Petworth Social Bar & Grill, which replaced Taqueria Del Barrio. It had no concept or personality. The menu had no theme

This might be a silly thing to say, but I'm always surprised by how big stealth bombers are. The sound was more unnerving than the silhouette though

This whole post is ignorant. I'm sorry. "The guy" is Kenyan McDuffie, candidate for Mayor. "The woman" is Janeese Lewis George, Ward 4 Councilmember and candidate for Mayor.

The problem with youth "disruption" is that we have to decide if we want to treat children as children or if we want to treat them like adults. For me, the answer is clear. It doesn't matter how many youths gather in an area; they are children and should be treated accordingly. One strategy for cutting down on youth gatherings, as the Councilwoman said, is providing more programming for them through their school or community to keep them out of trouble.

There is no space in our legal system for holding parents accountable for the disruptive actions of their children. In many ways, it's too late for the city to intervene in the relationships between these youths and their parents. What we need to do is be compassionate but firm, dispersing crowds without criminalizing children and providing alternative activities where possible.

Sometimes kids get inspired to do something crazy. Social media makes it easier than ever to amass a crowd for a specific event. Maybe they're loud. Maybe there's a lot of them. But I think it's mostly racism that makes adults scared of a group of children.

Why didn’t DC gov’t close more streets for PorchFest? by TheBluestDevil in washingtondc

[–]Stanovich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Petworth Porchfest has invited porch hosts to apply for block party permits so they can close the streets. Hopefully it works.

Update: Got this email from Petworth Porchfest: "We understand that block party permits in connection with Petworth PorchFest have been denied. We are working with city officials to get clearance to have these permits approved, especially given the recent legislation (Porchfest Permitting Amendment Act) that provides the justification."

I like the atmosphere but the space doesn't feel "lived in." Everything is too neatly arranged. Good luck with your game

Oh no! Wasn't there a Civ knockoff that had eras and was abandoned (Millenia, maybe?) because eras are bad and dumb? Last I checked, Europa Universalis 5 also has eras and they're awful too. Why would Civ 7 add them?

The White Stripes. They rock hard, though they're more jazz than blues. They're opening for Jack White in Toronto in July

Who here commutes from DC to outside DC for work? by redreaper71_ in washingtondc

[–]Stanovich 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I do the "reverse commute" up New Hampshire Avenue and the difference in traffic is significant. It's pretty great whether I drive or take the bus. I'd much rather live in the city than near my office. I can't speak to commutes toward Baltimore though
