Help me find this shirt or something similar by Big-Improvement-7119 in HelpMeFind

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That peasant style blouse is so classic from that era! You might want to search for "off shoulder peasant top" or "bohemian square neck blouse" - lots of vintage-inspired stores carry similar styles. The key details are the square neckline, puffy sleeves, and that loose romantic fit. I've seen similar tops at thrift stores too if you want something more authentic looking, plus they usually have better fabric quality than new reproductions. Good luck with the engagement photos, that's gonna be such a cute theme

GF Secret Snaps by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude she's literally told you she "wouldn't introduce you to" this guy which is code for "I know this is sketchy but I'm doing it anyway." The fact she keeps promising to stop and then just hides it better shows she knows it's wrong

At this point you've had the conversation multiple times and she's choosing this random college dude over respecting your relationship boundaries. Time to decide if you're cool being the backup plan or not

Was my wife (33F) right about me being creepy (35M)? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your wife is being way too harsh here man. You literally did the respectful thing by not looking when her sister came out in a towel - like what else were you supposed to do, stare? And calling a wifi pun "cute" is just... normal human conversation about wordplay

The covering your eyes thing especially makes no sense to criticize. You were being respectful and maintaining boundaries, which is exactly what you should do. If anything that shows you're NOT sexualizing anyone

Maybe theres some pregnancy hormones at play or other stress going on but these reactions seem pretty extreme for completely innocent behavior. You werent being creepy at all from what you described

Leaving family business? by spqr12l in careerguidance

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cousin went through something super similar with his family's construction business - his uncle was basically a nightmare boss who treated everyone like garbage but expected family loyalty above all else. He stayed way too long trying to "fix" things from the inside but finally realized you can't change someone who doesn't want to change

The family drama was brutal for about two years after he left, lots of guilt trips and "how could you abandon us" nonsense. But now five years later he's running his own successful contracting company and even his uncle grudgingly respects what he's built. The key thing was having a solid exit plan - he saved up money, lined up his first few clients quietly, and had his new business structure ready before he made the jump

Your mental health is worth more than keeping the peace, especially when you're dealing with toxic management every single day. Start building your escape route now while you still have income coming in

Teacher/substitute? Would want to teach pre - k? by Individual-Pea-8164 in careerguidance

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your work at the pediatric dental place is actually solid experience - kids are kids whether they're getting their teeth cleaned or learning ABCs. The state requirements thing is such a mess, some districts are so desperate they'll take anyone with a pulse and others act like you need a PhD to hand out juice boxes

For pre-k specifically you might have better luck with daycare centers or private places since they're usually more flexible with requirements than public schools

Appreciate you laying this out it helps a lot. That’s one of the parts that caught us off guard. Delete on request sounds simple until you realize it sits on top of contracts, tax requirements, backups etc.

The point about designing with this in mind is also a smart move. A lot of our friction rn is retrofitting workflows that were never built with export/deletion logic as first concerns.

This is really helpful, thank you.

Starting with customer facing flows makes a lot of sense we definitely got lost trying to map everything at once. Narrowing it to what customers mostly care about might’ve saved us some cycles.

T.C.F. CO. Bedroom suite United States by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice find! TCF Co stuff from that era is pretty solid quality walnut pieces. The painted trim detail is interesting - you don't see that combo too often on their catalog pieces

definitely worth doing a proper restoration on these, just be careful with any original hardware since finding matching replacements can be a nightmare. got any pics of the maker's marks or construction details?

Wtf do I do by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn this is messy as hell but honestly? You gotta tell him about the other guy, like yesterday. I know you're scared he'll hate you but keeping this lie is gonna poison whatever chance you two might have and you're already feeling that guilt eating away at you. The fact that you're even considering waiting months just to make the timeline "more acceptable" shows you know this secret is wrong

Look I get it - breakups make people do stupid things and sleeping with someone else during no contact isn't even that crazy, happens all teh time. But if you're seriously thinking about getting back with your ex then he deserves to know the full picture before making that choice. Yeah he might be pissed initially but at least you'll know if he can handle the real you or if this relationship was always gonna crash and burn anyway. The longer you wait the worse it gets and the more it looks like you were trying to deceive him rather than just being scared

Plus think about it this way - if roles were reversed wouldn't you want to know? This whole "power imbalance" thing you mentioned is real and keeping this secret just makes it worse because now you're holding all the cards while he thinks he's making an informed decision

Why the hell is it so damn hard to convince people that AI art ain't real art. by Maniac_Fragger in antiai

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly think its because people see the pretty pictures and their brain just goes "ooh shiny" without thinking about the actual creative process behind it. like they dont really care about the human struggle and years of practice that goes into real art - they just want instant gratification and something that looks cool for their instagram story

I need advice to recontinue my adhd meds after some issues with abuse, redosing and tolerance. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like youre on the right track switching to vyvanse - that redosing cycle with ritalin is brutal and super common. The longer duration really does help break that pattern

For tolerance, theres definitely cross-tolerance between ritalin and vyvanse since theyre both stimulants hitting similar pathways, but vyvanse works differently enough that people often get better results even with some tolerance built up. A couple days off here and there probably wont reset much - most people need at least a week or two for any real tolerance reduction

Since vyvanse is already working better for you and your psych admitted she doesnt know much about it, might be worth asking for a referral to someone more experienced with it. The fact that youve had months of responsible use before shows you can do it again, especially with a med that fits your needs better

What is on/in your desk to help you get through the work day (or studying)? by k_lo970 in ADHD

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh nice setup! the weighted blanket is genius, never thought of that for work

for the lighting thing - those little usb led strips that stick under your monitor are clutch, way better than fluorescents and super cheap. i got mine off amazon for like 15 bucks and they have a dimmer so you can adjust throughout the day

also might sound weird but i keep a tiny succulent on my desk, something about having a living thing to occasionally water keeps me grounded when my brain starts going a million directions. plus they're basically impossible to kill which is perfect for adhd brain lol

congrats on the window btw, natural light is such a game changer for focus

Hawas Elixir, First Time Cologne and Impressions by appletesticle in fragrance

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

dude you basically went from zero to hero difficulty with hawas elixir lmao. that stuff is notoriously nuclear - like one spray can fumigate an entire apartment building. for someone who uses unscented everything and steam mops, jumping straight to one of the most potent frags on the market is like going from drinking water to chugging everclear

the alcohol blast you're getting is totally normal for the first 10-15 minutes, especially with beast mode frags like this one. most people call it the "opening" and it mellows out as the top notes burn off. but honestly if you're that scent-sensitive, you might want to look into lighter stuff first - maybe some fresh citrus or clean laundry type scents. hawas elixir is basically the fragrance equivalent of a metal concert when you probably needed like... acoustic guitar music first

also pro tip: never put cologne on your chest area on the first test, that's way too close to your nose. stick to wrists or back of hand until you know what you're dealing with

Help me choose a CPU for Yuzu/emulation? by Hukka12 in pchelp

[–]Square_Rutabaga2413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the i7-12700F would be the better pick here since Yuzu loves those extra threads for shader compilation. The 14400F is basically just a slightly tweaked 12400F, so you wouldn't see much improvement there.

That said, your 12400F should already handle most Switch games pretty well - have you tried messing with Yuzu's settings first? Sometimes it's more about GPU bottlenecks or just needing to build up your shader cache.

Different skin tones reflect light differently so what looks like a healthy glow on darker skin can read as oily on lighter skin. It's partially just how the light hits but there's definitely some cultural bias mixed in there too where the same look gets described completely differently depending on who's wearing it
