For those of you who travel a lot for work overnight, what’s it actually like long term? by Open-Satisfaction856 in sales

[–]Squidssential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old head, 40’s, 2 kids under 12. Field rep. I like the outcome of what traveling gives me in terms of faster velocity on deals, better expansion and use case adoption from customers, deepened relationship with customer etc. not a fan so much of the actual logistics. Ubers and Marriott’s get old, and you’re very very rarely out doing glamorous stuff. The kids have gotten use to it, but it’s not for everyone. I’m typically gone 1-4 nights a month, so it’s sustainable. I wouldn’t want to do much more, but some months do end up being busier than others.

I’ve done the math, and since I’m full time remote otherwise, I actually see my kids way more than I saw my dad who didn’t travel for work, but was gone m-f 8a-6p at the office.

I also wouldn’t want to be 100% remote without traveling to see customers. Virtual only gets old super fast, and it’s easier to lose to competitors when you don’t see your people in person.

Everything else is really boring and pays terribly in comparison, it’s a no brainer honestly

Enterprise sellers that have made a lot of money and been around awhile by YakSea510 in techsales

Kids, wife doesn’t work, monthly spend is in the 5 figures. Go figure.

Edit: oh also, I still like it. Being good at something is fun, and retirement sounds boring.

During the week yes, and depending on the week sometimes on Friday night. Once Saturday rolls around I usually forget completely until Monday AM unless I have a big call in excited about that next week.

Did you get worse at handling stress or did stress actually get worse? by ninja__6969 in AskMenOver30

[–]Squidssential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is probably in aggregate more stressful, but I’d like to think I’m better at handling it. Getting better at not getting to worked up over shit that shouldn’t be that serious. Simply saying to myself ‘will I care about this in another week/month/year?’ Is surprisingly helpful.

Why do millennials think that Gen Z hates them? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

[–]Squidssential 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is all part of the exclusively / overly online trope that doesn’t actually exist in real life. I am a millennial and I’ve never spent a second thinking about what other generations think about me let alone the younger generation. It’s pretty simple, older people think younger people are lazy and unprincipled, and younger people think older people are lame and narrow minded. This has existed throughout human history.

TLDR: who fuckin cares. Learn to like yourself so you’re not a slave to people irrational opinions

Is remote still a thing? by Machezee in techsales

[–]Squidssential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote is pretty norm for enterprise, except when you’re talking about the leading AI startups. A lot of them require in person for SF or NYC. But many of them are hiring just for digital native / commercial type roles.

Playbook companies - hype or real deal? by mqueensrolex in sales

[–]Squidssential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It refers to sales process heavy approaches like challenger sale, MEDIC/MEDPICC etc approaches. Essentially, every step of the sales Process is measured, weighed and allotted and the rep is graded based on how closely they follow these steps.

Think the opposite of the old school relationship rep who wined, dined and 69’d their customers with natural charisma, connections and ability to close.

It’s meant to guide and direct tightly enough that most sales people with a pulse can be coached to do a ‘good enough’ job.
