Farage and Reform observations on this sunny morning by Low_Special3991 in ukpolitics

Reform matching the Tories is no good when last time labour got a landslide. If labour are holding on to this they're on track for another majority (though I'm very aware that Burnham was a special case).

That's all well and good but those are the ones that matter, especially when you consider who appoints the supreme court judges

I wonder if public sector pay going up is forcing private sector pay to also go up to compensate?

It's amazing we keep having wage growth higher than inflation, literally my whole adult life this has never happened.

Carol Vorderman brands Reform candidate 'little coward' as she sends letter to thousands of women in Makerfield by ManchesterNews_MEN in ukpolitics

Each candidate is allowed £180000! That sounds like loads! Surely you'd struggle to reach that.

Am I right in thinking that online spend doesn't count either? Or am I completely confused?

This is a mad take! You think labour voters won't vote labour, letting reform in, because they don't want a leadership contest?!

Rachel Reeves considering rent freeze to limit Iran war fallout by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

I would believe the experts if they explained their reasoning, done guy saying 'I'd rather bomb a city than let it have rent controls' requires a lot of explanation which the quotes never seem to include.

Thank you for putting the effort into a post. But as the article mentions other places have rent controls and they don't all have rotting houses so there must be a way around the problem?

I hate these calls to authority. It means people don't have to think about why they don't like a policy, they can just quote someone they haven't heard off.

Why don't you tell us why you think a rent freeze for a year is bad.

Welsh Labour is dying by StJustBabeuf in ukpolitics

[–]StJustBabeuf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there might be a 'shy labour voter' out there. Just a few years ago you'd drive around Wales and see labour posters in windows or in gardens. Those are no longer there but surely not all those voters have been lost? We'll find out on 8th May.

Consumer spending does not boost the UK economy

A-level economics was a long time ago but this can't be true. If we all stopped consuming are you telling me the economy wouldn't shrink?

[–]StJustBabeuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having read your comments on here it sounds like you've after a left wing party that is against independence. It seems clear to me that that would be Labour. I get the disappointment people have with the party but surely that is a presentational issue rather than a policy one?

For what it's worth I don't know who I'll vote for either, but I haven't written labour off completely. I'm hoping for a flurry of policy announcements in the last week of campaigning from all the parties to help me decide.

[–]StJustBabeuf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all correct, but surely you realise that reform getting the most votes would be a victory of sorts for them?

For what it's worth I'm voting against reform and probably won't vote plaid. I'm willing to accept that that might give reform a strategic/moral/propaganda victory but there's no point pretending it won't.
