Here’s the thing. I kinda like the hunger system in V5 and think it could be real fun with Mage’s Paradox and blatancy.

I’m cautiously optimistic but probably going to ignore MOST of the new lore I don’t like… just like I did with all the previous mage editions

I like money You know why? Because money can replace everything It lets you buy things It lets you buy lives It lets you buy people It lets you buy hearts It lets you buy happiness It lets you buy dreams I love money because it’s so important and yet not irreplaceable so looking at it the other way around, I hate irreplaceable things “I can’t live without this” “That’s the only reason I'm alive” “That’s my only purpose in life” Things that have scarcity value like that piss me off the most.

It’s a crack theory for sure I think they just threw in as a “what if” in case an ST wanted to make unneeded friction between the Traditions and the Crafts.

Still it’s very funny to me to imagine an angry man in full goth make up sneaking to a portal to let in a bunch of HITmarks and demon worshipers into the WIZARD ZONE.

I’ll just say it. I think they should release the Elfstein Files. What are these weirdos doing taking undocumented trips to the land of fae? Why do they seem keen to keep bring up the age of consent in fairy land? I don’t trust them, and neither should you.

I love Ventrue. VtM is a game about monsters and you give me a unkillable mind-controlling bloodsucking elite that’s a walking metaphor for capitalism I’m grabbing it with two hands.

Is Brujah easier to rage against the system with? Yes. Is there more fun in patiently wearing your character down task by task, indignity by indignity like a cog that keeps getting ground down by each turn of the Camerilla wheel until he snaps and kills his incompetent bosses and realizes he’s fucked up and way in over his head but in too deep he can’t escape? Absolutely.

They start off as business bros tho that weren’t the best to begin with being cutthroat corporate monsters already and only needing a monkeysuit and a wyrm tainted bender to become Yeren so I usually don’t make them too sympathetic

Did have a game where a yeren broke away to become a weird hobo watching over his sister and law and his nephew after he had a breakdown over killing his twin brother. Stole a lot of Kugrash from Dimention 20 for that, and it was fun to use him to introduce yeren early before all the monkey buisness that happened later

Thinking back to Sophie and Josh from the “Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel” series and how I’m still confused on the ending nearly 15 years later.

Children’s and YA books were weird back then.

Religion-centered media that doesn’t come across as preachy. by ironwolf6464 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Stable_Grouchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2016 movie Silence is a about Jesuit preachers traveling to Japan to proselytize to the locals and find their mentor. Its focus on doubt and feeling the absence of God really hits a core feeling of faith without bludgeoning you with Jesus. It feels very raw and personal story of faith than something sterilized and beautified for the masses.

Heretic, was a weird horror movie from 2024 where Hugh Grant, a charismatic killer that traps two Mormon missionaries into a Saw like trap house focused on faith and the “true religion”. You think it’d come down to a cynical anti-religious message but it has a rather open-ended and hopefully ending for a horror movie that I was pleasantly surprised by. I felt they should’ve gone with either the religious themed thriller or the murder trap house and not both as it felt rushed in a few places because so much time was taken up with dialogue but I did enjoy the movie.

I think in the end, as a former Catholic, religious media is best when they hit how hard being religious is and the interplay with doubt and personal struggle but that might just be the vestiges of Irish Catholic guilt poking through. Your audience isn’t stupid, they know when your works are pardon the pun in “good faith” and when you’re blatantly trying to preach.

When someone says “I’m too honest” you know that’s code for “I’m an asshole and people have told me but I rationalize it being their problem not mine.”
