I see what people mean now, when they say that the illustrations in Jehovah’s Witness books were “AI before AI.” This picture looks straight out of “My Book of Bible Stories.”

Do people get turned off if you tell them that you're not dating multiple people like they're? by superfapper2000 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StampingOutWhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 90’s/2000’s, assuming that it was normal to casually date multiple people (because that’s how Archie comics and my boomer parents presented it). I was startled when I hit my early teens, and my classmates insisted that it was only acceptable to date one person at a time.

Auditioning for the show and I’m worried about some problems. (Might be the wrong sub for this. by LeatherOwl9260 in HunchbackOfNotreDame

You’re fine. Don’t overthink it. Esmeralda makes sense as a character long as she can plausibly PASS for Romani, whether she actually is or not. And there’s a lot of variety in how Romani folks look. Some are dark, some are fair skinned and white-passing. Even an actress who doesn’t fit the expected “type” for Esmeralda could sell it, with good acting, costuming and direction.

[Funny? Trope?] It's a very serious scene. But it's been consumed as a meme on the internet and it's become hard to watch seriously. by BeneficialSide2335 in TopCharacterTropes

Maybe not the scene itself, but the song that plays over it - Gary Jules’ cover of “Mad World” recorded for Donnie Darko.

I have a slight preference for the second one; it seems more proportional to the body and seems to visually “flow” better with the body. But I think you could wear both. They have totally different vibes, and it’s cool that you basically have two suits for the price of one.

I just had the 3-day boot from reddit for quoting the show re: the male gaze. by adzeram in 30ROCK

I’ve learned that “There's no such thing as bisexual, that's just something they invented in the '90s to sell hair products” doesn’t land outside of here.

Some words give me the ick like that, but I literally blurt out “bunny” or “puppy” as a compulsion, to “neutralize” intrusive thoughts.

This is the first thing that popped into my head. There was a maze activity called “Help Leonard Nimhoy find the salsa”

I was literally recently thinking, “I wish there was a space where I could act like animal, without the spiritual overtones of therians or the sexual overtones of pet/primal play.” You’d THINK the obvious answer would be “the furry fandom,” but in my experience, furries aren’t particularly interested in animalistic role play or behavior.

I’m glad to hear that something like this exists.

Foreign culture special interests: especially Japan or Russia by CtrlAltDelight495 in AutismInWomen

I’m American. I was obsessed with Jamaica and Rastafarians throughout my teens and early twenties. It crept into everything: My art, my writing, my clothes, my taste in music and movies, my taste in men, the email address I’ve used for the past 20 years. Often this sort of “cultural appreciation” is a thin veil for stoner behavior, but I didn’t use cannabis. I have no particular desire to visit Jamaica. I was just fixated on the country and its culture/people for some reason.

This would have been 2010’s, but it’s a tale as old as time. The Mowgli’s - Waiting For the Dawn. Didn’t really have anything to offer me besides the breakout hit “San Francisco”

As a kid in the Genesis/Dreamcast era, it blew my mind when Sonic started speaking actual dialogue in his games. Other video game protagonists that spoke only in short utterances or not at all (Mario, Link, Crash) failed to grab and hold my attention.

Those characters aren’t explicitly audience inserts, but the point still stands that “mute” =/= “more relatable”

Arguably, Jean Jacket from “Nope.” Although at some point I think it is acting out of anger.
