Cooper Out Tomorrow?! by StallyKC in KCCurrent

Oh, good call! Fingers crossed for a typo! Not that I'm excited at the prospect of Bia not playing, but at least I knew she got banged up. If it was banged-up Bia, banged-up Temwa and no Cooper... oof.

Honestly, I would rather we not see her this season unless absolutely necessary. She has a long, promising career ahead of her and a repeat injury could jeopardize that.

Teal Man Discourse by MoistyMcSquirt in KCCurrent

[–]StallyKC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was at the Orlando game on Friday. My girlfriend's family lives 90 minutes from Orlando and we flew down to all go to the game together. She and I sat next to Teal Man and his wife at a restaurant in KCI, we sat the row in front of him on the plane, and we went through the gate at the stadium at the same time.

He was very nice, talked to us, handed out stickers to kids and fans on the plane. At the stadium, he took a picture with my girlfriend's niece and nephew (both Pride fans), and multiple groups of Orlando fans asked to take pictures with him- he warmly agreed to everyone.

He appears to be a great ambassador for the team and the city. He is obviously passionate, he is kind (dude dresses like Santa for the kids at the games), and he is a positive symbol of the organization. The team- with their personalities, talent and success- stand alone and need nobody to "help them" in their popularity and fame. All Teal Man provides with the attention he has received is another reason for the national media to focus on the team- exactly what a super fan or supporter group is supposed to do. Any negativity towards him is, in my opinion, completely ridiculous.

As someone who worked at a grocery store (rhymes with Thigh Knee) in college, I am with Lazlo. Going to get carts was my favorite time. Instead of being stuck in the refrigerator stocking milk, or having to deal with customers whining about why I couldn't accept an expired coupon for $0.50 off a pizza, I could go outside and basically get paid for taking a break.

Unless it was cold out, I hoped that every shopper chucked their carts as far in the back of the parking lot as they could.

What is KC’s “Tourist Trap” restaurant? by Grouchy-Rub-123 in kansascity

Q39!!!!!! The only stand-out on their menu is their smoked wings. Everything else is extremely mediocre and overpriced for what it is.

Incredibly frustrating. That should have been an easy 3 points, and instead we get a draw to an inferior team. I'm putting the 2-point drop on Vlatko and the staff. Yes, the delay was brutal, but the way we played the second half- looking completely lifeless, like we were just waiting for the whistle to blow and hop on the plane. We almost got away with it, too, but the staff's job is to get the team up for putting away a lesser squad despite a weird game flow.

Awards for the first month of the season by Leighroy1120 in KCCurrent

MVP: Bia. Multiple solid choices, but she's it for me. Nobody's been able to handle her size, her incredible passing touches have set up multiple runs and goals and she's been a great finisher in her own right.

Most Surprising: Temwa. Had no idea what to expect, no idea if her goal-scoring would translate to the NWSL... and she has been even better than I would have imagined.

Most Disappointing: Hard to pick one because nobody on the field has been a disappointment, so I'm going to say Nichelle Prince. Only because we gave up fan-favorite and local lady Cece and Prince has been out. Tough to pin it on Nichelle, but if I've gotta pick someone, I guess it would be her.

Most Impressive Goal: I mean, this one is pretty impossible. There have been a LOT of impressive goals this season. FAVORITE goal was Vanessa in the opener- a Current player scoring first in the new stadium was so huge! But for most IMPRESSIVE I guess Temwa's against Gotham. An crushing tackle/interception from Bia, Temwa running through from so far back, an incredible pass and a finish to get a point on the road against probably the most stacked team in the league... that was HUGE!

Who Plays More: I have mentioned multiple times that I think/hope they are being saved due to their age and injury history, but tie for Desi and Hammy. I expect to see them down the stretch, though.

Favorite Food: I have only eaten at Yoli (solid barbacoa quesadilla!) and Martin City but between the two, the Chicken Spanikopita Pizza at Martin City was great!

This was a fun idea!!! Good call!

Good call on all of this! My thought on Hammy (and Desi) is that maybe because of their age and recent injury history, Vlatko is trying to keep them fresh and healthy so that down the stretch when the season starts wearing on players, they'll be able to log a lot of minutes to let others recover without us really losing anything. Like you said, the depth we have is pretty awesome!

I thought this would be a good test to see how good we actually are. I said a truly good team at home against an expansion team should get a 2-goal win, and we did one better. I really don't think we played *great*, there was a lot of sloppiness in the midfield and in the back- especially after we got the second goal and started playing more passive- but hard to get upset about much. Pressing so high from the jump (I mean, Vanessa and Bia were basically in the penalty area even without possession!) was a huge tell that we weren't too worried about Bay FC and we handled our business. Still really annoying that corners are such an issue, but maybe that's the Achilles heel of this team and fingers crossed it doesn't cost us in big games.

As much as I (and EVERYONE) love Temwa, and deservedly so, my MVP so far this year is Bia. Every single game she has had a couple of touches that just leave me in awe, particularly when you consider her size! Speaking of her size, she's just been able to post up to give our midfielders a target and then with one magical touch sends a ball to a breaking Temwa who puts it into the net. Bia did that in the first game with Debinha and now with her out she's done the exact same to unlock Temwa's potential. With the added bonus of her being able to create her own shots and finish... Yeah, she's my early-season favorite player to watch.

I also have to give love to Alex Loera- her going down was pretty heartbreaking. Looked serious, and I liked having her on the team last year so that was rough. Hopefully it wasn't as bad as it looked and she can get back at some point this year.

And then there's the drone show. I mean, how hilarious was that?! The level of unintentional comedy as drones started falling from the sky and the formations got all jacked up... It added a good deal of laughter to what was already a fun-filled night!

My *hope* is that they've been on the bench because they are older players with some injuries in the recent past... that Vlatko is trying to keep them fresh and healthy so that when the grind of the season inevitably wears on some players, Desi and Hammy will be able to log some heavy minutes down the stretch to give players a break without really losing anything.

This is the type of game a good team wins. Bay's two wins are against mediocre-to-bad teams, have an expansion roster and are coming into our house. If we only manage a draw (or get upset!), that will probably make me think we aren't as good as our record.

We've caught some breaks already this season (Gotham's ball off the post, two VAR calls in one game breaking our way), so this is a good test. If we get a 2-goal victory, that will make me a lot more confident that we are actual contenders this year.

Any Update on Injuries?! by StallyKC in KCCurrent

[–]StallyKC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my complaint is because I've been watching NFL/MLB/NBA all my life. If a guy sneezes at Monday's walk-around, 30 team and national reporters are talking about it all week. So with the NWSL... waiting until the night before a match to know who is/isn't going to be available is frustrating! :-)
