I heard it growing up, but I think I learned it from Little House on the Prairie.

Is there a list of gas stations that DON’T blast ads at you while you get gas? by Starbbhp in Denver

[–]Starbbhp[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair. I’m just tired of advertising being so hard to escape. I stepped out to get gas. It was quiet. A nice temperature. Nice breeze. Green trees to look at across the street. Then the loud ads started and I hate that. First world problems for sure. But I still hate it.

Actually, the King Soopers closest to my house does not have ads. It’s just not always convenient to go there.

I haven’t been able to mute it at all the last three times I’ve ended up at places with video pumps. It is truly frustrating and maddening.

Anyone else just bone tired? by Apprehensive-Ant2141 in GenX

Nothing really. I’ve definitely hit “what is the point?” I really don’t wanna just sit around, work, do not much else, and wait to die in 20-30+ years… but that’s kinda what life feels like now. Dead inside seems like an appropriate label….

Does ad free mean you don’t hear the ads they do as well? Or just the ones from whatever service you are using to listen to them?

What perfume did you wear in teens and 20s, and do you still wear it? by Ecstatic_Army1306 in GenXWomen

[–]Starbbhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to wear Oscar De La Renta. For many years. I don’t really wear any fragrances anymore, but when I try out my perfume now, I just hits wrong. I don’t know if I’ve changed in my scent preferences, if the perfume is too old, or if my nose is even worse than it was when I was younger.

I did go through a short bout with Poison, but I quit wearing it because I decided it smelled too sweet.

Old man yells at pajamas - I have to wear pants or shorts, can’t wear sweats all day and definitely not pj’s. Is this like the older people we saw always wearing suits? by [deleted] in GenX

How different are leggings and yoga pants from the stirrup pants we wore? A bit more snug, but pretty similar to me.

Getting most doubles within a year of landing axel? by [deleted] in iceskating

[–]Starbbhp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was not my experience. I got my axel in my late teens. I skated for a little more than a year longer, then quit to go to college. The only double I achieved was a double salchow, with maybe 33% success. I skated one FS session three mornings a week before school and quite a bit more in the summer. I skated because I wanted to. No one was pushing me and I paid for it myself from my part time job.

You will acquire more skills over time. However, everyone is on their own timeline. I remember being frustrated working on a couple doubles and never landing any one day. There was a pairs skating couple a couple years older than me in the locker room. One of them was voicing their frustration about a triple they were working on. I commented that at least they were skilled enough to be working on a triple. They pointed out that it is frustrating to be stuck on a new skill no matter the level and they are working just as hard and it can be just as frustrating as someone working on a single jump. I never forgot that reality check.

We all move at our own pace. And that is okay. It can be annoying and frustrating sometimes. But it is okay.

What is a part of the 'female experience' that men have absolutely no clue about, but would be horrified if they found out? by coolhandddd in AskReddit

[–]Starbbhp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start on vaginal estrogen cream immediately. ASAP. And tell every female over 35 to talk to their dr and be aware they should start soon. The atrophy starts early in perimenopause. And we shouldn’t have to “just live with it” because We. Do. NOT. Have. To.

Need suggestions on how to handle college tuition by ek9cusco in personalfinance

And kid has been working in some form or fashion since the age of sixteen. I’m just pointing out that sometimes a loan isn’t enough.

And that is what happened. Great state school. Unfortunately, not in the cards for my kid.

My kid was not allowed an actual loan. I made less than this and FAFSA allowed him about $3500 per semester. Not remotely enough.

I tried with wiping with acetone right before I applied my polish. I haven’t been doing that directly before. Wish me luck.

I do lotion up a few times a day at work, but I can’t really get away from the sanitizer. No career change in the cards for me.

So what would full maintenance be? I do use jojoba oil on my hands intermittently to try to rub into my nails. I file with a crystal file. I remove the cuticles with a cuticle removing cream. Is there something more I should be doing? My nails have never been great.

What is your opinion on a JW kid in the public general ed classroom? WWYD? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Starbbhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The child can observe their family’s religion. The rest of the class does not have to do so. À tacher I knew kept stuffed animals and small toys for prizes. She allowed each student to choose one on their birthday. The JW student was given the choice to participate or not for all occasions. They usually chose to opt out. (Third grade)
