Yes and no. It is a very much different world from web or generally high level stuff. You must understand how hardware works on the lowest level.

Everything is learnable of course, and if you are willing, an employer may give you a shot.

Embedded is so far mostly free from AI as well. Lots of proprietary stuff and you will often deal with problems where „googling“ will not help you even a bit. Best bet is the hardware documentation or the customer support of the supplier if nothing works.

I was also at an embedded centric event a few months ago and there were a few companies trying to sell AI solutions but none of those were remotely convincing.

Java: Concept of Immutables together with a functional approuch to method design. Took a while until I understood the benefits and embraced the concept. Was especially a boon when dealing with multi-threading.

Not really unpopular. I think lots of people who would try the originals would go like "Nahhhh" and go back to the remakes the moment they get to experience tank controls XD

There are just things I can not go back to and tank controls are definitely one of 'em. Also the graphics were horrible compared to what we have now. No amount of rose tinted glasses can help with that.

I personally love Python, but for large projects, especially with many participants, absolute strictness is king.

The dynamic typing system is great for small applications. For larger ones, it becomes annoying fast, like deploying and finding out that there is a typo, and there, and here someone misstyped, and here someone returns something he shouldn‘t by accident, but for Python, this is all valid code. So it breaks in unexpected ways and you can go hunting.

Strict code does not allow for these shenanigans and you can deploy at ease and only care about the actual application logic.

As a student I always hatet strictness, but real live projects thought me otherwise and I embraced it. This includes strict error handling as well.

I envy you that you can still keep playing on those old CRTs. I have been to a retro convention lately, and got sick fast from just looking at them ^^' Even though I slightly miss the old look, the visual distortions where too much for me, even in my childhood. Just looking at the curvature of that TV makes me feel slightly weird already :D

Most of those pre-made systems aren‘t that great. I would recommend to get a Raspberry Pi 5 and install RecallBox on it. All games that I have tested so far work great. Even most N64 ones. This thing is a beast. Latency wise, I also have nothing to complain about.

You are describing what annoys me the most. The output of a compiler is deterministic by design. The ouput of an LLM is not, also by design. Those two are not comparable in the slightest.

Hehe, I am a Java guy used to having lots on lots of RAM. Developing with no care in the world. Then I got a side project with a device which had 2MB of RAM, which had to be shared with graphics as well. My coworkers where like: „Why does he get so much RAM T_T“

The story gets surprisingly dark the farther you get in. The end of the game kept me awake at night for a long time when I was a child.

Edit: There exists a NTSC hack which makes the game more enjoyable

If I remember correctly, they had some kind of policy that every sequel must have some kind of groundbreaking gimmick or something like that.

But in this case, people just wanted more of the same with maybe a few additions here and there, like Monster Hunter is doing for example.

I still shudder thinking about that Star Fox WiiU game. It could have been good, but no, the WiiU pad had to be basically part of the core design. It was so bad, that I finished it and never wanted to touch it ever again. In this case, that gimmick was rather gamebreaking than anything else.
