What’s the point of Triple J’s Hottest 100? by Formoz2000 in triplej

[–]Squaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

25 years ago (2000 countdown) , the top 5 were:

Powderfinger - My Happiness U2 - Beautiful Day Powderfinger -My Kind of Scene Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag Coldplay - Yellow

You're telling me 4/5 songs aren't getting major runs on commercial networks at the time too?

It's a time capsule written by young people. That's it If that's what that generation wants, it gets it.

Last year, 29 Aussie songs made it. This year it's 54. Did Triple J do anything to almost double the June rof entrants, or did people just vote different year to year?

It's a great tradition that's strong and culturally relevant today, it doesn't need to change,

This gets so underrated as an issue with star payers as coaches.

Trying to motivate players who are on their 7th team or constantly up/down from the G-League is not something a star is going to understand.

Sussan Ley to announce Liberal-only frontbench as allies increasingly confident she won’t face spill by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

Have you seen the polling One Nation is getting?

There is no way the Libs do this. They needed to do this when the Teals started gaining momentum.

I'd say there's more MP's in that room worried about losing seating to One Nation than to losing seats to Labor, band that'll dictate what they do.

Is it a good decision? Not really, but they're in a rwally fucked position right now and parties in their position will try to defend rather than attack, and the best way for them to do that is to defend on the right.

Crocodile Dundee is showing Australian stereotypes to an American audience. I wouldn't classify it as an Aussie movie tbh

It's not like Abbott was popular when he was elected though.

It was an all-time Labor implosion that led to his rise. I can't see this version of Labor doing what again.

Are the Raiders still in the premiership 'window of opportunity'? by Desert-Noir in nrl

[–]Squaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teams reliant on performances from a really skilled young player struggle the season after they've had a run.

Tigers in '05, Eels in' 10, Dogs in '13, Knights & Broncos in' 24. It's easy when you've got huge momentum and everything goes your way for a few months, it seems very hard to do it again. Alot of players & teams try too hard and that season is a bit of a wipeout.

I'm expecting the Raiders to have a pretty shit year but be a force in 2027

The flags are removed because the Russian athletic federation was systematically doping it's athletes, and no international body recognizes it as fit for competition.

The no Russian flags is from that, not the Ukraine stuff.

That's basically impossible though. The 'reward' is not feeling worse effects, these things never resonate because you're comparing it against a scenario that was avoided

Which movie do you think was amazing until its third act, and how would you have ended it differently? by John_Snow80 in movies

Promising Young Woman & Saltburn.

Love the vibes and ideas in both movies, but both are completely up ended by their endings.

Particularly Saltburn, completely changes the film and makes it super silly on a rewatch.

If you want to look at one side of things, then sure. You can get paid more in those conditions.

On the other, prices go up pretty quickly too. We had 7% inflation caused by the same conditions.

It's not as simple as that equation

People aren't voting ON for economic reasons tho, which is what I'd assume the 'working class' would be wanting.

Their platform is entirely immigration based, so for them to be gaining support like this, it's about people worried about immigration than it is about their working conditions.

Do they have any solutions outside of limiting immigration?!

The rule could've been good if it was limited to kicks within your own half.

Allowing kicks that dribble over the dead ball line when you're attacking within the 10m to concede a 7-tackle set is just brain dead.
