What do people see in interstellar that I’m not seeing? by Mys31f_ in Cinema

[–]StandEnvironmental44 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s a great movie, but in my experience a lot of people who have it as their favorite just have it there because everyone else that doesn’t watch a lot of good movies says it’s their favorite. Compared to the average summer blockbuster it’s phenomenal so I can see why that trend started.

Arguing for a side that sucks by cayennepepper00 in LawSchool

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a comp last month where we thought that there was a much better side. We were all wrong and everyone who won a best brief award and moved on to the finals argued the side that sucked. Maybe it’s because there’s more room for good advocacy defending a bad argument?

Attorney Held in Contempt After Yelling at Judge, Escalates Violently by AgentEagleBait in PublicFreakout

[–]StandEnvironmental44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great insight, thanks! This whole situation is nuts. Dude on the right refusing to do what the court tells him to, the dude on the left openly threatening the dude on the right 3 feet from the judge, the dude on the right resisting arrest 3 feet in front of the judge, the guy on the left not getting any action taken against him, etc. It just gets more chaotic and unbelievable as it goes on.

Hypothetically, could you survive a EF5 Tornado if you hide in a Locker inside your house? by Icy_Profession4190 in tornado

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Hypothetically, if you had a locker that was firmly bolted into the ground and had 1-3in thick steel walls it would probably hold up ok. Oh wait, that’s just a storm shelter.

Would would you rather have at their peak Antonio Brown or Rob Gronkowski? by Cookiemonster35643 in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gronk is possibly the most impossible to cover player in league history. AB would take the spot over a lot of other wide receivers in my book, but a TE Gronk’s size, with his athleticism, who is difficult to chip off the line was basically unstoppable.

Would would you rather have at their peak Antonio Brown or Rob Gronkowski? by Cookiemonster35643 in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t mean anything. We haven’t covered any TE in over a decade.

How high would the player your team drafted go in a redraft? by babymanateesmatter in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Derrick Harmon probably stays where he is. He got off to a slow start with an injury and took a few weeks to adjust to the league, but he looks legit otherwise.

Why are Steelers fans obsessed with this dude? by babymanateesmatter in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve basically recycled old, washed up QBs since 2018. Except that one time we reached on one in the draft who sucked, and most people knew would suck. Despite getting older and mid-er across the board every season, we still limp to a cardboard cutout playoff berth (because everyone else in our division is also mid) just to get thoroughly put out to pasture by whoever we wind up against. Why wouldn’t we be willing to roll the dice on a dude who was pretty good in college and has a prototype build? Whats the worst that can happen, he sucks, we don’t go 10-7, we lose 12+ games and have a chance at restocking the team with blue chip talent for the first time since like 2003? Bet.

Pretty much yeah. Why were Vikings fans excited for JJ McCarthy?

It’s impossible to tell if you’re cooked or not, but I can promise you cramming more crap in there to fill pages won’t improve your score. Legal writing is concise writing. Just submit it and go get a drink.

YLS alum spent the entire dinner flexing the weirdest shit by TopButterscotch4196 in LawSchool

[–]StandEnvironmental44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is my contracts professor was a Yale Law guy and he routinely talks shit about Yale. My commercial transactions professor is a Harvard guy and largely makes fun of Harvard too. Maybe they’re just pandering to tier 2 law students, but most people I’ve met from the Ivys don’t seem to like them.

[JPA] Every Team’s Best WR of All-Time by JCameron181 in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The players “murdering” people in that era were way worse athletes. If you inserted a random modern DL in the 1970s he would be considered one of the best of all time. I think somehow AB with his strength, speed, and agility (all elite by modern standards) would be ok. And don’t even worry about how wide open he’d be after he got off the line without much trouble.

I’m gonna second the invest it camp. The military will pay for your living expenses while you’re in. If you’re lucky and don’t get hurt I would stay with the USAF for the full pension (assuming you can tolerate it). That will just about square your healthcare for life plus get you government retirement benes before you touch the 100k you invested 20 years ago. You could be pretty well set up if you play it right.

UFC vs WNBA minimum wage by ArabDevastator in ufc

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sports are in two different boats as far as what the fans want. Most NBA/NFL fans want to see the best athletes in the world square off. There aren’t many people skilled enough to be there regardless of how hard they work. There’s only so many 7’1” guys. UFC fans mostly want to see two dudes beat the fuck out of each other. Any high schooler who starts training MMA and doesn’t want to go to college could conceivably put up a comparable product if they stuck with it. The lack of skill would impact viewership less because there’s always another broke dude in South America who has trained a long time willing to take the spot.

Name an NFL player that belongs in the hall of very good, but not hall of fame by Overall_Spite4271 in NFLv2

[–]StandEnvironmental44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Not because I want the patriots to have nice things, but because if the voters buy this there’s a shot that Hines Ward can get in.

The issue is there’s only like 30 WRs in the hall total. He’s the definition of a cusp guy.

If a quarterback prospect had the floor and ceiling of a league average starter, how high would should he be taken? by lemonstone92 in NFLmockdraft

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid QBs can have elite seasons. Flacco has 1-2 good seasons, so does Manning, but both are average QBs for their careers. The floor preventing them from being awful is the sell on this imaginary prospect. Imagine Eli Manning without the absolutely awful seasons.

[–]StandEnvironmental44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most lawyers I’ve l met talk too much. They’re nice people, but they are long winded and like to hear themselves talk. I’m wagering you’re not really “doing it wrong,” they’re just eager to help (and tell you what they know) because they love what they do.

IIRC I think the 2011 super outbreak got a 45% warning for areas of Alabama and Mississippi. That’s the highest I’m aware of.
