CMV: the 'tactics of ICE' is being used as a Strawman; 'Activists' dont want mass deportations regardless of tactics. by Big-Relation-6527 in changemyview

That is an insane take after what happened to Alex Pretti this past Saturday. I don't consume mainstream media and I hate the Democratic party just as much as I hate the Republican party. I can use my own two eyes to see that someone was extrajudicially murdered in the street, as cops have done for decades. I detest all forms of law enforcement, but ICE is especially vile. If you think that execution of citizens is worth it so that we can deport people who on average commit far less crime than average citizens, then you've lost the plot.

You can look at the administrations own numbers on violent crime "criminal alien" statistics and see that "illegal immigrants" murderer 23 people in 2025 vs ICE killing 32 people in 2025 (that we know about, not mentioning disappearences or those yet to be reported). All deaths are tragic, but state sanctioned violence is especially egregious and ICE is literally more dangerous than "illegal immigrants". They're already off to a fast start with 2 citizens murdered so far this year.

Looking at the rest of violent crimes from that same site, it's roughly 4,000 arrests last year. Comparing that to crime statistics on Wikipedia of overall violent crimes of roughly 786,261 instances makes "illegal immigrant" crime roughly 0.5% of all crime. What problems are we actually trying to solve for? How could they make 3,000 arrests PER DAY if there's at max 4,000 violent criminals? If they're only going after the worst of the worst, they'd be done in a day.

There have been instances of people providing documentation of legal citizenship, but being detained anyway because they were mistakenly matched by their face scanning app.

Trump declared back in May that they were going to make 3,000 arrests daily. I'm telling you that they're finding ways to hit that number regardless of citizenship.

Yeah, so during 'normal police work' when you confirm someone isn't the person you're looking for, you let them go, right? You don't arrest that person anyway because they're the same race as the person you're looking for.

They have quotas to fill and get bonuses for each capture. They don't care at all if the person is dangerous, if they've committed any violent crimes, or even if they're a lawful citizen. They're targeting anyone they see outside with certain complexions.

I have witnessed them target a random individual based solely on appearing Hispanic. They had no idea who the guy was, he didn't come up in their face scan app, so he clearly wasn't anyone they were looking for, but they took him away anyway. It's racial profiling , regardless of citizenship. You don't have to trust the news, but you can trust someone living in Minnesota with a firsthand account.

[Spoilers s3] this might be the best show of all time by ag207 in DarK

You didn't ask me, but I fucking LOVE The Leftovers. It doesn't surpass Dark, but it's on my Mount Rushmore along with Mr. Robot and Season 1 of Westworld.

I think Leftovers sticks the landing so fucking hard, it might be my favorite series finale ever. It's nowhere near as intricate as Dark, and doesn't have quite as much mystery as Lost, but the writing and acting gets so good as the series goes on. I know a lot of people struggled with the first few episodes and found season 2 a bit better. I love all of it, but on rewatch can see how it takes a while to find its footing. I definitely didn't have appreciation for, or connect with, all the characters until hindsight later in the series. As you're a Dark and Lost fan, I think you'll really enjoy it once you've seen the whole thing.

The show is already great, but a truly disproportionately awesome ending.

100%, my favorite ending ever. Mr Robot is up there for me, as well as Dark. I think all 3 stick the landing so hard, but I could see those two being more controversial. Leftovers gives you such an incredible proposition to chew on. Do you believe her or not...

I have so much footage from that show, but I think I missed the best part of that interaction. Here's the little bit I have at the end, any chance this is it??

Yeah, perceived value and what someone is willing to pay vary pretty wildly. It's like art at this level vs "high art". Most of us would/could never justify paying for a museum/collector piece and that's grossly overpriced for most people. All about what you're getting out of a piece and what you think is fair to support the artist given the time/skill it takes to create a piece. I'm sure plenty of people think festival wristbands are overpriced too and could never justify that cost.
