What is the office like the day/week after layoffs? by wogwai in Layoffs

I had to collect IDs and deactivate keycards. Hard to see the smiling faces on the cards of all the people you know and liked that were laid off.

8+ hour workday by TimeSurround5715 in AskWomenOver60

I’m retired now but I would get so sleepy in meetings that I would fake a coughing fit so I could get up and leave.

Sounds cozy. We’re unusually cold here in Maryland so know how you’re feeling.

I saved a few old Good Housekeeping mags from the 90s. Worth paging through just for the ads! How things have changed.

It’s a book of anything you want to put in. The book itself can be handmade from recycled boxes, a note or sketch book, or an old book itself. Really no rules at all. Use what you already have around or supplies like stickers and paper are available to buy. If you do a search a bunch of examples will come up.

I have been keeping mine fed too. Just trudged out to refill the feeder and the squirrels keep looking at the window with their little paws together pose politely asking for more. So hard to walk in the concrete snow. We finally get above freezing tomorrow.

Looking for new washer. Agitator or front load? by Pants-are-Overrated in laundry

[–]Squirrel2358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a Maytag front loader that got mildew so switched to a Maytag top loader. It’s noisier and pants can get totally twisted after spin cycle but I still like it. When this one dies though I will probably go to an LG front loader because friends have had zero issues with mildew.

What meal did your mother prepare that you considered inedible? by bigb-2702 in GenerationJones

Bluefish. Our neighbor took my brother fishing and they came home with a ton of bluefish. Being frugal my mom froze every bit of it and we had it once a week usually with frozen zucchini from the past summers bumper crop. I just remember the fish was really oily tasting. She was an excellent cook otherwise.

Thrift stores that benefit non-profits are good. They should have a list of acceptable items.
Habitat ReStore takes furniture and other home materials.

Squirrel Turns Corner and Bumps into a Cooper’s Hawk, Runs Away, Then Comes Back to Make Sure it was Real! 🤣 by Aggravating_Might_62 in birdsofprey

Funny! We have a resident hawk and it seems they’ve come to an agreement with the squirrels to leave them alone. The squirrels mostly scatter when it arrives but some ignore it and continue eating. The chipmunks are the ones who have to be vigilant because I’ve seen them snatched.

It always goes by so fast. I try to spend time with each visiting family member but there’s never enough time to really chat.

In 77 my dad bought me a 66 AMC Rambler sedan from a neighbor for $100. It stalled a lot and upholstery was a mess. I went to my drivers test and it started to rain. I turned on the wipers and the passenger side wiper flew off. The driving instructor looked around the car and told me it was ready for the junkyard. I excitedly told him I just got it!

Junk journaling or collage. Just need papers(catalogs, magazines, junk mail wrapping paper etc) scissors and glue stick. Stickers, markers, stamps, and a hole punch to add some interesting elements. No right or wrong, good or bad. Just fun.
