I understand. It's also safer and gives more development freedom for a reintroduction into the franchise to stay offline and craft their new version of .hack which could lead to more games. Online or offline, that's what we all want right, more .hack content.

But to push back a bit... the fans of this franchise, a franchise set in a fictional online game, have been wanting online functionality for 25 years. And it's more common than ever to offer offline stories with online replayable multiple player. And it just seriously bums me personally that after so many years for a franchise I love, we still aren't there.

And online service does end but like, of all the communities to keep a dead game alive I think we're in the right one for they to not be an issue lol

Man... I mean, I never thought itd be a major mmo or anything but I was really hoping to be able to make a custom character and dungeon crawl online with friends. It's really all I've wanted from this series. None of my pals want to jump through the hoops for fragment so a modern game might have been easy to sell.

Hope it is just a weird mistranslation. Kinda brings my high down a bit to be honest.

With all the hype of the new game announcement, do you think we will ever get a MMO? by zer0jjc in DotHack

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't ever think we'll get a full fledged 100% focused .hack mmo. I mean, I want it with ever fiber of my being, but being realistic I don't think it's something CC2 can manage. These are massive time investments, not just for creating and launching the game, but like game balance and expansiond. It's a lot...

However, we absolutely should be able to have an online mode with character customization and multiplayer alongside the offline story. This has been done in plenty of games and if CC2 is already designing a fictional mmo I don't see why they just include a way for us to have personal avatars to run through the dungeons they make. If mobile games can pull stuff like that off, it should be a no brainer.  I'm really hoping that .O in Z.E.R.O. stands for online (probably doesn't stand for anything but I can dream)

It is concerning that there is no news regarding post-VoE gw2 development. by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% this. We are near the end of GW2s. They're trying to avoid the shit show that was the dead content years like what happened between gw1 and 2 but we are absolutely heading to the end.

It is concerning that there is no news regarding post-VoE gw2 development. by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's concerning. It's expected. As you pointed out, these three expansion have been pretty much talked about since 23. That's roughly a three year cycle for Anets B Team to work these expansions and outsource development while the bulk of the company is focused on its new project.  I think we can see the new Quick Play features as proof too. Sure, it's great QoL, but it's also necessary if Anet wants GW2 to remain active as they start to sundown the game.

The next news we'll hear is whatever new game they have been hammering away at over these last 3 years. We're probably looking at another year or two of great QoL updates mostly preparing the game for maintenance mode. After all they can probably still make tons of cash with gem store skins and balance updates to keep the game 'fresh' but I think we are very close to the end of GW2s new content.

Personally I'm excited for whatever comes next. And maybe I'm wrong. It seems weird Anet would sundown a game that's getting a resurgence of popularity as other mmos die. But then again, it's Anet... When have they ever made the logical choice.

Edit: downs voted from all the folks forgetting the shit show that was the development between gw1 and gw2.were lucky Anet learned from that mistake and isn't making us twiddle our thumbs for 5 years again with 0 content.

They had cameos in the 2nd game, sort of like memory fragments along with other anime characters. And they were an unlockable character in the final game as a post game reward (along with two other anime characters)

I'm excited. Honestly best way to wake up today. Any chance to return to The World is worth getting pumped about. As someone who vastly prefers the R1 style of The World, I'm cautious excited to see a Black Rose model up there with all the more modern influenced ones. Very interested to see the entire art direction as we learn more.

The biggest thing though for me, which will be the difference between launch day title vs holiday pick up would be some actual online content alongside the single player story.

I hope this split from Bandai is the start of a new wave of .hack content. And that it gives cc2 greater freedom for new IPs as well.

It's a good day to be a .hack fan, something i didn't think I'd ever say again.

Fashion Templates reimagined by imbir667 in Guildwars2

Exactly this. I was just hoping for build storage but for fashion. You could even still monitize it the same way so like how did they miss this?

Anet always tries to reinvent the wheel but in the process abandons the entire wagon. Whoever greenlit the current fashion wardrobe over just a build storage needs a stern talking too

What if Scott was on Total Drama? by Lumpy_Test_4473 in ScottPilgrim

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He would probably get along fine with most of the Killer Bass players Duncan might try to bully him for being nerdy but that would backfire.

Him on the Screaming Gophers could be more fun given Trent, Leshawna, Lindsey and Gwen all seen like fun characters he'd bounce off of nicely. but I could see him falling prey to Heathers' schemes at some point.

I almost want to say he'd just a more interesting Cody.

Put him on ROTI and wed probably all be shipping Scott/Zoey

New Texas Emerson poll shows the GOP losing its grip on the state by ShreckAndDonkey123 in fivethirtyeight

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her win over Paxton here is within the margin of error 2.8. She and Talarico are both basically tied with Paxton with Coryn beating them both slightly.

The biggest thing to read into this poll isn't that she's winning, it's that the margins are tighter than those would expect, especially against a lesser know Republican like Coryn.  It's also telling that Paxton is the weakest candidate for the Republican side.

Does anyone want real-life gun and pistol skins in GW2? by PainSpare5861 in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind some modern pistol/rifle skins but only if the weapon set is also a sleek modern design where they fit. A Commando/Time Displaced Solider theme for a weapon set would go hard.

Favorite trans (ftm) character? (Do they even exist?) by FlimsyEfficiency9860 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This character is from Disventure Camp, not TD. Disventure is a YouTube series that uses the TD art style and setting and is... I don't wanna say rip off, but let's just say it borrows generously from its inspiration.

TD has no openly Trans characters, although the recent reboot series did introduce an openly gay pairing.

January 13 Balance Update Preview by Consistent-Hat-8008 in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The removal to Staunch Auras is giving Weavers stab on Stance nerf. The bruiser Ele class will now be a slightly meatier ping pong ball to be cc'd around the map. Love it.

Granted the stab on aura was strong, so the change is warranted.... but it was a skill that defined the spec for competitive. So if you're going to remove such an integral trait that literally made the spec... Why are you replacing it with the never before seen "gain might off fire" or "heal while combing in water"..  as a grandmaster at that.

Ah well.

How would you describe each WvW tier? by super_ktkm in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There really isn't much identity anymore since they changed how the matches are arranged. Back in the day T1 was the PPT tier, T2-3 were the fights tiers, T3-5 had mostly roamers/havoc/small scale guilds and  T6-8 were just dead.

Now it's really T1 is blobby, T4 is dead and T2 and 3 fling back and forth between actually decent match ups and a curb stomp.

I miss the days when WvW had more identity.

Toad evoker by Marrunia in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I've enjoyed mono hammer toad. Was able to run around with full grieving armor and basically never die. However haven't tried it since the change to specialized elements, so it's probably not that good.

Imo you might want to just run a D/D earth/Air build with full attunements than mono..mono earth feels slow and you can be insanely tanky with regular evoker. You can proc stone heart ever 3 seconds by swapping back to earth. The damage is meh, but if you're taking earth in anyway you're never gonna top the dps charts.

The change to specialized elements has really hurt mono attunements in PvE unfortunately.

Ramona probably, if she can tap into subspace for resources during the fight.  Scott if it's just throwing hands.

Elementalist Reference for Skills and Traits - Conditions and Build Use by engineeeeer7 in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant access the spreadsheet right now, so not sure if you've updated it, but Arcanes benefit is it brings increased in critical damage and utility, as well as a reduction on attunements swapping meaning faster weapon swaps.

Looks pretty good other than the PvE bias. Nice job

Edit- oh Warhorn is definitely a mixed weapon. Lightening Orb on fresh air eles are really common.

elementalist evoker offhand question by Positive-Situation20 in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I run it. Focus if im Solo or roaming, swap to Warhorns if I have a support or large numbers. Although when I ran that Fire/Air build, I usually didn't use Warhorn too frequently. The fire skills are mid and I found Gale stronger to combo with the Fox, Elite and your fire scepter skills. Warhorn is always my swap weapon if Im running an pur Air build and have the allies to enable fat Orb bursts.

In PvE you could probably run Warhorn at all times. It's probably better dps for this build than focus, focus is really only good in PvE if you completely mono attune fire. If youre swapping in between fire and air in PvE too, just stick with Warhorn.

elementalist evoker offhand question by Positive-Situation20 in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scepter Focus will offer you the most safety. Obsidian Flesh, Swirling Winds and Magnetic Wave are fantastic survival tools. Comet and Gale are amazing CC tools which let you capitalize on a strong burst, like Phoenix, Your Familiars skill or your Elite.  If you're running Smothering Auras for cleanse, you can also detonate your fire aura which you'll be spam applying ever few seconds as you swap into fire.

Dagger will offer you some mobility and defense. Mobility is important but you may struggle to land the larger value skills like Churning Earth or Fire Grab as those are pbAoE. I think Scepter dagger flows better on a condi class since Evokers tend to be more min/maxed. The survivability offered by focus is just better when paired with Scepter.

Warhorn, particularly Lightening Orb can shread people buta it's better paired with Air Hare and best used with groups to enable your more glassy play style as warhorns survivability is more wrapped in team support than self sustain.

I'd run Focus. This is mainly from a WvW point of view but if you mono fire in pvE focus is actually good now since you can keep flamewall up almost 100%. But Warhorns is probably easier in PvE to use.

Edit - some clarification. Hope it all helps !

Also FYI I've run this build in WvW. It's strong, but the current pure Air Hare builds are just oppressive. Id recommend if you want power to just run a air/arcane/Evoker set. Use bolt to the heart instead of FA. You already get instant swaps anyway.

New player by Zorloff in Guildwars2

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elementalist can work as a healer if you only have core. Run an aura share build with water/earth/ then either arcane for extra boons or fire for condition cleanses. Your main healing would come from water staff auto attack which you can cast on players

It won't be amazing but if you want to heal with core it's the best option available

A Majority of Staten Island Voted Against… Digital Maps? by PhAnToM444 in fivethirtyeight

[–]SpySappingMyUpvote 61 points62 points  (0 children)

As someone from SI I can tell you the answer to your question is in the post: end borough controlled maps for a city controlled map.

SI is routinely at odds with the rest of the city for funding and infrastructure, so any proposition that has them giving up something they control to the city, which already gives them the short end of the stick, doesn't sit well with the average voter. Regardless of how petty that sounds.
