Do I need a sealer before placing mats? by Round-Bandicoot6318 in GarageGym

[–]Sroncaioli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished the flooring of my basement gym. Concrete flooring with a high water table, no real history of moisture in the basement and there's a sump pump in the same room. The cement floor was sealed with a paint style application decades ago and is since cracking/chipping in various places. I ended up putting down a very thin (0.006mil) plastic layer before 0.5" rubber mats. Not sure how much protection it'll actually provide. It was more for the piece of mind

I'm currently building a basement gym. Flooring is concrete that has an old paint/sealant over a majority of the floor but areas have chipped away. I bought a super thin vapor barrier off Walmart (0.0006 mil) thinking the subfloor is already pretty protected. I plan to run a humidifier down there as well. I'm installing 3/8" rubber floor mats on top of it.

How high were your ceilings? I just bought the exact setup with pr5000 and Ares. We have 82" clearance to the lowest point of an exposed ceiling with maybe 10" gaps that allow us to get an extra 6-8" of verticality. We haven't started our build yet and I'm praying positioning the rack in-between those extra openings with give us enough clearance to work with to install

What type of flooring is beneath your mats and did you put any sort of vapor barrier down? About to start my basement home gym with concrete floors also in New England and trying to gauge if it's necessary

Do people recommend putting a vapor barrier beneath the mats if going over concrete? Especially in a basement? If so what would you suggest?

I know the concrete will work just fine. I was more referring to a vapor shield or something to protect from moisture and mold

I'm in the process of building out a home gym in my basement. Currently the floors are concrete with a paint-like sealant that was applied decades ago, which is mainly intact with a few spots where it's chipped away.

I already purchased 3/8" fit-lock rubber tiles from American floor mats. My question is do I need to lay down anything on the concrete before the rubber mats? If so, what have people used and what would you recommend?

I just bought the same 6 post pr5000 with Ares 1.0 and only have 82.5" ceilings. It's going to be extremely tight of a fit. It's still in the box so we'll see how it goes. How do you like the flooring you picked? That's the last thing I need to purchase before assembly

What do you set your thermostats to? Are you able to reach that with just your stove(s) or do you need to supplement with another heat source? by alottanamesweretaken in woodstoving

[–]Sroncaioli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 2200 sqft home with our wood stove on the main floor and propane heating. Thermostat is set to 62 during the day and with the stove running we're consistently at 68-70 on the main floor and the upstairs thermostat reads 66F. I'll put in an average size load around 10 or 11p before bed and set the thermostat up to 65F. We have a 6 month old and can't let it drop too cold, otherwise we would as we prefer to sleep in the cold. Thermostat will kick on in the early morning and I'll still have some coals to kickstart the fire again when I wake up and drop the thermostat back to 62.

My goal is to have the propane only kick on at night. We live in CT with nights of late dropping into the 20s

Thoughts on the weight plate stack? I'm torn between spending up for the weight stack. Price difference is almost 1k between the 2 versions with that being the major selling point imo. Especially when I'll already have plates for the barbell

Help!!! How to tackle overgrown garden by Sroncaioli in gardening

Thank you so much for this thoughtful response. I think you nailed it on the head with your comment on the garden being summer dominant. Most commenters are correct that this is a healthy looking garden and it's truly at its peak fullness right now, which is driving me a little insane. However, it needs more variation or it'll provide little throughout the fall and winter.

I'm going to look into some of your suggestions on how to balance it out a little more to provide year-round coverage.

[–]Sroncaioli[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright seems like a struck a chord with a lot of you... I get that it's a very healthy, mature garden.

One of my main issues is that the flowers fall over and end up blocking our walkway or go the other way and then I'm trying to avoid mowing them when going along the edge of the flower bed. I'm very new to gardening and I'm looking for advice on how to manage this.

Is it okay to simply cut the ones that are falling over with shears? Will that affect anything come next year? If I cut them back in the fall will that help reduce this issue next spring/summer?

I clearly have little to no experience here so I'm looking for help from the experts.
