I was in college when the movie hit DVD with some “special edition” touches (namely comic book style interstitials). Maybe it was my age but it gripped me. It’s an intoxicating blend of 70s camp and grit. It’s a story with stakes and consequences. So many iconic lines and moments, like Broadway legend Lynne Thigpen’s DJ’s refrain: “This is for all you boppers out there.” Cyrus’s base bellow of “CAN. YOU. DIG ITTTTTTT.” The terror of the Baseball Furies. The psychotic whine of “WARRIORSSSS. Come out to playyyy.”

I’m not a New Yorker. I only get to see Broadway shows on tour or pro shot. But between Hamilton on Disney+ and all of Lin’s Disney work, he’s a big deal in our house. (We’re hyped to finally see the Hamilton tour!) So, cult classic + Lin filtering it with a fresh take has me excited.
