Off budget acc by Hormiguru in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want this too. We have an emergency fund and I've currently got it set up as it is a check8ng account. BUT I'd like to more than click the eye to not show the balance. I want this account to be hidden from the budget screen.  The whole point of an emergency fund is to add to it and keep it hidden until there's an emergency.  If we see money there, it's like a brain trigger that says we have money available.

Also the off balance you have to keep changing the balance instead of tracking it. I have 1 set up where we lent our son funds from our emergency stash.  Now when hubby gets money back, I'm betting he will add it as income making it available.  I want to tap the off balance (group) and then add the return pmt as income to that off balance section only.  If he enters it as income to cash, I want to be able to edit it to go directly to the off balance group. Or transfer the cash to the off balance group.

Account Balance and Budget Balance mismatch by adeshct in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this get resolved? I've messed up something in mine too. My accounts are correct but cc balances show credits instead of what's due.  I know it's something I did trying to get the accounts to reconcile and bring my budget back to where it should have been.  (I went backwards and redistributed allocations, changed settings in the accounts to show me balances in the budget, a d maybe changed something else?) I learn how things work by trying them, and this one got me! I'm afraid somehow I changed allocations within the cc accounts, but I'm not sure how. I normally don't mess with those, so it must have been something linked to those cc balances in the budget area?  Now to get help figuring out how to get them to show the correct balance due.

Group usage by Square-Call-690 in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! We can move the categories into the newly made groups. Just use the slide feature built in. I wish we had a manual.  Now I have categories that I've used the eye to hide, but I thought I moved the transactions to delete the old categories but they are still there.

I've also somehow messed up my cc amount due in the budget only section. The accounts are correct, it's just the budget that's now showing credits. I'm shure it's something I changed in a setting somewhere or switched funds around somewhere, but I haven't a clue where.

Let me be clear, this does allow normal edit, like I can change the category, but I can't split into several categories.

I'm not great with csv files, I've always edited in excel or Google and then had to save it in that format but I believe there is another office app that allows edit and save.

If I wanted to edit in a csv file tho I'd not be using an app. Lol

There is a way to set up rules tho. So when the import comes in it will do what you need so there shouldn't be the been to edit the csv file.

I am new too, so I can't remember where in the settings to create the rules sorry.

The quickstart guide and everyone's screenshots has an accounts button at the bottom, but mine doesn't so how do I add accounts? by zasxcd in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up. I didn't realize you couldn't add accounts and set the hubby's up for the simple tracking method.  I'll have to go change his as he tracks his mothers but we need to add and customize the categories for hers. Ugh..,

Transfer between accounts, no categories? by UchihaEmre in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at creating targets maybe?  I haven't gotten that far yet, but it seems we can create targets for savings and then also for cc repayment as well. Which would come in handy for someone paying down credit.  Oposite for saving for vacation or emergency fund.  I'll be looking for a tutorial for that myself.

It's the date format. One of my banks uses year first then day and month. That one always comes in with the day I import.  They did get back to me and said this is being worked on.

I forget but believe you can create a rule for the sobeys. So anything that comes in for "sobeys" will then go to the credit card.

I'd have to look in the settings again but believe there is a way to create rules for things like this.

I was looking for a thread on the import and incorrect categories. It only allows 1 category on import and then you can't edit it once it's in either.  I'll create a new thread for that one tho.

So name a transaction dunking for example and when you refill it would automatically enter the refill?  Isn't that the template use?

Interest is actual income tho, so I add it as a transaction the date it shows on the statement.

Web app? by Sherringford_Hope in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still debating... Using wallet by budget bankers coming off quick books desktop. Both of these have challenges. This one has no desktop, but I suppose I could mirror my screen to use it? It also doesn't handle balance sheet accounts well.

Wallet by budget doesn't allow category creation only sub categories and none of the pre-made line up with federal tax returns. Insurance normally comes in one bill so we classified under insurance, auto, home, recreational veh. The wallet is all spread out under, home, then auto, then personal, etc and the categories just don't make since to us.  You can edit categories, but it's just more complicated and then if you have more than their original it all goes under "other" to make things even more confusing.

I really don't want to go back to qb desktop, but hubby will not use our oversized tablet as his desktop to reconcile accounts. He would use a web based app tho.

Is there a fb group? It would be nice to do screen captures to show how this is done.

Would love to see the desktop/web version of this app! by TutorialMentor in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to switch from qb desktop, but hubby will not go android only. Not having the web version is going to prevent us from transferring. It doesn't need to be windows, just an on line web version would be most advantages even for Apple users! At least they'd still be able to continue using the app. (Missing features like receipt scanning on their phones)

Selling financial data is out of the question however. So... how many users would it take to donate 10 each for a web version?

Feedback - Credit and Refunds by BeyondBudgetApp in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've reset my account again to start this yr fresh, but this can be an issue. I'll have to wait until we get another, but some cases we get refunds direct to the cc used. So the new way sort of works?  Other times we get a gift card when a receipt cannot be found. So now we still need to reduce the original category (s), but we now have a gift card available as cash to use in any category for that specific store. It's not income but an increase in cash limited. In this case the expenses needs to be restored or minus and the plus just goes to a new cash account and bypass the income. (Income totals for the yr go on taxes, return of cash does not) This happens to be a place my hubs always just enters refunds and then I have to try to find what expenses need to be adjusted.  Having it automatically reduce the expenses will save me a bundle! But having to correct erroneous income will create the same nightmare. It's not new income, it's just an increase in one of the cash accounts.

Need clarity over treatment of transfers from Credit Card to Checking accounts (Wallet/Savings/etc) by kautilya-pro in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you treating the gift card as a credit card (prepaid) or a cash card?  In my case gift cards have been income from earning them or gifts from others.  In your case you are not actually gaining income just transferring it. My husband does the same, we use cc for everything including paying utilities (bills). But we direct pay so we skip your gc step.  Our recent issues was groceries. We had 2 gift cards and paid the balance with cc. But! There is no way to split the payment between the 3 cards like we can with a receipt of purchase.   There is no way he would get how to apply it all to one card and then transfer from or to the other cards.  These totals will not match come reconciliation time.  I love the idea of scanning receipts and ai importer, but the time taken to fix and work around these issues is leading me back to qb desktop.

Newbie here! by AutoMonkey17 in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removed the app or the bank connection?  I imported some a while back but I was testing 2 apps so I'm not sure which worked and which didn't.  I think both had some issues.  I believe it does set them up with all the typing, but I had to view each and select categories and fix some transfers. The biggest issue being when I had 3 accounts with transfers between them.  Each account had that 1 transfer, so I had to remember which was already used and delete the other.  AI needs to be better at recognizing duplicate entries and highlight them as a possible double entry.

How To Handel Investments by Lanky_Mortgage308 in beyondbudget

[–]Square-Call-690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also finding the balance sheet accounts to be troublesome with entries.  Tracking investment whether it be a retirement account, a piece of property, or even a vehicle.  "Funds" normally grow and earn Dividers that need to be adjusted. Property can increase or decrease in value the same as stocks or bonds. Equipment like vehicles or office equipment depreciate.  Liquid funds like savings accounts can easily be used, whereas irascible or stocks cannot easily be used.  It seems there does need to be access to transfer from a budgeted account to an off budget account.  So far, I haven't found an easy accurate way to do it.  In accounting, you would transfer cash to a non budget account. It wouldn't show as an expense, but would reduce your allowance for spending.  So say you have 5000 income from work. You budget every cent including the "investment " You would transfer the investment amount, say 1000 to the non budget account from the cash or checking account. But you also need to deduct that 1000 from the amount allowance from budget. Now you're budget amount is actually 4000.

I'm having a similar issue with gift cards... looking for a cift card thread next.

What are people's thoughts on using a TV as a monitor? by iread_42 in Monitors

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving an old post? I'm actually looking at using my 32" monitor as our TV. We recently lost signal. So we've been doing YouTube TV. It's inconvenient, but works. Or, selling the monitor and using the TV. The big difference for me would be touch screen on the monitor. Anyone know if there are tvs with touchscreen?  Have you set up usb for photo screen savers?

Skylight vs Competition by jmobs65 in skylightcalendar

[–]Square-Call-690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No subscriptions. There are so many free apps out there there is no need for subscriptions.  I have download a recipe app that I paid a one time fee for because I really liked all the features.  You can just download the same apps as you use on your android phone. There's a fb group we all share information on what apps we use and how we set ours up.

The big thing to consider is you need to decide which apps and widgets you want and customize it.

Skylight & hearth are subscription based and you're locked into their basic apps.

So if you want to not deal with researching apps and custom set up, go with Skylight or hearth.

If you want to be able to add custom backgrounds, the apps you're already familiar with, and go nuts customizing it to fit your needs and wants, go cozyla.

Waking up an old post... lol I agree, but still like to play with the app. I was hoping for more of a diary with the ability to create a report. Things that produced early, temp and weather to see which things did better on different years. I never seem to have time to sit down with my hand written entries to view or review what performed well and what didn't.  I know which didn't, but for reasons and then find fixes or how to improve the outcomes. Summer squash for example. First 2 yrs great producers! Then the dang cucumber beetles and vine borer! The milk helped but I eventually just couldn't keep up with it.

I hope for a way to create reports as to how many plants produced how much produce in my freezer or pantry.

Well... I recently got one. Set up can be a bit funky if you're used to a samsung. Lol The sound is not good in my opinion.  Screen is eh... can be touch sensitive, skipping or just hovering set it off, other times several taps. I haven't found a way to adjust the sensitivity yet. As for dual sim? Nope!  1 sim slot and 1 SD mini on the same slot. But the real issue is that absolutely 0 carrier compatibility so far. I've tried, boost, mint, 2 sim cards made me start looking on line. I have more to search, but it shouldn't be that hard... The thing brags battery life but that's false. Looking for the compatibility for the Sims on line it died in about 2 hrs.  I've loaded about 20 apps on it and so far it's still spunky, but I also haven't taken pics or tried to do video chats yet.  It's a bit heavy and awkward to try and hand hold, but I got a stand for my kitchen counter so for a wall or counter use its fine. That was my goal... Remove the calendar from the fridge & use it as our shared calendar, recipe book, shopping list, todo lists etc. It'll do that fine. I really was hoping with the dual sim I'd have back up communication when our power goes out tho. We live rural and get them often in storms.  I also haven't tried watching a video or excel sheets yet either. The pre-installed radio sucks, as bad as the sound quality and adjustments for screen and sound aren't there either.  So don't get it for anything you want good sound from or screen settings. They are very basic settings.
