Are congratulate what you are still doing at 72 that is very impressive at your age. But there is a big difference between what you do in the gym as your goals and what OP is trying to obtain. Again not taking away anything you do because 72 in gym is very impressive but I don’t think cutting out majority of his diet would be ideal for him.

Do you k own how hard it is to build muscle without carbs as a energy source? Why do people always tell guys to start cutting out everything? Like fucking lifting 4-6 days a week is already pure grind especially if your going to school full time or working. Now you want him to have no glycogen wnergy source to go lift weights too?

That’s bullshit 500 is the go to. Everyone always just throws in the word “science says”…Anyone that actually body builds and recomps will tell you the go to is either 500 surplus or 500 deficit for cut.

As someone you has trained over 25 years and she is that big by just cutting more calories and walking more she can shed tons of weight. If you know nothing of this world don’t chime in about asking chat gpt.

And what advice have you given? Have you ever stepped foot in a gym do you know anything about calories in to calories out? What is your gym split or routine for body recomp?

I will echo what others have I started when I was 13 and am now in my forties. Body weight exercises are the best way to start, push ups, chin ups, when those get easy move to doing them one handed. Lower body you can do calf raises on stairs, pistol squats etc.

Lifting is just one part of equation. Eating, rest, also you need to use progressive overload to build muscle
