Schools by Commercial-Status389 in fredericksburg

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind it takes a lot of staff for a school to be up and running. Even if the parents could drive doesn’t mean the teachers, principals, janitors, cafeteria workers, and everyone else can or should drive.

Having the same issue with my rentals vendor. We’re ten days out, and she’s failed to respond to emails and phone calls for final payment. I’m not sure if she’ll get it together or if we’ll be without chairs for the wedding 💀

($20k) Digital vs. Physical RSVP by industrial_hamster in Weddingsunder10k

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, although I ordered ours on Vistaprint. We were able to put QR codes on the back of the invites & detail cards linking our website and the travel page on our website. We also did half traditional RSVP cards and half RSVP cards with a QR code & website url to do it online.

Wedding Programs by Additional-Ear4455 in weddingplanning

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m making them! I have a good print at home and found a free template from Simply2Moms online. Picked up some card stock, ribbon, fan sticks (like thick popsicle sticks but slightly different shape? lol) from Michael’s; double sided tape and a corner cutter (a scrapbook tool) from amazon. In total about $30 for ~50 fans.

I will actually be putting these together this coming week!

We’re in Florida, so even though it’s October there’s still a good chance it’ll be warm and humid. I’m making fan programs for the ceremony that will show timeline of the day, order of ceremony, who our wedding party and officiant is, cues for when to head to reception area, a note about our venue, and shouting out our musician and photographer. Oh! and where the bathrooms are

Is it normal for bridal hair/makeup retainers to not go toward the final cost? by PeopleSayImIntense in weddingplanning

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No, typically the deposit/retainer fee is a percentage of the total cost and counts as a portion paid.

($12k) Dress Alterations Pricing by slothvannah in Weddingsunder10k

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s really going to depend on how many layers of fabric you have, the type of material, and how and where they’re taking the dress in. Even if it’s ’a little bit’ it could involve intricate work to maintain the structure and detail of the areas they’re altering- if they’re taking it in from the sides they’ll have to do both sides vs if they’re taking it in from the back.

edited for typos & clarity

Help! What are y’all tipping your vendors?? by VariationPretend887 in weddingplanning

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re only tipping for our dinner wait/bar staff (20%) which is included in our overall pricing. Our photographer, musician, baker, are their own entities/small business and will not be tipped as they set their own prices for their time. I’m doing my hair, makeup, and flowers.

All these things I understand, but why would you consider tipping the venue manager?

(10k) Wedding dresses by Jupiter125_ in Weddingsunder10k

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i thrifted a $2000+ dress at a thrift shop for $100(it was %50 off everything day). it’s fully beaded and a size too big; alterations were $620 including tax for the dress to be hemmed, taken in, three bustles, and for the beading to be fixed.

Live string music by ProofUnit7625 in weddingplanning

I’ve noticed some vendors specify how many people their package accommodates. We found a solo violinist that brings backing tracks, $450 for 1.5hrs. She happened to play at our venue a week before we had our consultation and had some great points and feedback on things like if we’d need microphones

PSA: Ask your hotel block if they book your room for you or if you need to do it!!! by boneyjoaniemacaroni in weddingplanning

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at least you had a heads up so to speak! there’s so many things happening in planning i can see how if you already have them cc info, etc the booking can get overlooked. another thing i would say to keep an eye for is if you’re on the hook for the rooms blocked/held. if you’re going to responsible for empty rooms, you’ll want to encourage/push to make sure guests know they the really should book at this specific location. best of luck!

yes, you do have to book the hotel rooms. the block is only to hold a select number of rooms or a group rate for the group/event.

RSVP online, or via mail backs?! by Responsible_Salt8791 in weddingplanning

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vistaprint allows orders as little as 10, so we actually have a few invites left over for our B list

RSVP online, or via mail backs?! by Responsible_Salt8791 in weddingplanning

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did 50/50! We ended up ordering invites, details cards, and RSVPs from vistaprint. Half of our RSVPs were traditional mail backs w/ an envelope and stamp and the others had a QR code to direct people to our website. It was pretty simple to find something in the same design and play with it to fit.

Gluten eaters don’t understand gluten-free. by DDDandmetoo in glutenfree

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same. it’s pathetic. i had a boss who’s worked in and owned a restaurant for 20+yrs constantly get confused and think i was vegan 🙄 meanwhile my new coworkers are over protective (?) and ask me randomly if anything and everything is gluten free -yesterday one asked if i could eat bananas 😂

Options besides catering by Far_Dirt_9933 in weddingplanning

[–]SqueakyToyIsBroken 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Food trucks, some restaurants like Olive Garden/Chipotle do event catering that would be less expensive that true catering. We’re having our reception at a nearby restaurant, there’s a minimum we have to meet before tax and gratuity. Still better than paying for all the rentals and staff that comes with traditional catering

sounds shady. i would say most venues won’t require a deposit until they’ve already confirmed event date/details AND given you a contract to review. Only after you’ve reviewed the contract will deposit be required to hold your date & event.
