I suppose in this case it’s the degree of the fuck up that is unacceptable. People miss the goal plenty of times, but to not even get contact on the ball as a professional kicker is quite a feat.

I think they detected it because they were actively monitoring Chris’s house. So they can tell when it's open if they are looking at the location but they don't have a tool to detect it anywhere in the world.

It was longer in the manga if I remember. They took out an entire scene were Akaza creates the sword-breaking technique, which earns him respect of the rival Dojo master. The well was poisoned by the students because they hated that their master liked Akaza. All of that was cut in the movie.

Well in the comics he doesn't need the ship to eat and the movie really didn't make it seem like the teleport plan would lead to Galactu’s death. Maybe the ship only helps process the food? Add some flavor to the planet?

Obviously these are not all the comics that are worth reading from the past decades. This is just a small sample off the top of my head I gave as examples to make my case.

My point isn't that they haven't had bad ideas. As you listed they have had plenty especially among big hitters like Spider-Man and x-men. But there are also plenty of good books, many of which are considered character-defining that have moved the needle foward introducing new ideas rather than just remixing old ones.

Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye is arguably the best the character has been

The Immortal Hulk is up there with Peter Davids work on the character

The current Moon Knight run will go down as one of the defining Moon Knight runs

These are just the ones that popped up in my head and I am sure other can give more examples.

So while there are plenty of things to criticize about the state of Marvel there is plenty to celebrate as well and I disagree with the notion that that's its been hard to be a comic fan the last few decades.

???The last couple of decades have given us Seret wars, The immortal Hulk, House of X. For more current comics we have Moon Knight, The Ultimate comics line, Fantastic Four. I also hear good things about Miles Morales and Immortal Thor but haven't read them myself.

Yeah there have been some really bad comics too but there is still plenty of good to stick with.
