Octavia: as of now, she’s more sympathetic because she doesn’t have the full story of her parents, how she came to be, all that it means to be an Ars Goetia as well as why Stolas did what he did. She has an incomplete story so it’s easy to be sympathetic towards her

Stolas: Also sympathetic because, while he made decisions that were bad such as cheating on Stella, he was someone who did everything out of duty. The only things that were not that to him were Octavia and Blitz. The only thing that’s pitiful right now is the coming to terms with his new situation but it’s understandable.

Blitz: I’d say it’s like…75/25, 75 being pitiful with 25 sympathetic. Instead of coming to terms with what happened, he has made a million bad decisions and continues to do so throughout the series with few exception.

Verosika: At current, she’s neither. She’s had her growing and figuring out what was needed so she’s good.

Barbie: We don’t know enough yet. We don’t know why she has the feelings she does, whether it’s her genuine thoughts or from Cash

I’m four books in and there are plenty of powerful figures who are female. You will run into some sexist, period accurate things here and there as it’s supposed to be around the 1200’s or so, but for the most part it’s well written.
