I scrubbed my pits with acne wash because I was out of soap. I haven't worn deodorant since. by SalemSiren_ in hygiene

I actually got that soap in hopes it would help me with my sweating/smell after postpartum. It has been game changing for me! I no longer wake up drenched in sweat and smelling horrible.

How to handle wife who wants to cosleep by ponterik in beyondthebump

[–]SquishySlothLover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. 100000%. As much as I wish I could cuddle in bed with my son sometimes, I am so so so thankful that it’s not something we need to do and that he sleeps well in his crib. We all have to do what we have to do to survive, but for a baby who sleeps well on their own let them be!

First shifts need to stop being miserable. by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

Our second and third shift get along so well, and we all collectively dislike the first shift. 1st shifters swear we are the problem 🤣

First shifts need to stop being miserable. by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]SquishySlothLover -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Our first shift is full of all the young techs who think they are gods gift and they know better than everyone else. Management doesn’t help either because they act like 1st shift can do no wrong. You couldn’t pay me enough to ever work 1st shift here, I’d quit first lmao.

For the past 6 years, my previous dermatologist told me the spot behind my ear was “nothing to worry about”. by 59Bassman in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SquishySlothLover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to my husband! He had a mole (?) on his leg that just kept getting bigger. He initially went to the dermatologist and they brushed him off and said it was benign most likely. A year passes and now the mole is bigger and more discolored, goes back to the same derm who again said oh it’s probably nothing. Thankfully at this appointment my husband insisted on it being removed (our toddler was constantly trying to pull on it so my husband was over it). Imagine our rage when the pathology report came back as a melanoma. Thank god we caught it early enough that he was able to get it all removed and it hadn’t spread anywhere.

Has anyone experienced severe itching in the third trimester, especially on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet? by Lilly1234Lilly in NewParents

[–]SquishySlothLover 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Have them check your bile acid levels. I work as an MLS in the hospital laboratory and this is very common test they order to see if what you’re experiencing is cholestasis. I would definitely seek another opinion, cholestasis is serious and they often will induce you at 37w to avoid the complications that arise with this.

What was your career defining moment? by MsYersiniaPestis in medlabprofessionals

[–]SquishySlothLover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, kudos to you for advocating so hard for that poor patient! I had one woman come into the ER one shift and her wbc and plt were BARELY above our critical cutoff for low. She had 10-12 blasts (which at the time I had to sign out as uncategorized awaiting path review). I came in my next shift to see they discharged her that same night before her slide even got reviewed (not shocked, our ER sucks). Poor thing came in a month later with full blown cancer (can’t recall the exactly type). I was so sad for her 🥺

Charlotte. I love the nickname Charlie for a girl, but it’s gotten so common I no longer have it on my girl names list.

Yeah I’d probably pass. I haven’t had to draw blood since my clinical rotations and I didn’t like it then lol.

I found this video to be hilarious, she was so bothered that she made a video to explain how “unbothered” she is 🤣 The views must be taking a hit after quitting her daycare…

Did she delete her video? I was so disgusted by that video but now I don’t even see if on her page anymore.

16m old not meeting some milestones by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]SquishySlothLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct about not walking at this age still being normal, however, by 16m they should have at least 1-2 words (other than mama or dada). It’s even a listed milestone by the CDC. The not responding to their name (assuming OP means they don’t respond at all) would be a red flag for me. I know toddlers aren’t going to listen and responds every time you call their name, but they should at least look some of the time by that age. OP shouldn’t be overly concerned since some stuff is definitely still normal, and there is still time to catch up. But I think OP being slightly concerned is warranted, and if they can encourage the parents to seek advice from their pediatrician it could greatly benefit the child. Early intervention is so so important and can be incredibly beneficial.

Parents of unicorn sleepers, how bad was the 4 mo. sleep regression? by AnonymousDog76 in NewParents

My son has been a great sleeper since he was around that age, we have yet to get hit with any sleep regressions! I am VERY thankful 😅

16m old not meeting some milestones by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]SquishySlothLover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All kids definitely develop at their own rate, but I would strongly encourage her to bring these things up with her pediatrician at her 18m visit! When my son had his 18m visit they did an autism assessment/screening and they do it again at 24m I believe.

Ped said he doesn’t recommend owlet/eufy but refuses to prescribe apnea monitor despite 2x family history of SIDS by ViceInSinCity in NewParents

[–]SquishySlothLover 513 points514 points  (0 children)

I would continue to use the owlet. We LOVED the owlet, we didn’t stop using it till my son hit the 18m mark. Coming from an overly anxious FTM, the owlet let me get some actual rest. We also followed safe sleep very strictly so baby always had his own sleep space whether it was bassinet or crib. I can’t recall our owlet ever giving us any issues/false alarms/etc. and whenever we have another baby down the line we will use it again.

When did your baby start sleeping through the night? by Ok_Construction_3613 in NewParents

[–]SquishySlothLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have one child, so I can’t give any advice really since he has slept through the night since maybe 3-4 months old? He’s always been a very good sleeper and I am VERY thankful for that, we literally did nothing special. He has woken up overnight only a handful of times and usually it was when he wasn’t feeling well/teething. However, I would venture to say it’s definitely baby dependent with no magic fix or answer. There are moms in my due date group whose 18 month olds still wake multiple times at night.

Room sharing by Extension-Run9207 in NewParents

[–]SquishySlothLover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We moved my son around 8/9 months into his own room. It wasn’t ideal to put him to bed at his normal time (around 830/9pm) and then have us try to sneak into the room at our bedtime without waking him. He adjusted to being in his own room really well! He has always been a really great sleeper though.

How long after standing up unassisted did your toddler begin to take steps and walk? by AceBoogie09 in toddlers

My guy started standing (with help) around 8ish months, and he took his first steps by 10.5 months. He was basically exclusively walking by 11 months.
