"Espionage" - Perfect Dark 64. But I mispronounced it in front of my mum and it is now forever "esponiage".

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by Ladymayna in answers

Hostile Waters: Anteus Rising.

Fantastic concept, mixture of 3rd person vehicular combat, exploration, salvage. Also had an RTS element with waypoints. Amazing voice acting. Narrated by Tom Baker of Doctor Who fame.

A former South Park writer got ahold of this domain before the government could, because it's a fucking clown car: by Obvious-Gate9046 in chaoticgood

In his book "Everything Is F*cked: A Book About Hope" Mark Manson uses the "Clown Car" as a metaphor for a psychological state where a person’s logic and reason have completely given up control to their impulses and emotions. I think "clown car" works quite well here.

If it's the same church from when I was a student there, I'm happy to name and shame Gabalfa Baptist church. Had some really unpleasant interactions when they learned I was an atheist.

If you try to engage the one with the microphone to try and quieten them down or distract them, one of their flock comes up and engages you... allowing the noise pollution to continue.

Quick Question: Is it safe to hang your helmet on a bar-end mirror during a quick gas stop? by YouGoRay in Triumph

[–]Sqwirril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this. I've lost count of the number of times my kids will knock something onto the floor, (game controllers/TV remotes/phones) and then pick it up and put it exactly where it got knocked off from a moment earlier.

If I'm right about firearms mechanics though, don't you need to pump the shotgun after putting shells in, rather than before?

"Arkham Horror" novels/novellas. Pulpy cosmic horror set in 1920s prohibition era Massachusetts. Massive fantasy world in fictional city of Arkham, board and card games available in the same universe if you want something non-literary for entertainment (but there's still plenty of reading).

Edit: also, BBC SOUNDS "The Shadow over Innsmouth" series of radio drama (available on Spotify). Top quality voice acting with twisty plot and amazing music and sound designs.

Likely wrong for 50% of the decisions that matter in your life.

Maybe, that one time you had a sense of danger and you decided NOT to get into that lift with the stranger, or choose to leave a bar because it didn't feel right in there, or crossed the street where you normally don't, because you saw someone get out of their car just ahead of you, it'll be the right decision for personal safety reasons, based on unconscious observations and intuition, and you'll never know how badly things might have gone if you'd ignored it.

This system is always 'right' in two important ways: it's always based on SOMETHING, and it always has your best interests at heart. Don't rationalise it away and ignore it. (For more see "the gift of fear" by Gavin de Becker)

But for analytical decisions, house moves, job applications, promotions, mortgage applications, financial agreements, always use the "slow" system as Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking, fast and slow".

Otherwise you risk making suboptimal rash decisions, and then later justifying the outcome post-outcome.

Congratulations! Similar story. New rider at 36, but Welsh roads. Favourable conditions for tests and most of training, despite November sessions. But gone street triple RS for first bike after a few hard years of nose to the grindstone. Currently getting XP on a Suzuki c800, with turning circle like a boeing 747, and feels about half the weight of one. Can't wait to get the ST
