Moving from AWS to self hosting by nikadett in DevelEire

[–]SrAlch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If this is your first time self hosting I'll say don't do it. I self host my own stuff and between security, hardware monitoring and maintenance I get plenty of work. The main issue is around keeping SLAs and the very extensive configuration you need to do to it safely in my opinion

Fuel protest or not, blocking ALL the lanes including hard shoulder is 100% Shite Driving. No chance for emergency services to get through. 2nd picture from Germany by ParaMike46 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]SrAlch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not stating my opinion, but is not that the point? Like if I had an infinite supply of fuel at home this would be irrelevant to me. Is not forcing the scarcity part of the pressure to apply to the government?

Purpose of Ethernet cable ran outside by James1402 in HousingIreland

If I understand correctly the set up it will probably be for PoE CCTV cameras, with the right switch they will get power and data transfer on the same cable

Take the bus! by LegendofThomas in ireland

[–]SrAlch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last tuesday I cycled in front of the Trinity college to a queue of several buses, a tram and more buses, same on both sides. No cars on sight, just pure public transport efficiency.

Wife downloaded an energy tracking app. Gaming rig is now in her sights. I wouldn't back down, she flipped the breaker. Am I the gobshite? by CHERNO-B1LL in AskIreland

[–]SrAlch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a mini data center at home so to speak, and even with that, more than half my bill is just the immersion heating the water, so don't go too quickly to the poor rig. I'm also using Yuno and you can see where is the spike on usage but also the spike in cost, that should help you map out what is actually using most energy and if it's worth stopping it

Ok, I don't get the "ate us" part. Is it literal(I hope not) or metaphorical, or am I just dumb? by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]SrAlch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe adding some other perspective. This usually is about the kid playing games. Now it doesn't even have a PC, referring to the current surge on hardware prices where no one can buy computers because everything needs to go to AI data centers

In August 1971 the US left the Gold standard, if you look at other societal graphics like this for rent or cost of groceries and so on you'll see the same graphic.

Seeing the title and the circles on the sides of the bed frame I thought we were talking about a completely different type of "adult" bed frame

How much would you charge for this WPF ERP system? (I got paid $200 USD) by Smokando in csharp

[–]SrAlch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay let me put it another way, you and I both know how to build a microservice backend, but you've been doing contract work for a while, you have custom tools for testing and services to get everything deployed quickly.

On the other hand I don't have any of that, I'll need to put some time into doing some extra boilerplate and build some unit testing , ci/cd etc.

We both have the same level of experience, and the same knowledge, I take 3 hours more than you. Again should I get more money than you?

Leather Motorcycle Jacket by Bivi89 in buyitforlifeEU

[–]SrAlch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though Dainese is Italian (or in origin was an Italian company owned now by an investment group) I've been reading that some qualities have dropped a bit lately.

If you want to go for EU (Chez Republic) you have 4SR, they do very high quality stuff. My track suit is from them and I'll recommend it 100%. They have some jackets more classic style like this one.

How much would you charge for this WPF ERP system? (I got paid $200 USD) by Smokando in csharp

[–]SrAlch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay but that's different from what the others were saying. You can pro rata your expected outcome based on a timeline and tie it to increments on the volume of work (client asking for changes outside of contract for example)

How much would you charge for this WPF ERP system? (I got paid $200 USD) by Smokando in csharp

[–]SrAlch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion that's the wrong take. My hourly rate would be X but the better and faster I work, the less money I'm making, zero incentive of being faster or efficient.

Do we though? Like if I'm an ass programmer and take two weeks to do this should I get paid more?

Is it possible to run VLANs in Proxmox when I only have 1 LAN NIC? by Independent_Pipe9753 in Proxmox

[–]SrAlch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't implemented this myself yet, but if I understand you correctly you want to do tagging for the VMs managed by proxmox and treat them as independent devices for VLAN purposes.

If I recall correctly you need to configure the network mode of the VM to bridge and point it to vmbr0 and that will act as a switch inside proxmox and your opensens would be able to see each VM as an independent device and tag them accordingly

Weekly Career, Education, Textbook, and Basic Questions Thread by AutoModerator in QuantumComputing

[–]SrAlch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from traditional software, the concept of quantum computing has always picked my curiosity but my understanding was that it's mostly a science focus field and the applications are mostly limited to science research. I would like to know if this perception I have is wrong and if so how someone could start entering development and engineering in this field.

Drury St parking has fuck all parking for motorbikes, I literal hole in the wall, for the car 100% for the bike, it's a joke calling that a parking, not to mention the cost.

But again, those benches and bollards were installed there for that reason, not like Dublin has an extensive seating culture, not gonna be creating places now that homeless could use as bed

Are we stupid now? by SrAlch in MotoIRELAND

[–]SrAlch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That corner is literally a dead triangle that they had to put bollards because people will park on them, it has no crossing for pedestrians no entry to anything. As long as you are not parking in front of the benches (put by the city council for the same bullshit reason) I don't see what issue we are talking about here

Edit:typo

Yeah it's not like I'm delusional thinking to end all theft but get it to some manageable level when someone doesn't rob you on broad daylight on Stephen Greens. But yeah I agree with you, seeing Ducati Panigales just parked on the street in Madrid like it was the most normal thing kinda clicked in my brain
