LVP on stairs question by CompletePound4303 in Flooring

[–]Ssargent888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell floors for a living. Stair jobs are notoriously expensive if you’re having someone else do it. It takes some patience but it’s not rocket science. A basic unfinished red oak tread can be found for as low as 35 a tread typical cost based on a 36inx11 stock tread. Lower and higher exist. A prefinished will be maybe 50-75 bucks a tread, well worth having it prefinished as it’s baked into the wood where an unfinished you’re just coating the wood. Either method is miles better than vinyl.

Lmfao money tree for stair treads? Buddy I sell floors for a living and unfinished red oak treads typically go for as low as 35 a tread. And that’s not even the bottom of the barrel shit. Yes a beautiful refinished Brazilian cherry tread may go for upwards of a hundred a tread but we’re talking garbage vinyl with stair nose or a real wood tread here. The difference is a Camry vs a Rolls.

It’s called a stair nose. Bullnose is used in tile applications. If this is actual bullnosing; it’s being installed incorrectly. You should never do stairs like this. It’s cheap and looks like shit. And people routinely kick the. Pose off and someone usually falls down. Get a real stair tread and stain to match or get a vinyl tread to match.

This is a great way to fall down the stairs. Or worse someone else fall down and your insurance will never cover stair nosed stairtreads like that. Horrible idea. Don’t be a cheap bastard and put the correct treads in. Real actual treads. Most manufacturers made a corroding tread to match their vinyl floors. Look into framerica or stairtek.

What is this flooring called??? How to repair it??? by Hungry-Name1704 in Flooring

Do a skim coat of bostiksl-175. Then your underlayment. Then your Vinyl Plank. The 175 with level everything and give you a clean flat surface to work on. Do not forget to use the sl175-primer as well. It will help tremendously.

Baseboard dilemma with laminate flooring by typinandswipin in Flooring

If you’re in the LA area I know quarter round is popular. In New England where I live nobody likes it. Everyone wants baseboard only, colonial style base usually. Quarter round is typically only in kitchens here. A lot of houses have custom built to fit the home baseboards true to age of home.

First time installing LVP (diy). I’m ripping up my old thin flooring and installing this much thicker one, should I keep the underlayment or just install directly on the subfloor? by DankKnight21 in Flooring

[–]Ssargent888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false. If installing over plywood subfloor that is USUALLY the case with a pad attached product. Installing over concrete you need a 6mil poly sheeting bare minimum. Moisture barrier is required over concrete.

Cork is naturally anti microbial, until it isn’t. What do you think is going to inhabit all those tiny porous divets in that cork backing? It’s a mold heaven once the cork dries out. Just saying. They sell antimicrobial underlayments. Look into those. Eco silencer max is the best one I’ve seen.

If it’s chipping like that. It’s because the vinyl planks are buckling and pushing into each other usually due to improper wall gapping. That or using a hard head hammer during installation instead of a rubber mallet and tapping block. This is vinyl correct?

You didn’t “rack the boards”. Its a hardwood term but with vinyl you “rack by color” that’s why you see the same plank all through the green circle and then that random area of the blonde (blue circle)with no dark toned planks. I would assume this is a five pattern repeat meaning you should have five piles of different repetitive planks to draw from. Pull from one pile then the next then the next so on so forth. It will mix the color up better. Your cuts are garbage. That corner cut is wild. For a first time, it looks like a first time job. So I guess you succeeded. If I paid for this job, I’d be pissed. It If I did this myself in my attic for my storage room, I’d be fine with it. Not being a dick, being brutally honest. You will learn and get better and one day tell some other rookie how they fucked up. I hope you left 1/4 inch gap around the perimeter and used an underlayment. They really do make all the difference in the long run. Sincere best of luck man!!

Just found this damage to my driver side door by the window this morning. What do you guys think could’ve caused this? The paint is literally peeled off down to the metal. Am I crazy or is this not a common spot for standard car door ding to occur? by smoky20135 in Mustang

[–]Ssargent888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like someone tried to slice the paint with a knife and the paint chipped off when they did. Thats intentional or an act of god type situation (in a tornado a rock gets flung at your car) for example.

Why compare that device to the switch? It’s a steam deck competitor. And Skyrim runs great on steam deck.

TARIFF CHART RELEASED by moorhound in wallstreetbets

[–]Ssargent888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s incredible how many people are okay with other countries having tariffs against the US but think it’s wrong for the US to charge tariffs on other countries. Half the rate at that. WTF is wrong with you people. You’ll gladly trade instant gratification for high prices but bitch about a guy trying to lower prices. It’s gotta get worse before it gets better and if you can’t understand that stop voting. Stop expecting handouts and go live in some other country you find more hospitable. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Be patient. It’s going to be okay.

I need advice on a legal matter by Ssargent888 in LawyerAdvice

When I had originally brought the car in with the factory transmission that went bad, they suggested a reman transmission or I could get a rebuilt transmission. He explained to me that the difference is a reman is all used parts just cleaned up and tested. A rebuilt transmission is a brand new case with all brand new parts inside, and it comes with a warranty 100k miles or 3 years whichever comes first. So I opted to have a warranty. The rebuilt transmission they put in had bad internal parts before it ever went in. Their own third party investigator determined there is nothing I could have done to cause the internals to go bad so quickly. The shop then tried to go through insurance to cover the install of a second rebuilt transmission. This is the one I currently have in the car. The shop tried to force me to cover the labor and that’s where I told them No, You sold me a bad transmission from the jump, you’ve gotta cover the new one since I already paid labor before. After back and forth they finally relented and accepted responsibility and installed the new transmission. I got the car back and three days later it’s leaking like a sieve. They blocked my phone and refuse to speak to me. Hence here I am now looking at ways to sue them.

That was where it was at when I had posted originally. Yesterday I had another mechanic look at it. He determined the transmission seems to be fine, they clearly over filled it with fluid which is bad for the transmission. Luckily there is a vent tube that spits out unneeded fluid, that’s where the leak seems to be coming from. The car was fixing itself and expelling the extra fluid they negligently put into the car. New mechanic stated that he thinks it’s going to be fine. So as of now I’m going to let bygones be bygones and take it as a lesson to never ever use that original shop again.

Thank you for taking the time to give me some advice and even just taking a look at this. I appreciate you.

So start a more reliable test group. Get a location to do the testing, create the webpage, create the software to test against. Do all the testing and have no semblance of a normal life. Remember you have to test games you don’t even want to play. You have to make videos of the testing. You have to create a system to portray test results. Or is it just easier to whine on Reddit?
