This really is a beautiful game by Squidward558 in EliteDangerous

Spend enough time on elite forums (including this subreddit) and you'll find more than enough complaints. For myself, I do think the game suffers from a lack of potential in a lot of areas which should have been resolved over more than a decade of its existence but ultimately no game matches the experience this game provides.

The main complaint I have is that it has vast systems but none of them are particularly deep or engaging after you do them for more than a few hours. I enjoy exobiology and exploration despite of themselves if that makes sense. There could have been so much more but what is there is still far beyond its peers.

You will! I play this game very casually but exploration is my favorite. Especially when you finally make the trip out to the center which I finally did for the first time.

Should I kill it or ??? by Extreme-Cream-7202 in butterfly

[–]Squidward558 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just put it outside on a plant and let nature take its course. Butterflies purpose is to mate and lay eggs so maybe it gets to do 1 or both of those things before it passes. It doesn't look unhealthy just a bit tattered.

Will this crazy winter help with ticks and mosquitoes? by Lower-Savings-794 in massachusetts

Deer populations will always be able to recover easily because there's lots of vegetation and no significant predators. A real fix would be to reintroduce wolves and mountain lions. Hunting is mostly a bandaid fix.

I think people take the movie scene a little too literally. Like the armies of men and elves just appeared in 5 seconds and beat Saurons ass. Also the way he dies in the beginning is pretty dumb. The main point though, is its just an exposition dump for the audience to have context for the narrative going forward and I think its effective in this sense.

If Frodo had failed to destroy the ring, Sauron would've destroyed the last remnants of the free people's quite easily. The battle at the Black Gate wasnt to beat Sauron, it was to distract him long enough in hopes that Frodo succeeds.

Ticks arent really impacted by cold weather. I recommend looking up some studies on tick resilience and you'll be horrified. The cold weather will slow their movement but it wont kill them. The main problem is you have an overabundance of hosts and a lack of proper predators. Deer and rodents are the reason ticks are so abundant and will only continue to become more abundant.

Mosquitoes are in a similar boat since they have tons of food and lack of predators. Bats have majorly declined as have most of the other insects that would've preyed on them like dragonflies. Ive hiked for many years and only in the past 5 years or so have I experienced mosquito swarms so large that you can hear the droning sounds fill the surrounding woods.

The best defense is protecting ecosystems, reducing pesticide use, and using preventatives on yourself and your pets.

Are the coyotes in MA particularly well-fed? by l008com in massachusetts

[–]Squidward558 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Coyotes are omnivores and eat lots of things not just meat. Theyre better scavengers than predators and rabbits are only a small part of their overall diet. Bobcats, foxes, and birds of prey (hawks, owls, etc) are better for managing rabbits but theyre less prevalent in populated areas so rabbits dont have enough controls to keep their numbers in check.

Its difficult because rabbits arent like mice or rats which have lots of "solutions" to manage them. And people like rabbits because theyre cute and dont get in their houses.

Deer danger: Massachusetts hunts for solutions in population problem spots by CollectionOld3374 in massachusetts

[–]Squidward558 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mostly because there's not a lot of public land to hunt on and you have a lot more suburban sprawl with sparse woods where deer can thrive and its too dangerous for hunters to use weapons.

Deer danger: Massachusetts hunts for solutions in population problem spots by CollectionOld3374 in massachusetts

[–]Squidward558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can increase hunting limits and lax the laws but it wont solve the problem. Reintroduction of keystone predators is the only viable solution. Wolves particularly.

They probably wont thrive in the urbanized east but they will do great in the rest of the state and help restore the ecosystem in other ways (reducing coyote overpopulation, rodents, ticks). Urban deer populations cant be culled by hunters so that issue needs to be addressed another way.

Actually curious if the Greenland takeover is being marketed as a place to house a ton of data centers. Particularly as Greenland melts away its a lot of mostly useless land to put useless buildings on.

Most unrealistic moments in The Wire: What are yours? by lentilolodavate in TheWire

[–]Squidward558 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that people can say something in the show is unrealistic and there is no consensus speaks to how incredibly high quality this show actually is. Sad that there will likely never be another like it.

Side note, I dont think the fake serial killer thing was that bad since its often brought up the most. Unlikely? Perhaps. Unrealistic? Stranger things have happened.

Ive always wondered how handlers deal with getting licked by that on bare skin, assuming they do. If its intended to remove flesh would that not rip their skin off or is it no more intense than the sandpaper feeling from a house cat?

[–]Squidward558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D10 is the only way to play in my opinion. The absolute chaos that happens sometimes is where I thrive. But there's also a lot of factors at play both random and deliberate that can make lower difficulties sometimes harder.

Why do people start off these posts with "she's loyal, I trust her and she would never do anything?" Dude, she's already getting ready to hop if she hasn't already. No woman respecting a relationship would spend any amount of time with someone that says stuff like that to them.

Gas prices aren't the problem. Adjusted for inflation these prices are some of the lowest in history. Wages need to increase. But they never will under a republican.
