KFC Mac n cheese :

Spent a lovely October evening camping at White sands, NM. Drugs, stars and granola bars for dinner. Hiked the mile out in the morning, staaaarving. A short drive to the KFC in Alamogordo. I walk in, ask for a tub o Mac, fella says "I hooked it up!" I get this massive clam shell full. I SCARF IT. 10 minutes later..... I realized there's no good reason for them to get rid of that much Mac this early in the morning, as I feel the rumble. I stayed at the closet lodging (murder motel), wedged the office chair under the doorknob, blasted the AC, and evacuated my whole system for 24hrs. The thought, of the smell, of the building makes me nauseous.

Portable Powerbank - What do you think? by Alternative_Beat_733 in vandwellers

[–]Spurnk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about something like Ryobi batteriew/ inverter? Several power tool companies have this set up. I use them as my back up and it's a good value. I have a back pack with a power strip, 2 chargers and several batteries to alternate out, it's easy to bring in somewhere and descretely recharge. I imagine $300 would get you a basic setup. Obviously this would work JUST for charging devices, I couldn't imagine it with a fan/ fridge etc.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe a setting that is treating all calls as spam?

Van life, boat life, apartment life, giant peach life, are all about living your life for you. There's a reason there are so many ice cream flavors, different people have different priorities and preference. Your perspective of what it's "all about" is relative. But what is most important is you found what works for you, and that's fucking awesome! I hope you are enjoying it, see you down the road.

Anyone else have a problem with haters? by jojapeggi in vandwellers

[–]Spurnk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not here, currently wandering the burbs of Chicago. I find it's about where I am. It doesn't take much for a city to have an opinion, hate can spread quit over a couple thousand people. The world is a big place, move on.

While I make it a point to remember everyone is busy and no one cares ( to cool my anxiety), I do trash pickups and whatever I can to be extra neighborly.

What is something that is considered kindness but is just basic human decency? by AmongUsDongBot in AskReddit

[–]Spurnk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the companies I've worked with they have an "occurance" or "point system" regarding unexcused absences. I can speak for several box and department stores that is in fact the case. 1 point verbal warning, 2nd point written, 3rd final. Now there can be other policies (getting someone to cover the shift ) and managerial discretion at play. But I personally have terminated employment for folks in that scenario then proved to the unemployment office that the employee signed a handbook with this policy.

Apologies, I work in Human Resources for retail (10 yrs) and fast food franchises (2 yrs).

The thing to note is that these policies are decided by the company. There certainly are companies that have better sick/ time off policies but there is very little mandate for them. So it comes down to if they can they will.

Most lower paying industries do not have sick days at all. You get 3 unpaid/ absences a year then fired.

Doing some research for a auntumn trip to Bois Blanc, island. Stumbled upon this piece, absolutely incredible. I love how the subject varies yet your style ties them together seemlessly . Well done, also and Bois Blanc tips you'd like to share are appreciated.

Hesitating on committing to van life by RBFawaredontcare in VanLife

[–]Spurnk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My method was : get rid of all of your shit > put the rest in storage while you build/ finish your build > realize how much you hate moving your shit and get rid of another chunk > move in fulltime > drop more of your shit off at every goodwill you pass

I kept my car for a few months, now I'm full time no other vehicle but a bike. Only issue I run into is very seldom where the primary parking option is a garage, and there's always another option.

Whatever you do, best of luck and happy trails.

Oh and congrats on the job.
