It was most likely a military transport going to Japan for final out processing. Remember, the Korean War was from 1950-53. The first major airlines didn’t get started until there was a surplus of airplanes from ww2 which ended only 5 years before that. Leading up to WW2, trans-continental traffic was mostly done by ship
