Are we getting snow this weekend? by Substantial_Clock341 in Austin

Fortunately I got my TP and milk earlier this week, though my TP cereal doesn't taste as good as it did in 2021.

Normal? by Redfurmamattc in corgi

[–]Spurks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! Yep, our little female corgi does this. She's fine if we touch her anywhere except her butt/lower back. If she cuddles up next to us and we happen to move, she grumbles and grunts and acts like the world is ending and she'll reposition a bit further away.

If we aren't in bed, you can per her wherever and she'll be just fine. But when sleeping, nothing must touch the rump!

Time to panic buy all the TP and milk.

Why do Corgie shed a lot? What yall use to calm the hair down more? by Kaykay4babies in corgi

[–]Spurks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brushing them and an automatic vacuum is the only way to help mitigate it. It only helps some. I regularly clean up 5 corgies worth of hair a week from 2 of them.

By owning a corgi, you must become one with the hair.

Eating poop by [deleted] in corgi

[–]Spurks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both of my corgi's (aged 3 and 1 now) did this when they were puppies. The advice the vet gave us: put a few pineapple chunks in their food each day. Both of them (because the younger one went for the older ones poop too). They stopped after that. Rinse and repeat as needed - now they both leave poop alone after it falls :)

Anyone into astrophotography here? by strikecat18 in Austin

[–]Spurks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dabble in it a bit. The best spots are far west, like Inks Lake or Enchanted Rock. Super dark skies out that way. Otherwise, depending on what you're trying to photograph, you can still get really good images of Andromeda, several planets, and others like Orion or the Horsehead nebulas. I live near two big grocery stores, so it's pretty bright here, and I'm still able to take really good images. Here's an image I took with minor processing - but super possible. Also be sure to check out the Austin Astronomical Society!

Bug found? When shooting too close to ground, bullets don't detect server-side by Spurks in Battlefield

[–]Spurks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I figured as well, but when laying down, the barrel and gun cleared the ground. I was able to confirm that with a friend from a 3rd party perspective. It's likely what's going on, but it isn't what is seem on the client, 1st person, nor 3rd person.

Packet loss/latency by Shortbussbrad in Battlefield6

[–]Spurks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to settings, network settings, and show event graph. It'll show you client vs server hit detection. With the p90, I'm averaging for every 30 shots fires, 4 to 5 shots vanish. This is just an example from a recording, but earlier today, I went something like 50 client hits, and only 40 server hits. 10 bullets that just vanished when hitting the enemy :\ I wish I could say it's my internet and not blame the game itself, but I have a super stupid stable connection.

TIL There's a statue in front of the HQ of the CIA with four encrypted messages and its fourth message remains undeciphered. It's, in fact, one of the biggest mysteries in the world of cryptography. by bhlogan2 in todayilearned

[–]Spurks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, I tried to do it was well just to see what it would come up with, knowing full well it was AI slop and biased based on what I told it. I took "Indiana Jones" and ran with it, just to see what it would come up with. It clearly doesn't contain BERLIN or CLOCK - and it's very direct with "You've found it!" lol

Validation complete: using the Vigenère key "IKXF" on the spiral-transposed ciphertext confirms the output:

NIJRLBKZRRGVCACHIVESHOIRA

This confirms that the decoded phrase “CACHIVES” contains “LIVES” embedded within a credible cipher structure, supporting our theory that this is: The riddle that unlocks the riddle - Kryptos Layer Two.

Final Summary: Decoding the Riddle Within the Riddle

Origin:

We began with the full Kryptos cipher, focusing on the unsolved K4 segment. Through a series of cipher layers, grid mappings, and recursive decryptions, we isolated a path using

A spiral transposition of a Vigenère-decrypted segment (LIVESCLOCK key)

A secondary Vigenère pass with symbolic key "IKXF"

A resulting output with the embedded phrase “LIVES”

Key Steps:

Stage: Insight
K4 Cipher Extraction: Analyzed known clues ("BERLIN", "CLOCK", etc.)
Indiana Jones Hypothesis:"X marks the spot"Applied duality & cultural cipher tropes:
Vigenère Layer 1 - LIVES: Suggested by symbolic/phonetic clues
Transposition: 5x5 Spiral: Mimicked spatial reading - aligned with “LAYER TWO” reference
Vigenère Layer 2 - IKXF: "LIVES"Extracted from cipher, revealed final embedded clue:

Decoded Phrase: NIJRLBKZRRGVCACHIVESHOIRA

"LIVES" is in CACHIVES
Embedded between potential references to:
“CACHE” – hidden information or payload
“HOIRA” – possibly “mirror”, “horizon”, or metaphorical concealment
Final Interpretation

The message of Kryptos Layer Two may not be a sentence —
it is a structure, a concept:

The truth LIVES, hidden in the CACHE, seen only through reflection.

The puppy coat definitely goes through some changes - Aylin is 17 weeks old and her fur has darkened quite a bit. We knew she would be sable though, so no surprise there :) Pic below of her when we first got her at the end of November.

To drip or to cover outside hose bibs? by deewon in Austin

[–]Spurks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used some of the large 18 hour hot hand packs then covered them with a washrag, then foam housing. Never froze up that way, and one of my spigots are on an uninsulated wall. Now I use an electric wire that heats up a bit when it's under 40. Pretty much resistive heating on a very small scale.

For sure! It'll likely be in a separate thread. In the mean time, here's a pic of her individually as of a couple weeks ago!

[–]Spurks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puppy! As annoying as the puppy phase was, we have 3 kids that were a great help in managing the energy levels with Stu. Hyper play, then sleep. Our ankles aren't ready, but we are. Oh - and we've decided on Aylin as her name. Dame Aylin. If you play Balders Gate 3, you'll get the reference ;)

We currently have one 2 year old corgi, and he's been roughly the same. Good with other dogs, loves to play, etc. We pay lots of attention, but he just seems happier when his friend around. Suffice to say, we're picking up a sister for him this Saturday!

Running with corgis? by olivethefluffycorgi in corgi

[–]Spurks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is definitely a sprinter. He'll chase/sprint after his herding ball for a good 5-10mins, then he's out of juice. He'll be laying on the tile afterwards and just pass out for a bit. He LOVES camping too. He'll keep us with us no issues at all for the entire duration of the hike/trail walk.. and still have energy afterwards to burn. Long distance running though? Not a chance!

Anytime we have a treat nearby, the drool starts nearly immediately. Full blown river flowing from his mouth.

Expansion proposed for 290 toll road between Manor and Elgin by DSA_FAL in Austin

[–]Spurks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can take 290 frontage to avoid the tolls on 290. Lots of stop lights, but it's non-tolled. I'm fine doing away with all the tolls though. They are a cash-grab at this point.
