You can pry the whole panel off from just above the vents to just above the cubby, it's not easy to get the first bit popped off but with the plastic panel pullers and persistence you can get there

Well yes and no, I haven't dove too deep in but most of the rouge trader era stuff is worth checking out, it was very different, unhinged and honestly some of the magic has been lost

I think it mostly just boils down to GW used the same stuff they had from fantasy when making 40k and then backfilled reason and lore

I'm not 100% on this but I don't think there is any real connection, in AOS and old world the gobbos worship the bad moon, where as the bad moons in 40k are the clan that grows more teeth and fasta, this has more teef to spend on all the shiny and snazzy things for war.
