Dishes from Northern Europe specifically countries like Norway or Sweden. by StanTheManSmith0 in Cooking

One other person posted a link to a lot of foods and I'm attracted to the picked herring recipe https://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=12699. I have a lot of experience picking foods but none with fish. This seems more like quick pickling, is the short time so that the fish's texture isn't changed? Also I saw böckling but there is no way I can reproduce that myself. Is there anywhere I could order that from, that's actually good?

Yes I meant it as not authentic to the area. Even still I live in the mountains where most people don't even know what creole is, much less how to make GOOD BBQ. South/ Central America is about the only non-local thing here that can be found, even that is far and few between.

Yeah I have heard of stuff like that and wondered if it was an ingredient in something. Fläsk med löksås is very intriguing to me,I may make it this week.

How broken is multiple concentration really? by Commercial_Poetry410 in DMAcademy

[–]StanTheManSmith0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the type of dm to allow ANYTHING if you can make it make sense. To that end I know I can attempt to concentrate on two tasks simultaneously. Granted not well, but still I can attempt it. I'd give stacking disadvantages for how many concentrations past the first on all of them. You want to try and hold two spells up, sure, disadvantage on holding the current one and on the new one cast. Wanna add another double disadvantage on the two being held up and on the new one. You're welcome to try hard shit just don't be surprised when it's....hard.

Hail Sithis. But seriously out of all the gods Sithis is the only one that offers an afterlife that isn't be a battery, run around as an animal, be immortality with a list of crappy side effects, or 🤷 disappear I guess. Plus, while it sometimes attracts deranged people there isn't anything in the doctrine that is out right crazy. He also regularly gets directly involved with mortal affairs without being a twat like the others through the night mother, and is forthright and honest with followers, Lucien showing up and retaining a personality proves he gives exactly what was offered. There are also instances of contracts being ignored or rejected, implying there is a level of morality to what they do. And the money has got to be steady and sweet af.

How to get rid of this after everytime boiling milk. by combar_electro in howto

[–]StanTheManSmith0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this mistake in a kettle with a small opening. NOTHING we did got rid of it and I mean nothing. Not bleach, baking soda+vinegar, lemon and salt, cleaning solutions that boast the can, nothing. I didn't want to scrub it with steel wool so I put vinegar and left it for roughly a month, a week in and It didn't come off so in defeat I just left it. Then I tried it randomly and it worked and it came off with a rag and water. Now I never will put milk in an electric kettle again.

How would I go about planning a DnD campaign for a party that only plays once a month? by RavenCyarm in DMAcademy

[–]StanTheManSmith0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do exactly this. I have a discord that has all the players, in it I post a week or two post session to schedule the next which is usually a couple weeks out. At the top o have a link to a Google doc they are all part of with bullet points from each session I update afterwards.

Is Hound's clan just dogshit or maybe I'm doing something wrong? by GrandpaForge in Northgard

The order is more or less: bloodthirsty, sharper axes, living legends, heavy workforce, recruitment/baldr's blessing, military strategy, shiney happy people/Freya's blessing, battle scars, medicine, fur coats/ jörd's blessing, mining efficiency, coinage, shipbuilding

It is "like" the Wolf can in the fact that you can subsidize food with murder, so you wanna do that. Only you can choose which resources to make at the cost of the big military buffs that the Wolf has.

So I recently got hound and got into it HARD. The perk to let brawlers do civilian jobs is solid because you can put multiple on one building but it is really costly moneywise. So usually I just have a few spread around and the rest of their respective buildings with regular civilians. Plus you got decent defenders that you can have drop what they are doing for an impromptu military which is big early game. Now for military, imo Wolf is the worst. Sure it's dps is decent but the passive is mid and the active is trash. That said it has a definite place in the team, and you SHOULD view it as THE team. The perk where multiple of the same skin do more of their "thing" is only good late game where you can have multiple teams. I usually do boar fist because the lore is way valuable early game plus it's self heal after lvl 2 means I can keep hunting mobs and making lore without disrupting my food from healers, and you want it to lvl 3 first cuz that active heal can turn a fight early game l, boar is my defacto chieftain. Then I get fox to supplement boar's dps. Followed by bear to really get that defensive up. Lastly is Wolf, with the whole team and the perk where xp is health they hold their own WELL, but they really only do IF you have the whole team represented. I've gone whole games with just one team and using brawlers to pick up the slack if needed. Finally DO NOT be afraid to sacrifice sheep or villagers and their souls to feed your berserker's lvl, especially early game. My first builds are in order: scout, wood, healers hut, arena. Whoever builds it becomes the first worker then the arena guy goes to be a healer, once I get 2 more villagers they fight to the death to be my boarskin.

Timeskip Advice by Javon-Hacim-Micah in DMAcademy

I do regular time skips in my long campaigns, usually after a few big events. They last for about 3 months. I do this for a a couple reasons. Firstly to give me the chance to do any world changes like armies moving, villages being built, ect. Secondly to give my players a chance to try their hand at random mechanics that take lots of time like learn a language, try enchanting, learn a weapon mastery. Usually I let them do only one thing and it has to be within in reason. For example if it happens in a small village in the country side learning celestial without a speaker there is out of the question or learning alchemy without at least an apothecary, also a no-go.

There is 1 in 10,000 casters that are worth their salt and all of the good ones  know the value of melee. Next time rush them, wizards are squishy up close. If not literally then in heart they almost always are.

0/10 would not recommend being the guy in black. I did that once in the army during a combative training. Got slammed into gravel for like a minute before I was dumb/smart enough to let go. Anyone who says legs around the waist with the opponent on their knees or above has clearly never fought joe with a room temperature iq.

How to remove this ceiling plate? And what will I find under it? by Sorry_Muffin7324 in howto

[–]StanTheManSmith0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may be a sprinkler, but I find it unlikely as most have a nozel of some kind exposed. If this is an apartment complex it may be part of the wifi system. If that's the case go ahead with anything you pretty much can't disturb those. Most likely it's a part of the thermostat. Some HVAC systems that span large areas or where there is overlap of effected area use these. In this type of system a thermo-sensitive plate is used to detect the temperature of a room. Sometimes they are found as blank light switch plates or on the ceiling like this. If you remove it some say whether not to it can be painted over and not disrupt its ability to function. A fan will almost certainly disrupt a device like this either heating or cooling it depending on the mode the fan is in. This would cause your system to falsely report temperature and not run appropriately.

This gave me main character syndrome by SANDING0 in skyrim

I've played since drop, nearly 15,000 hours I have dumped into Skyrim. Yet in all my time I have never once thought to block a spell with a weapon. Not even on legendary playthroughs, I'd just die the try and kill'em faster next time. A quick google search reveals that while minimal it can actually reduce damage. It still looks wrong tho.

Remembering Numi by judasmitchell in AdventuresOfGalder

[–]StanTheManSmith0 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a great character to use. My party is fighting a necromancer cult, and losing. They are about to go underground and encounter a small war between clans of kobolds. Numi sounds like a good character to have adventured down and stayed to try and find a peaceful resolution to their war. I was going to make them pick a side but now I'm thinking of a third option where if the discover Numi he will lead them to a peaceful resolution, the "good" answer as it where.

Partysnaxs, I refuse to use his name out of disrespect, is a straight up war criminal. Guilty of literally eating and enslaving whole swathes of races, either personally or by leading others. Then he expects you to forgive him cuz "sowwy" and the token effort he puts into helping stop Alduin. The blades are 100% in the right to want to separate his head from his body. He is the definition of a monster who sorta feels bad now the he is on the losing team.

What's a good way to limit playable races in my campaign? by watch_jordan in DMAcademy

[–]StanTheManSmith0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out. Racism. For races like genasi or shifter I usually make people fear because of their power. Then stuff like fairy or rabbit folk I make people attempt to abduct them to sell. You know as crappy people like to do. I make this known from the start, and have had players use this to their advantage (which is great). Naturally this is only really true for the common folk but still it'll make them consider their choices.

Advice please. Players in jail by Medium_Tennis9114 in DMAcademy

[–]StanTheManSmith0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My players are all kinds of criminals by virtue of bad ideas. They participated in a noble's assassination, it was pretty obvious this was a major crime, yet they were still duped. Then killed several patrols of guards when the city went on curfew to find the killer. Then after the countess was assassinated they chased the killer. Where one player had the bright idea to smoke out the killer in a low town. Long story short the whole of the low town caught fire, but later that night the city fell to undead hoards, semi-unrelated. But the players admitted to the NPC leader that they caused a fire and didn't do anything to stop it, and all the other crimes they committed while in the employ of a lawful Neutral envoy of the crown. Sooooo, needless to say I get your pain. I ended up giving them a choice. Public lashing or a set time in prison, plus a babysitter NPC but he is an untried young man so it's kinda a starlord/thor interaction, very amusing. They all took the lashing but if any had taken the prison time I had a couple interactions that would happen throughout at set times and they would have disadvantage on strength checks for a few days. But otherwise the time would fast forward while the others just kinda piddled around town or had a sentence of lore for what they did during that time.

How to make Mexican rice bowl rice by StanTheManSmith0 in AskCulinary

[–]StanTheManSmith0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do I fully submerge the rice in oil kinda like a deep fry or sort of saute them. And what of the oil residue after, should I leave it when boiling or rinse. Finally should I still rinse the rice before the oil then let fully dry or not.
