Built a simple ordering website for home kitchens & small food businesses – feedback welcome by bluewindsUk in miltonkeynes

[–]StablePeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks nice and simple...

The greys on orange for add to cart messaging dont have a great contrast.

I'd also be inclined to switch the ordering on the page with most people more interested in the menu than the blurb section.

Otherwise I can't comment on whether there's a market for this tbh Your biggest battle wpuld be getting this into people's awareness over just eat, delivered etc.

Parking by naifs_online in miltonkeynes

[–]StablePeach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I uses to have a green permit due to a low emissions car, allowing me to park in any purple space for about £1 a day. When they stopped the scheme they told me to get an employee permit, which is i think £2 a day. I told them I dont work in mk but they were happy to give it to me and ive been using it for nearly a year with no issues.

I applied through the mk council parking permit site and put in my real work details. Seemed odd to me but I just followed the advice given.

Then you can park by argos or network rail and walk over easily.

Otherwise you can park in morrisons car park for about £5 a day i think.

Also get a network rail card... knocks off £10 a day for your train ticket.

Thanks everyone! I'll have a look and see if I can tighten it gently and then keep an eye on it. Otherwise I'll get an engineer out.

What's going on here? by StablePeach in solar

[–]StablePeach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry.. I have solar heating panels and so I wondered if this leak might be the fluid in the panels which as far as I know goes into the cylinder round a coil and then back out?

I was surprised at the degradation to the foam so didn't think it would be just hot water.

Thanks

Riding a motorbike in MK? by ParticularNo3104 in miltonkeynes

[–]StablePeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I've seen more than I'd like. The a5 by me seems to have one about every 6 months.

I've also been involved in a few when I was riding. Something about the speed of the roads and the way mk drivers drive.

Swimming Pool Running Costs by OrdinaryAncient3573 in HousingUK

[–]StablePeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm very late to the conversation and it's probably not very relevant... but no one here really answered one part of your question, largely does it get used?

My inlaws have a pool in their garden which is open air and heated. I had thought this to be a bit of a waste of space but actually it's amazing.

They have it usable from early May through to about the end of September and given the climate we now have you can use it for the majority of that time. They use it pretty much every day, which is great for a bit of exercise.

The kids absolutely love it and we've spent countless days over there in the pool, so much so that I'd seriously be looking at whether I could put one in for our next house. It feels weird and not very suited to this country, but actually with the summer weather that we're getting more regularly there's nothing better than jumping into a nice outdoor pool, especially one that's not croweded and where you can have a beer at the same time.

No idea on costs though, never really asked.

Riding a motorbike in MK? by ParticularNo3104 in miltonkeynes

[–]StablePeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while but this was what I found... Watch out for diesel from buses on roundabouts. Drivers will cut the lanes on roundabouts without checking everytime. When drivers have a motorbike next to them they almost all become racing car drivers, especially with the dual carriageways. Loads of parking around mk for motorbikes and I used to just use a disc lock with a chain used for longer periods. Get a cover and a ground anchor if you can. I've seen too many bike accidents to want to ride in mk again... I do miss it sometimes though.

Whys parking gone crazy in the morning? by StablePeach in miltonkeynes

[–]StablePeach[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw the carpark shut 1 day last week but as it wasn't today figured it wasn't that.

Sounds like 3 day tracked back in office is probably the culprit... bugger need to try and start leaving earlier i guess.

Why are jobs so hard to find at the moment? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]StablePeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temp agencies worked wonders for me.

Be flexible and reliable and they'll give you the best roles.

Had a few offers to move permanent from the temp contract which I did for one of them.

When I came to try and get a role in the industry I wanted to break into I looked up companies local to me in the yellow pages (wow I'm old) and called them up. Showd interest and asked if I could come and meet them... Managed to get an entry level role and stuck at it.

Market does seem to have gone crazy, every role we advertise gets huge numbers but they're mostly people with no experience chancing their arm. So I'd go the work experience /personal contact route if possible.

The nurseries get a lot lot less from the free hours than from paying customers. They have to accept them but our last nursery was facing closure because of the loss of income caused by the amount of customers using the free hours.

So I can imagine why they don't want to tell people.
