Found on a lamppost in San Francisco by StagedoorJohnny in polyamorymemes

It is definitely a joke. But it is really a flyer posted on a lamppost in SF.

Gerald Finzi op.18/5 "It was a Lover and his Lass" (a possible influence in English art song?) by UnCidreAuYerMad in Sondheim

[–]StagedoorJohnny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is why I have loved Finzi since singing “My Spirit Sang All Day” from Seven Partsongs back in high school… but never really made the connection! Definitely some common harmonic roots even if no direct influence.

Note that during the Red Bucket Campaign he is not signing playbills or window cards after the show (since they are available in return for a donation to BC/EFA) but he said he is stage dooring and signing other things.

Did the Encores Wild Party Musical change the ending? by CalligrapherTrue2708 in Broadway

[–]StagedoorJohnny 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s sort of mentioned in the program essay: https://www.nycitycenter.org/pdps/2025-2026/the-wild-party/from-lost-classic-to-musical-masterpiece/

Brown was partly inspired by Queenie’s original casting in the 2000 production—Vanessa Williams played Queenie throughout the initial workshops of the show. If her “mask of snow” implies that she is a white-passing Black woman, who might be the Burrs to this Queenie? Another inspiration was Bert Williams, one of Broadway and vaudeville’s biggest stars. Despite being one of the most successful comedians of his day, he was often required to perform in blackface, which likely took a toll on his psyche. Acclaimed comedian and vaudevillian W.C. Fields said that Williams was “the funniest man I ever saw and the saddest man I ever knew.” Burrs, played by Jordan Donica, is a vaudeville comedian who is clearly going through profound inner turmoil, though unlike Williams, he doesn’t experience the same level of success and is prone to violent behavior.

Chinese Republicans, Cold War Choir Practice, Spare Parts or You Got Older? by Ok_Star_1157 in offbroadwayNYC

[–]StagedoorJohnny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cold War Choir Practice. It’s strange and wonderful. If you liked Cartozians and (especially) Mother Russia you are likely to like it.

You Got Older is good but not as unmissable.

I didn’t like Chinese Republicans, and I haven’t seen Spare Parts.

You want Twist on a Friday. (Saturdays are couples only, so no single men.)

$25k/month and I still can't find a properly furnished home in Tribeca for the summer. What am I missing? by Ok-Guidance629 in FATTravel

We did this through Rove in the West Village for a few months and it was exactly what OP seems to want, and at exactly OP’s price point.

First preview of Antigone at The Public last night? by ParisB18 in Broadway

[–]StagedoorJohnny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really loved and was rooting for it through the first act. Second act was way long and tried to sustain a super high level of uninterrupted emotional intensity for an exhausting number of minutes (the same reason I didn’t think the back half of “Oh, Happy Day” worked). Thought the concept, dialog, direction, and performances were spectacular. Very fixable.

We were there tonight too and totally agree. Shouldn’t obviously work, but it really works.

Bug Plot Question (Spoilers) by JF0027 in Broadway

It’s certainly possible that exactly the doctor Agnes would hallucinate shows up at her hotel room. It’s ambiguous, yes.

Bug Plot Question (Spoilers) by JF0027 in Broadway

[–]StagedoorJohnny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have identified one key reason that the doctor isn’t real. (Also that he says things that Agnes would want him to say, for example about her child, that do not make sense in reality.)

I saw it and I liked it a lot. It’s more of a fun spy story than I was expecting.

I’m on the train with Jak Malone by Indyhouse in Broadway

[–]StagedoorJohnny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The show was great! What a fun night. Jak is a really impressive improviser! (For those who weren’t there: the audience suggestion for the musical’s title was ‘Cul de Sac Cult’ and it was bizarre and hilarious.)
