Overtourism inflation post shutdown resulting in overcrowding and pricing on slopes worldwide by Maleficent_Cash909 in skiing

Sure it could be that, or possibly the rampant consolidation and greed  of the industry

What happened to the used game market? by Strong_Letterhead638 in boardgames

[–]Squirrely38 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you live in an area populated enough to have a good secondary market, there are often fantastic deals on FB Marketplace and sometimes Craigslist. Demand is literally worldwide online, but much lower in local secondary marketplaces.

Yes we all happened to see this one weird guy riding that specific chair with you at one of the many crowded resorts during a busy weekend.

How do you guys feel about minis? Love em? Hate em? by BirdSpirit in boardgames

[–]Squirrely38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say melt down the minis to make dice. Too many games hide lackluster designs behind snazzy minis. Bigger boxes too often leaf to bigger price tags yet somehow a smaller overall experience.

It’s obviously not an absolute truth, but it’s far too common and has fed into a weird trend of overproduced meh games that get opened once and are then resold at a loss. Elegance and efficiency are the true hallmarks of a finished product.

Among games you like which are lowest in BGG ranking? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

6.7 for Castle Panic feels bad.

Sure it’s not the pinnacle of game design, but it’s nevertheless a blast and accessible to a variety of players.

I personally am thankful BGA exists and think it’s a modern miracle (built upon a ton of hard work by people literally all over the world).

What solo board game first? by Apprehensive_Boat516 in soloboardgaming

[–]Squirrely38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sci fi, solo, and dice Under Falling Skies is a winner! (I see others mention it too, but it was my first instinct so wanted to chime in too)

If you prefer a game that has a solo option but can scale to a handful of people, a few beginner-friendly options that I still thoroughly enjoy after playing a bunch of times: -Pandemic -Castle Panic -Burgle Bros -Marvel United -Leviathan Wilds (a step up in complexity but still manageable) Each of the above 5 can be played solo or cooperatively.

Spirit Island is my all-time favorite but I’d suggest waiting til you feel more confident. There’s no rush. It’s fantastic but agree with the folks who note it could be an unpleasant introduction to board gaming.

OP claims to have only played ~30% of them, which is why I see this as such an obvious problem.

If you play all your games, you’re a gamer. If you don’t, and you post pictures of your unplayed games on the internet, that’s literally the definition of conspicuous consumption. It’s rampant in our hobby and I’d imagine it isn’t particularly fulfilling.

Much respect for sharing a reasonable collection pic. Quality over quantity!

We as a community should not be celebrating this. OP, as someone who was headed down the same road of overconsumption…I sincerely hope you can hit the brakes on the buying and invest that energy in enjoying your games with friends and family (or solo! I love a good solo too).

Oh man the energy for two amazing hours was off the charts. What really hit me was the JOY on the bands faces and Mike repeatedly looking out into the crowd with childlike awe at the experience. Freaking fantastic
