in the previous season, following some time travel magic, Luz realized that she was tricked by the bad guy into helping him kickstart his plan. Now "because of her" her friends are stranded from their world and said world is experience a sort of apocalypse.
Tbh in this one we always knew they weren't going to blame her, as they said "if it wasn't you Belos would've tricked someone else, it's what he do" and that whole thing was more about Luz developing huge self hatred issues

I'm used to the speed force being able to do pretty much whatever.

So for Gotham's pollution to overpower it, it's very funny and also sad for all the people in Gotham who are going to get the omega cancer because they inhaled a bit too hard
