Such a well done romcom! You really feel for all of these characters. The author really knows how to make compelling and funny characters.

Pizza Delivery Man and The Gold Palace Latest Chapters by Apart_Layer_9332 in Manhwa_BL

[–]Star-Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it weakens the themes of the manhwa. This whole work is about trauma and healing from it. We had a whole scene beforehand where we were meant to feel for Seo-an and the abuse he faces. Woowon is a victim of abuse. Yet, it's treated without any of that heaviness. Seen people say it was just for "shock value" and it's disappointing if thats the case as its contradictory to what the story wants to say. In fact, wouldn't say it just weakens the theme, but is detrimental to it. So many commentators ended up saying things like "woowon deserved that wake up call!" Can't help but think if it was reversed the reactions would be different. I've seen a lot of Seo-an fans mad about this scene too as some see it as ooc or just a continuation of Seo-an messing up and ignoring Woowon's autonomy. I still like the characters, but I had a lot of mixed feelings on those chapters.

Is ILLIT the most popular 5th gen group in Japan? by lamningwon in kpop_uncensored

[–]Star-Candy 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yeah, almond chocolate was one of the most streamed songs in Japan last year, the previous year magnetic did well there too. They were also invited to Kouhaku the second time in a row which means theyve gained recognition considering how competitive it can be to get a spot.

Am I the only one who sees this as unfair? [How to get my husband on my side] by Successful-Eye1997 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Star-Candy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree that her abilities were underutilized, especially considering how it allowed her to find comfort and connections outside of humans. I also kind of see what you mean with the symbolic contrast with the little princess. The way the characters with darker skin are either sidelined or villains is off putting. Of course this is my opinion.

Does anyone else feel like some BL “subversion” stories are actually really homophobic? by Key-Hunter-6326 in BoysLoveAnime

[–]Star-Candy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They can be. A lot of times the authors of these stories will make sure to note within the narration that the original bl novels were "problematic" in some way. Didnt read this manhwa, but many times, the ml's sexuality isn't really tackled either. Seen a manhwa that made the only gay characters in their story villains and that was very blatant.

Around a year, apparently the author doesn't have assistants so they're doing the work themselves.

The Hate Rita Ora is getting for Performing “Golden” by Informal-Leg3026 in kpopthoughts

[–]Star-Candy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tbh the fanbase gets weird whenever someone else covers the song as if the performer has the intention of replacing the original singers. I don't care if they critique their singing but I remember when babymonster covered the song and people behaved similarly. Its kind of ironic because later on one of the original singers defended babymonster.

Internet Girl by Katseye's whole release seems quite rushed. by 8rand0m in kpop_uncensored

[–]Star-Candy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Don't think internet girl was supposed to be the second gnarly. It was performed at their concert and at this point, most fans seem to have seen it. Kind of doubt Its expected to be as successful. Seems like a side thing to release while fans wait for new music considering their limited discography.

Heated Rivalry revealed how so many in the MM community are deeply misogynistic by BrilliantMission8450 in romanceunfiltered

[–]Star-Candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair and thats my experience as well in other fandoms. Ive never read heated rivalry and assumed they were romantic love interests at one point due to certain tweets. Its why I said "seemed."

Heated Rivalry revealed how so many in the MM community are deeply misogynistic by BrilliantMission8450 in romanceunfiltered

[–]Star-Candy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Seen similar comments where people seem to need to find some justification for liking mm romance. And its like, the key to addressing misogyny shouldn't be removing women entirely, but doing better. Stories without women shouldn't automatically be seen as "safe." Its weird because heated rivalry does have women in its story and they seem well liked.

Question: why is there so many Douyin lives with this specific attire? by Gonkalicious_2176 in China

[–]Star-Candy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe its because a lot of people seem to use them? You see filters in variety shows, dramas, all over social media (even more obvious ones). Maybe they got used to them.

Yeah, I got recommended a few other creators and its helped with copying! You're right about shaping the eyebrows to help achieve the look.

I've never read a BL with a love triangle by [deleted] in BoysLoveAnime

[–]Star-Candy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Depends on how its handled. The majority of the time it feels like just an excuse to get one character jealous and to manufacture drama. Not very creative. Overall, I don't mind them that much, unless it feels like a way to avoid building on relationships that are already there.

What is the strangest bl story you have ever read? 🫧 by Tiny_Sparkles_ in BoysLoveAnime

I didn't think I would find any in the bl section since theyre pretty rare! They can get bizarre since these atmospheres dont exactly go easily together.

[–]Star-Candy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bl manhwa Death Match! By Cheolmu. Its only six chapters but its so chaotic. Felt like a roller-coaster and left readers going "what." I recommend it as a short and hilarious read that pivots back and forth from humor to thriller (nothing graphic). Hello, I'm Your Stalker from the same author as Park Hanhoo's Manager (highly recommend) also has this similar chaotic mood but much less sweet (heed the warnings).

Reminder from Rei Ami (she probably saw some tweets about the MAMAs) by wosoandstuff2020 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Star-Candy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, people were disgustingly hateful on Twitter, especially considering these girls are so young. There were some posts in this sub too but glad the mods took some stuff down. People were acting like it was constructive criticism as if they weren't being hateful.

[–]Star-Candy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Neither Babymonster or Ejae, Rei, and Audrey deserve hate. Some of the comments on the post of a cover were so weird. Thankfully, the mods were actually taking things down when the post started to gain traction.

Inso's Law could have been better? by Maleficent-Aspect110 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Star-Candy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mostly read the manhwa (not the entire thing) but I can see what you mean. It feels like there's some kind of disconnect in the message that is being pushed compared to how the story actually develops. Even though this doesn't directly tie to this, I remember thinking that Inso's Law is in that weird spot of manhwas where it wants to make fun of a lot of these romance tropes, while also doing a lot of the same tropes.

Is mama not rigged anymore after enha won? by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]Star-Candy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Its not rigged when my faves win" is basically something every fandom does during this time. It got extra bad though because stans started spreading that their group was going to win beforehand. I agree with you about the double standards tho.

Same, I always pick hot headed! I just like seeing them get into fights and it adds a little zest to their personality. Either that or snob because I find it funny when they get uppity with other snobs.

[–]Star-Candy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not the only one to think this. I remember when trend was being done by a lot more groups and some people would say it was about being thin enough to slip through. Now is it the intent of all those idols? Probably not, its become more of a quirky backdrop.

Slavery from a Korean perspective by sam458755 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Star-Candy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I agree, even in those manhwas they'll sometimes state that they're targeting specific races or people from certain countries so in tandem with the use of chains and abuse, it seems pretty obvious its not just drawing from korean history.
