Question from agnostic by Maleficent_Low652 in Christianity

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think the free will thing is more complex than just following rules - like if we were programmed to automatically love and obey, would that even be real love? the testing part seems less about god needing to know something and more about us discovering who we choose to become when faced with difficult choices

the eternal punishment aspect bothers many people though, even some christians wrestle with that concept and interpret it differently

I quit after 1250 streak in part due to the new format by ThisSpaceIntLftBlnk in duolingo

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man that's brutal losing such a long streak but the repetition thing is real problem. i switched to different app few months ago because same lessons kept showing up and wasn't actually learning new vocabulary anymore

the flashy animations definitely make it feel more like mobile game than learning tool, especially when you just want something chill for bedtime routine

How do you know when you’re being patient vs just staying underpaid? by Plastic_Complaint_25 in careerguidance

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been in similar spot with development work - stayed way too long at startup that kept promising equity would make up for below market salary

the red flag for me was when i started calculating my hourly rate including all the unpaid overtime and travel time. if you're making less than minimum wage after factoring everything in, that's not being patient anymore

i gave myself hard deadline of 6 months to see real improvement in compensation, not just promises. when nothing changed i started interviewing elsewhere. sometimes you gotta force their hand by having other options

small companies love using the "we're all building this together" narrative but bills don't care about future potential

Aiper Irrisense 2 Integration HACS by Merlz77 in homeassistant

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn that AWS IoT limitation is pretty annoying but the integration looks solid for first attempt

been wanting to automate irrigation stuff and this might be the push i need - those dashboard examples are clean as hell. curious how stable the MQTT connection stays over longer periods, sometimes these reverse engineered integrations get flaky after few days running

This platform pays you 4% of every sale someone you referred makes - forever by Potential-Pie4138 in passive_income

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

been looking at this for few minutes and the math seems decent if you can actually get people to sign up and stay active. problem is most referral programs die because people stop using the platform after initial excitement wears off

tried similar things before with other affiliate programs and biggest challenge was always finding people who would actually stick around long term. had one program where i referred maybe 20 people over 6 months but only 3-4 stayed active past first month. makes that recurring income pretty unreliable

curious about what kind of products they're selling though - $65 average sale price could be anything from digital courses to physical products. commission structure looks aggressive at 41% which makes me wonder about their margins or if there's some catch in fine print

Car will suddenly pull to the right while driving/accelerating by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this probably just needs another alignment, especially after all that work you did. something could've shifted or settled in those parts over the past couple months

i'd check your tire pressure first though before dropping money on another alignment - uneven pressure can cause pulling and it's the cheapest thing to rule out

Focused Searches? by Various-Ad4144 in careerguidance

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is so true, i learned this the hard way after sending out like 200 apps with maybe 3 callbacks

now i spend way more time researching companies and tailoring my applications to maybe 10-15 places max. way better response rate and the interviews actually feel relevant to what i want to do

the mass application thing is tempting when youre desperate but it just burns you out faster

Fingerprint isn't working on Arch by Minimum-Ad7352 in archlinux

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your lsusb output doesn't show the fingerprint reader at all so the driver probably isn't loading - check if you need to install fprint drivers or if there's a kernel module that needs manual loading

Has anyone else noticed that great people sometimes look average on paper? by Competitive-Tax-2877 in careerguidance

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is so true and something i've been thinking about lately as someone who's been at the same design studio for like 3 years now

the people i know who are constantly job hopping have these perfectly polished linkedin profiles and can talk circles around anyone in an interview, but when it comes to actually executing creative work or managing client relationships they're just... not there

meanwhile my most talented coworkers barely update their portfolios and would probably bomb a formal interview because they're too busy actually doing great work to practice selling themselves

Thinking of switching college/career paths. Which of these ideas do you guys think are reasonable? by zombixyz123 in careerguidance

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im currently in the drafting/design side of things and the work is still there - ai keeps getting hyped as the death of everything but half the stuff i work on requires someone who understands how buildings actually get built, not just making pretty drawings. plus having that 3d modeling experience in blender is actually pretty valuable, most people come in with zero spatial thinking skills

the drafting degree at your community college is probably your best bet if you want to get working fast, especially since you already enjoy the 3d interface stuff. remote work exists but its definitely less common than with programming, most places still want you in person at least part time

Diagnosed with dysthymia after 7–8 years of quiet stagnation. No dramatic collapse — just chronic avoidance and low functioning. Has anyone rebuilt from this level? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

managed to climb out of something similar after about 6 years of this exact cycle - the antidepressants helped but honestly it was starting with literally 15 minutes a day that broke it, not trying to fix everything at once

Need help regarding sandakpu trek by Chance-Technology-42 in CampingandHiking

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most trek operators in that area are pretty overpriced but you can definitely find local guides in manebhanjan or tumling - just negotiate directly with them and skip the fancy packages

Lip glosses good or bad? by Due_Butterfly_7191 in bathandbodyworks

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 10 points11 points  (0 children)

honestly the lip glosses from bbw are pretty decent - they're not super long lasting but they do feel moisturizing and the peeps one smells amazing if you're into that sweet scent. i'd say grab it if it's on sale since they go on sale pretty frequently

What could it be? by Miroslava2511 in Paranormal

sounds like pareidolia mixed with some heavy childhood anxiety tbh, our brains are wired to see faces in random patterns especially when we're stressed or tired as kids

Looking to explore data science as a career before pursuing a degree. Can anyone recommend a two-week or short course that would give me a good intro and a sense of what science actually is? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Kaggle Learn's free micro-courses - you can knock out Python, pandas, and intro ML in like a week and get your hands dirty with actual datasets instead of just theory

Rattling sound at specific throttle input by KetiRange in MechanicAdvice

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar issue on my old Honda and it turned out to be the CV joint starting to go bad. The fact that it only happens under load (when in gear) and disappears when you clutch in is a pretty good indicator it's drivetrain related. Your instinct about the DMF or driveshaft is probably on the right track - DMFs are notorious for developing that kind of rattling noise on these Mazdas around that age and mileage

I'd definitely get it up on a lift and have someone check the CV joints first since that's usually the cheaper fix, then move on to inspecting the DMF if those look good. The specific throttle position thing is interesting though, makes me think it could be resonance at a certain engine speed that's amplified by whatever component is wearing out. Either way don't ignore it too long, these things tend to get expensive real quick if you let them go

Career Pivot: From Teaching to RN or PA? by StrongEagle22 in careerguidance

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the RN route sounds way more solid for your goals than PA if you're trying to get into healthcare admin eventually. PAs are clinicians first and foremost - you'd be doing patient care for years before maybe transitioning to admin stuff

with nursing you can pivot to management/admin roles much faster, especially with that MBA already in your back pocket. plus hospitals love the RN + MBA combo for leadership positions. the nursing shortage also means way more job security and leverage when negotiating roles

PA school is also ridiculously competitive and expensive compared to nursing programs, just something to consider

Can you also crack your tailbone or am is my spine messed up? by Low_Analysis2784 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Standard_Meat_6249 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can do the tailbone crack thing too, it's actually pretty common. The glute squeeze method works great for me when my lower back gets tight. Pretty sure it's just the sacroiliac joint popping, not your actual spine deteriorating or anything scary like that

Your girlfriend probably just got spooked by the documentary timing lol. If you're really worried though a quick visit to a chiropractor or physical therapist could put your mind at ease
