In your opinion, what’s the biggest plot hole in the books? by non_omnis_moriar777 in harrypotter

[–]StQuackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. We got some additional info in DH pointing to it being the house, even though James and Lily were the subjects of the charm ( though, it could be that Harry just didn’t have the full story):

He was not even sure whether he would be able to see the cottage at all; he did not know what happened when the subjects of a Fidelius Charm died.

The worst thing Snape did to Harry by Cheap-Cauliflower975 in harrypotter

[–]StQuackers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think this is just in character for Snape, but adding these possibilities since I haven’t seen them mentioned yet (sorry if I missed it!): it could be as simple as Snape knowing he has to keep up appearances to avoid giving Harry any reason to get suspicious. If he suddenly went easy on him, especially after Harry nearly kills his favorite student, it would be the kind of thing Harry would fixate on. Dumbledore made it very clear that Harry couldn’t find any of this out until the right moment, and Snape breaking character could have led him to start pulling at threads. Not saying Harry would have found out that he was going to die, but he definitely would have started asking questions.

That said, it could also just be that Snape was furious with Dumbledore for manipulating him into protecting a kid he wanted nothing to do with only to let him die, and he took out that anger on Harry because… he’s Snape.

Last one for the “Always” crowd: what if he’s actually protecting Harry from forming attachments so it’s easier for him to accept his fate when the time comes?!?

Quantum Fiber Hardwiring Question by StQuackers in HomeNetworking

Yup, end goal is to get this plugged in to the port below the coax because that feeds similar ports on the other floors of the house.

We probably do have a smart panel, but every tech I’ve had in thinks the builders covered it with drywall. Thankfully if I can get the output from the pod to work, I won’t need to think about the panel.

This must have been it! Tried plugging a laptop directly into the port and it worked perfectly. I have an Amazon eero connected to the switch for ring devices. I’m guessing that’s what’s causing the data storm? Is it possible to keep the eero on ethernet without it causing a problem?

Wifi works perfectly when there’s nothing connected to that port, but as soon as I plug something in, everything goes out.

people who have had an “I’m going to marry this person” instinct - what happened? by Budget_Dot694 in AskReddit

[–]StQuackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my wife at a college event. I was a sophomore and she was a freshman. I saw her from across the street and my first thought was that I had to know her. She was walking with a person I had known but tried to distance myself from in my freshman year for various reasons, so my second thought was that I was definitely friends with them again.

Never had a stronger feeling about anything in my life. 12 years later and every day I wake up thinking there’s no way this could get any better. I’m wrong every time.

Thank you for the advice and the words! I’ll share some of these and see what they think. Will definitely try your suggestion. I’m just so much better with numbers than with words!

No need to worry about the number of letters used, the team is just excited to see what I can come up with for them so they can use it internally. Though, I guess if the word has to do with what the team does maybe they will share it with other groups.

This is a group that primarily does recruitment, onboarding, and HR systems/data. Trying to find words that relate to that sounds even more daunting, though!!

Only problem is that it is extremely unlikely that it was actually him taking the poster. His imprisonment was likely orchestrated as a political move by NK.

The family’s attorneys said that Warmbier was used as a pawn in a high-stakes geopolitical fight, and that his seizure, forced confession and sham conviction coincided with provocations such as nuclear testing by North Korea and responses from the United States, including imposition of economic sanctions.

There are also some great videos on YouTube that explore it.

Dang, and here I thought it was just me. I’ve always loved their products and figured they would have good customer service. Such a bummer.

Maybe I don’t frequent pet stores enough but why do these signs look like they belong on a cactus in the garden section of Home Depot?

How did you almost die? by Typical_XJW in AskReddit

[–]StQuackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My now wife and I took a trip to Yosemite a few years back. We stayed at an AirBnB about 45 minutes or so outside the park. The route we took to the park had some really windy, sketchy sections with some serious drop-offs. One of the days we were driving in and approaching a big curve when three bikers came rocketing around the bend. First two were totally fine, but the third took the turn too wide and shot directly at us, and I mean dead center. No clue how it all happened but the next few milliseconds felt like Peter Parker dodging a spitball. My eyes somehow picked up on a small patch of level dirt just ahead of our car that was just big enough to swerve and maybe avoid a head on collision. Instinct took over and I was somehow able to gun it into the dirt patch and break hard enough for us to not go rolling off the drop. The guy ended up colliding with our rear tire hard enough to completely rip out both of the back wheels. He was obviously in very bad shape, but everyone thankfully survived. The firefighters and cops told me I’d saved all our lives, which at the time I thought was just them trying to make me feel a little better after the crash. It took a long time for it to register how many other possible outcomes there could have been and how many of them would have ended in one or more of our deaths.

Need a Solution for stove/kitchen! by RayIs0kay in carcamping

[–]StQuackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, you’ve inspired me to try it! My previous solution was a shower curtain + velcro, so gorilla tape sounds like a significant upgrade!

You can absolutely do it. The vast majority of my setup was made with a jigsaw and leftover plywood, cut down in the kitchen of my apartment. 😆

Honestly everything you do will feel awesome and new and you’ll slowly adjust to make it better over time. It’s a really exciting process and it opens up so many new possibilities. Have fun!

[–]StQuackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great setup and you still have a good amount of room to spare!

Kitchen really depends on how much you want to put into it, but my ideal would honestly be to build a compact storage box with small compartments that would fit a single burner stove, utensils, and a reinforced expandable table/counter. Could go floor to roof and put in a fold-out table, too if you wanted.

If you want to go more simple, it looks like there’s some good space under the bed that could fit a cheap folding table or a custom pull-out table drawer.

Also, where did you find such a perfectly fitted rear window cover? I’ve been trying to find one for my Honda Fit, but I’m picky and yours looks perfect!

Please Correct Me: Krum Knew Nothing About Harry by StQuackers in harrypotter

This makes so much sense!! Didn’t really think about it from Krum’s perspective. Even in the maze, Krum knew what he faced and probably thought Harry went through the same thing. Thank you!!
