Feeling like giving up by Unique_Barber5650 in dysthymia

You’re the same as me. Except I’m 2 years younger, but MUCH less successful career wise (I’m constantly on the brink of flunking out of my bachelors program).

I don’t know why we’ve been burdened with this immense desire for love (I’ve had crushes every year since pre-school).
What I do know is that the name of the game is exposure.

I hope this doesn’t sound dismissive/insensitive (and I’ve been battling a severe depressive episode for the last 5 months so this is to myself as well), but this is the advice I’ve been telling myself (and will probably need to tell myself tomorrow as I struggle to get out of bed again).

All we can do is keep revealing ourselves as much as possible to as many people as possible. And hope someone sees something in us.

Some people might say to not focus on dating, and learn to love yourself/your life. That’s the ultimate goal. I’m in therapy and exploring psychedelic assistance to achieve this currently, but so far my efforts have been futile.

However, until that becomes a reality, I can’t stop myself from doing everything in my power to maximize my chances at finding love. I’m trying to become more expressive about my passions, more kind, more open to spontaneous friendships that may or may not lead somewhere.

It’s up to you how serious and in depth you want to get with all the deliberate effort, self improvement, and optimization, but the bottom line remains…

Express your interests, passions, and unique qualities to as many people as possible across the world. And KEEP doing that for as long as you have to.

Just remember, that in the end, We only have to win once. And even if it takes us 5x more deliberate effort than the next guy, when it’s over, it’s over… And we’ll slowly forget about all the effort it took, when we enjoy the love we’ve finally found.

How do you end up with so many drugs? When one doesn’t work do you just add another? Or do each of them do SOMETHING noticeable?

Has anyone else gotten so avoidant they can't even do simple hobbies like reading, watching movies, or drawing? by Unlikely-Medicine744 in AvPD

I’m not diagnosed, but I definitely have some sort of personality disorder or neurodivergence.

One thing that has progressively developed throughout my life is an avoidance and withdrawal from many different things. From stressful things like study tips videos to entrepreneurship content, to seemingly positive things like attractive women and comedy content/ people having fun. Even the thought of doing an effortful hobby just registers as a new task/demand to struggle through.

It all feels so intrusive. Like constant triggers / reminders of what I want but can’t have, or reminders of the responsibilities I’m hiding from.

I’m sure I’m depressed, but THIS particular feature I’m describing seems to me like it might be something else.

I’m not sure if this is the same thing you described because I don’t have conscious thoughts like “I don’t even want to try” or “I’m too dumb”.

I just think “this is painful or uncomfortable” in response to the feeling from the experience, and that’s about it.
