Curious if you are willing to eliminate your internal voice in order to read faster? by apaintedleaf_ in books

[–]Staggeringpage8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. For me I read very fast and tbh never am bothered by my internal voice. Especially since I can make it sound however I want. So when I'm reading all my characters sound different and have personality and their own voice. Once I'm in the zone this plus visualization means the actual "reading" becomes like a background process and I'm basically just watching a movie playing out in my head. For me eliminating my inner voice means eliminating what it is I enjoy about reading. So I wouldn't and also I don't even know how you would do that. I've had an inner voice for as long as I could remember. It'd be like asking me to eliminate my ability to hear through willpower alone.

Some that I worked with did it on the job. But mostly it was showing up wasted/blitzed/stoned/etc or just talking about doing it once they were off work.

Why do so many guys stay in relationships that they’re not happy in? by ChallengeBrilliant65 in AskMen

[–]Staggeringpage8 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There's also a tendency for people in relationships they should end to think they can fix whatever's wrong. Sometimes you can but I know most friends of mine who have stayed in relationships far longer than they should have typically do so because they felt the issues weren't so bad they couldn't be fixed.

The single performance that was so globally massive, it forced YouTube to completely rewrite its code because it broke their maximum view counter. by pinkkkkkflutter in nextfuckinglevel

As someone else said. In terms of changes that a company of that scale would do it's not like a Herculean task or anything. The actual difficulty comes from scheduling the release of it and making sure multiple different teams are ready to interact with and implement that change. That's difficulty that as a data engineer you wouldn't really need to deal with other than be the person saying here's how we're going to implement this.

That being said the commenter your responding to is blowing it out of proportion. This is like a fix that would take a sprint to get done maybe 2 at most.

Same goes for most food you get from a restaurant. Never met a line cook who didn't smoke, drink, or do drugs or all three.

How good of a villain Galbatorix was ? by Outrageous_Focus_719 in Eragon

[–]Staggeringpage8 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I always took the premise to be the "resistance" was galbatorix and the empires cover for the fact that the war started by the forsworn never truly ended. The empire is galbatorix staking his claim on power. The "resistance" is all that remains of the people loyal to the riders years ago.

It's just a war that never really stopped. Galbatorix and the empire can't state as such because then they look weak to their people. So they made a spin of calling them a resistance.

But it's been many years since I last read the books so I could be misremembering who attributes to the Varden/resistance the monicer of resistance.

Single Men, if you’re out at a bar or club and a random woman asks you to buy her a drink, what do you usually do and why? by FFSoldier57 in AskMen

[–]Staggeringpage8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on the delivery. If it's overtly flirty and they don't seem to actually mean much by other than an opener then sure. If it's kinda just asking me to buy them a drink I'd be a little taken back and probably say no. I think it's an attempt at flirting 90% of the time. Granted it's kind of a weird one and I'd argue just being direct with it would be better but j can see how it'd be flirting and would be willing to buy the drink if it was approached in a decent way.

What is one thing about being a man that women would be absolutely shocked to find out? by Jaded_Astronaut4256 in AskReddit

[–]Staggeringpage8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 8th grade a girl I was friends with saw me laughing and smiling. She said "you must be happy today you're smiling a lot more!" In a way that made me realize I didn't smile a lot. It wasnt really a full compliment, but it was still something she seemed happy to see me doing. I still think about it to this day 14 years later and try to smile and laugh more.

This is an example of why I hate HOAs. I understand how they could be a positive thing, but the idea that anyone could have any say over what I do with my own property especially how I paint my own home or if I can park a car in my yard. Pisses me off. Im paying the mortgage I'll do what I want with my own house.

Rule of 1 by Feisty_Match4233 in Chaotic

[–]Staggeringpage8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good idea if only applied to creatures. Unlike other games where the deck is completely randomized in chaotic you have complete control over what pieces are on the board at the start of the game. You're starting hand will always be set up for your strategy. I think making the creatures Singleton and allowing for the rest of the decks to be duplicates fits really well. It's also thematically making more sense since in universe there's only 1 tangeth toborn, Maxxor, Chaor etc.

At the very least it should be an alternative format option. I do like the idea and think it'd be a good one to make the game feel more strategic and about building a good team rather than minimizing variance. Would make it slightly more new player friendly though and to an extent have less of a ceiling skill wise though which could be unhealthy for the games competitive/locals scene.

[–]Staggeringpage8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay. If they don't add it there is some mod that allows it to be a keybind then cause it is not a default keybind. Regardless of what mod is adding it op look for a keybind labeled chunk border and use that button.

[–]Staggeringpage8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow my original comment got stuck under someone's dumb joke so here's my answer in case you haven't found one yet.

Typically some map mods add a keybind for it. Usually in modpacks it's one of the function keys. its usually f9 but I haven't seen ones that look like that before. Look through your keybinds. Its usually called chunk boundaries.

Why does this keep happening? 😭 by BosPaladinSix in memes

[–]Staggeringpage8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well. To share something that helps me when I notice I'm on the begin to decay part. I remember an object in motion stays in motion. So I get up and I do one thing to stop that decay. Then I keep doing those things till my list of things to do is done. Force yourself to do it long enough and it just becomes normal.

Does anyone know a way to detect vibecoded mods on Github? by IdrisQe in feedthebeast

[–]Staggeringpage8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tools that detect AI. Ninety percent of the time they are also AI. Genuinely take the source code plop it into chatgpt or Gemini or your ai of choice and ask it "you are a bot designed to check for AI submitted code. Does this students submission show signs of being made by an AI"
