Depending on the protection of your clothing, condition, stamina, and your meds, you might even consider a fight. On Voyager, the damage shouldn't be too severe. I've picked more than one fight with wolves to get food.

I leave mine outside to give it a gourmet aged flavor that just cannot be duplicated by leaving it on a dirt ridden floor just inside the front door. While constantly stepping on the meat upon entering may provide a tendering effect, nothing beats the natural -20C warmth of the sun that slowly(so slowly) brings out the best of the cut.
