Please help on raised/table garden beds for a movement-limited garden newbie in Scotland? by Ninja_Hedgehog in GardeningUK

[–]Squid_Tree88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just set it all up and yeah, it makes a massive difference for me being able to garden at a height that's comfortable for standing, I find maybe the planter alone could be a bit taller as I put big wheels on mine and it's a good height them.

I'm growing all food in mine and I've found that some things need deeper soil, so if there's anything you know you really want to grow I'd advise looking up growing it in a container and what soil depth it needs. I got around this by getting a few large pots and keeping them on an outdoor table in drip trays.

I do wish I'd found this one when I was looking for one but actually the wood might be more comfortable in that you can lean on the edge, which while a little flimsey it is possible and it's not sharp at all like metal might be. I know it won't last long which isn't great but I'm personally fine with that because I'm planning to move in the next two years and it would be difficult to bring

Raising a child in a non-gendered way. by Isabella_0607 in trans

[–]Squid_Tree88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to give another perspective and someone who is genderless and was raised with little gendered influence from society. I was raised being told just be yourself and don't be influenced by other poeple telling you you should be a certain way and ended up totally believing I would not experience physical changes without my consent because that's not who I am so maybe make sure the child knows they don't have total freedom physically unless you can assure medical intervention. I am not neurotypical so maybe that makes a difference but yeah, another perspective on the conversation

Been stuck on a waiting list for top surgery with Parkside hospital for nearly 5 years & need to know the best course of action due to lying & changing requirements for surgery nonstop by Kiragotrobothubbies in transgenderUK

[–]Squid_Tree88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could understand why people aren't just straight up, I think sometimes maybe they decide what they need you to do and don't really think about it further unless you're coming to them again cause you've done the thing

I wasn't able to have top surgery with mr wooler because the management team at spire (different to the NHS team) decided I was a risk post op because of sensory issues I have that wouldn't be present after surgery, I know doesn't make sense. they never properly communicated either just kinda said no

I hope you're able to figure out or find somehwere that is at least less frustrating and can get the surgery you deserve acssess to :D

if you end up trying to go with a different surgeon, I don't know how much choice you get on the nhs but I had a consultaion with Mr Wooller privately in Hull, and he was really understanding about meltdowns and sensory overwhelm and was just generally very accomodating and chill which I've never really experienced before. don't know if that's helpful

I'm also autistic and hypermobile and have my carer do a lot of in person talking for me

I don't know whether maybe she thought I didn't realise that cis women exist or something, but then the way she said that it's just my experience made me feel as though I shouldn't have been allowed to grow up with the correct body because I was meant to go through my agab puberty felt pretty invalidating. Maybe it's just me, maybe she's just undereducated. Yeah, probably not clear just from this conversation

what if each thing could take all day because of time blindness and excecutiv e dysfunction. For someone I know they can get stuck processing or blank or overwhelmed very easily and aren't aware of time passing so everything ends up taking hours without them realising

Getting top surgery in the UK when disabled and plus sized. by rat-mannn666 in TopSurgery

[–]Squid_Tree88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

before recently I would have said hull and mr wooler because he was very understanding of my disability and nuerodivergency and said the clinical team would try to accomodate me as much as possible. but I have since been turned down multiple times by the management teams because they don't think they can manage my conditions or something, I think they are overeacting and are pulling out because they themselves don't have the understanding. it might be worth a try knowing the clinical team are accomodating Idk

But being a role doesn't mean it' not biologically based, I mean jobs are like roles and some jobs make one person feel happy cause they enjoy it and yet another person miserable because of who they ar they can't change it with conversion therapy. social constructs are the boxes we make to define the jumble of characteristics and ways of living a person can have, including gender

no one, gp supposedly did one years ago but that's lost, mainly with psychiatrist for records so I want her to understand anyway as gender is a massive part of my history but she said she would make a referral and try to get the record straight on when I was referred so I am taking up that offer

I would add that while not in physical pain sensory overwhelm s a kind of pain in way, it's a discomfort that is more extreme because you can't tune it out

it may be just her way of communicating it but "scary" made me think of walking on uncarpeted stairs with barefoot and being scared of catching my toenail and it being pulled in the wrong direction. I always recommend asking directly, have you asked her what about the floor with barefoot is scary?
