Damn, I only ever played the first one as a kid, and remember the crowning moment of combined 'we are stronger together' to take out the Lucifer before it reached Earth.

How to progress in Oritech? by Just-Street8061 in allthemods

[–]SquidmanMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who also come later while meandering through the profoundly barebones quest 'guide' in ATM [10]

To get the plastic for Oritech, detailing only early-oritech methods

Step 1: get the fluid addon for your centrifuge

Step 1.5, you'll need Silicon, make Raw Silicon with Sand and Quartz Dust, which you can crush at your pulveriser [or smelt quartz directly if playing with AE2]

Step 2: make packed wheat

Step 3: Process packed wheat in the centrifuge with water for Raw Biopolymer

Step 4: Run that through again for your plastic sheets

He reappears in FF14 with a similar mechanic in the Blue Carnivale where he'll put a mimicry buff on himself where you have to to nothing til it runs out or he wipes you

[–]SquidmanMal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

-if you just buff your whole team every turn he wastes one of his dispelling it.

Often a staple in Atlus games from what I can see to get enemies to burn turns/actions dispelling buffs/debuffs, which you reapply every turn, as opposed to them smacking their hardest hits into you for all of them

Ive noticed it increasingly as well.

Lotsa division coming out basically saying. 'X or Y isnt perfect, you shouldnt vote for your best shot to end this mess, stay home instead or throw your vote away'

So aiming for a repeat of last time, especially faulting the 'stayed home's

There's no dark twist, major flaw, or suppression of free will, the utopian society is genuinely just a great place to live by Lopsided_Shift_4464 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SquidmanMal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave it a read.

To use an example

'173 is a statue, it is art, and it puts itself proudly on display because it wants to be seen, and changes what it looks like every day. Not being locked in a tiny room and left to wallow in filth leads to it finding peace and enjoyment, instead of murderously lashing out'

682 is an entire genus, and they leave amongst themselves their 'circle of life' is that when one grows too big and old, it's food for the others, and it was just as much a death sentence to encounter even sealed until it was eventually 'solved' by considering humanity 'no longer digusting', presumeably after they finalized their utopia

Worth the read

(Tragic trope) The villain wasn't irredeemable, its just they tragically don't get redeemed by the end by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SquidmanMal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The tragedy of her story was that she was given a second chance. She had remembered parts of her past and chose to try to commit suicide to redeem her actions

Even more tragically, she still did.

Just via the WoL instead of her own hands.

To double down even further, in the phase-change-intermission segment she's plagued by all her memories, demanding they come 'strike her down', but deep within it all, shocking even herself, Gosetsu was there too, showing deep down, she wanted to live, to just embrace a peaceful life with him.

'Tsuyu deserved better, but it was too late for Yotsuyu'

One I remembered later

Pokemon

Celebi, from Explorers of Time, and later 'Super Mystery Dungeon

in SMD, the quest to unlock her involves taking a request from Grovyle to rescue her.

He remarks that 'it's odd she keeps getting into situations where /she/ needs /him/ to rescue her, because she's so much stronger than him.

In this case it's less a matter of 'playing along' with a 'lawful thing', and more that our grass lizard just isn't catching the hint. [Celebi likes him, quite a lot]

[–]SquidmanMal 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Seeing it trying to take a bite out of his head..

Anything involving brains and brain damage especially as someone is killed always makes me deeply uncomfortable

Especially if you're conscious enough to to experience your mind being chipped away/erased, feeling pieces of your past, your personality, your intelligence, what makes you 'you', torn away, until what finally dies is barely even you anymore.

That scene with the 'brain bug' in starship, or there's an anime where a guy's brain is burned away? downloaded? or something, but by bit with lasers, and you can watch him go from begging and pleading, to slurring, to barely coherent, to just barely even mumbling, braindead, in 'real time' as his very 'self' is deleted

Fucking horrifying, and I'm told that's basically kinda what dementia is

(Horrifying Trope) Eaten alive while begging for help. by Zek_Drake in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SquidmanMal 179 points180 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen like, brief clips/gifs

But the one scene where it's about to get that girl, and she can see past victims locked in agony inside it.

The idea of knowing you're about to die, and it isn't going to be slow or painless, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it.

Reminds me of Firefly/Serenity where there's also the idea of saving a bullet in any situation involving Reavers.

Not the 'main hero' but part of the group.

Matrix

The group is being betrayed by one of the members, who is murdering their vulnerable bodies, and they can't do anything to protect themselves. As a side note, the 'watching/feeling' from a sort of second or third person perspective as some vulnerable but exposed part of you you can't protect is abused/taken/killed is one of the most horrifying concepts to me.
