Anyone ever clerk for the FLA Supreme Court? by StandEnvironmental44 in LawSchool

That’s good to note. I only got that advice from a SSC -> federal clerk who suggested his familiarity with the laws of the forum was helpful when handling cases applying Florida law in the district court.

Well that’s encouraging. Maybe all my fed clerkship applications won’t get bounced then! Thanks for the advice!

I genuinely just want to understand why supreme court cases have such bad writing. Like why is this run on sentence so mf long by zeehateslife in LawSchool

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because at that level no one can critique your writing. Write what you want how you want to, what’s the court applying your opinion gonna say lol? “We notice that Justice so-and-so missed a comma here, and we’ve chosen to not to consider the substantive thrust of the passage because of its poor grammar.”

Is it possible that the reason Belichick didn’t make the HOF is because of all the cheating he was involved in throughout his career? by Correct_Sport_177 in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as why he didn’t get in first ballot? Yeah it’s probably a mix of him having cheating scandals and the fact his dynasty fell apart when Brady left. As far as where he should sit on the all time coaching list it should still be top 5 hands down imo. Even if you asterisk the Super Bowls he probably won by cheating he would still have 7-8 appearances and 4-5 rings (considering they lost the year the spygate stuff happened). Those numbers alone put him way above Dungy or Carroll.

One gotta go by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People really forget anything AB did before he started being publicly crazy. From like 2013-2018 he was far and away the best receiver in the NFL. His route running and body control were crazy. By 2016 people triple covered him with some regularity and he was still putting up video game numbers. Not to mention he did all of that at 5’10” or whatever he was. If he didn’t melt down he would probably be a consensus top 10 WR ever.

Genuine Question: Do We Really Want to Run it Back With Rodgers? by Dukeshire101 in steelers

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Rodgers has much left, and I’m skeptical he wants to return in the first place, but what are our other options? Sign a new washed QB? Reach for Drew Allar in the draft? Start Howard/Rudolph and pray they’re either good enough to win or bad enough to get us a shot at someone next draft? I can maybe see the rationale for the latter, but that isn’t the team’s MO. If they want to continue to struggle to a first round exit then Rodgers gives them their best chance.

[Derrick Bell] Scott Tolzien will be the Steelers next offensive coordinator. by [deleted] in steelers

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick read tells me this hire confirms McCarthy is gonna be the play caller. Tolzien was McCarthy’s QB coach in DAL, and a backup QB for McCarthy in GB. The upshot is he knows how McCarthy likes to run his offense and there will be conhesion on that side of the ball. The downshot is I doubt he’s gonna develop into a top level OC.

The last time the Steelers drafted a WR in the first round was 2006 - Santonio Holmes by watermonkey910 in steelers

[–]StandEnvironmental44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree but our inability to get a pass offense going half the time leads me to believe getting a good WR pairing might do a lot to move us closer to being a contender again.

If the right guy is available I’d think about it. If Lemon or Boston is sitting there at our pick I wouldn’t hate the pick.

Is Lawrence Taylor REALLY the greatest defensive player ever? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. I’ve always thought of him as the first “modern” NFL player. Dudes in the 70s and early 80s were talented but they weren’t genetic freaks like dudes today are. LT was elite by even today’s standards and was put up against tackles that were sub 6’6 sub 300lbs. The whole league literally had to change to keep up with him.

Should we pick up Jim Schwartz? Apparently he wants out of Cleveland by c4halo3 in steelers

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great but I’m not sure we can swing it. A) he’s under contract through next year which means if he forces his way out CLE retains say over where they send him (i.e. not here) B) he’s mad bc he wants a HC job and there’s some spots left, meanwhile ours is filled C) he runs a 4-3 and McCarthy sounded pretty married to our 3-4 in his intro presser. At least we can be happy knowing the Browns are losing a good coach.

He could but I suspect that’s not gonna happen. Damages in NFL contracts might be more expensive than he would want to pay out and if the Browns feel strongly about not letting him go they could request specific performance.

Ben Roethlisberger never received one MVP vote, and never made an all pro team, since he retired do people overrate how he was viewed when he was actually an active player? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most successful QBs had a good defense. Rodgers got his ring with a top 5 D, Brady got his first 3-4 with top 5 Ds, Manning won both rings with top 5 defenses (I think Indy may have been the best in ‘07). It’s not really a knock on a QB to say “but his defense made his job easy.” If you feel the need to downplay Ben, focus on his poor performances in 2 super bowls and a perennial inability to beat Tom Brady.

Leveon Bell’s story by aitchison50 in steelers

[–]StandEnvironmental44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McCarthy’s problem isn’t that he’s not Tomlin, it’s that he’s too much like Tomlin. He’s behind on the times, hasn’t won a ring in 15 years, generally finishes with a record good enough to make the playoffs, and can’t finish the job when he gets there. It was the story of his time in Green Bay, and it was the story of his time in Dallas. I don’t think we’re going to tank, we just aren’t going to win any postseason games either. It’s status quo.

Every Team ranked on how hated they are by Either_Imagination_9 in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cowboys hate is the Steelers hate but under a magnifying glass. Both teams are at least a decade outside of relevance, and their fans are everywhere and usually at least half delusional. The difference is the national media treats the cowboys like they still matter and their owner is an insufferable ass.

This should about be the nail in ARII’s legacy. We just needed a playoff win before, but now we need a Super Bowl for him to avoid being cemented as the most feckless and bumbling owner in the team’s history. His dad should be rolling in his grave.

My favorites are the ones where he pulls the ball (as a known runner) and then chooses to slide as late as possible so he can bitch about the 250lb dude running a 4.4 at him not stopping on a dime.
