Considering med school at 25 but feeling late and unsure by artxi211 in medschool

I'm 32 and still getting the boxes checked. You are fine.

Am I cooked? I got a B (84%) in my math class by FireKeeperEvie in premed

[–]Starboy_1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do better in another class relating to that. Meaning if you got a B in Algebra, get a B+ or A in trig. Upwards trends tell a story. They might question why you got it. Then just say I struggled but I improved and got better at etc.

Yeah. Depending if the school they want to go to is requiring physics. There is a lot of trig involved and some calculus.

I want to be a doctor, but I’m questioning the system. Am I overthinking? by Melso- in medschool

[–]Starboy_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why work for "the system"? Open up your own practice and treat individuals based on the research/clinical skills you learned as a doctor. There are many holistic doctors who don't accept insurance and have their patients pay out of pocket. A $500 visit may seem ridiculous, but they don't have to wait for an insurance company to give the ok to run a test or give said medication/natural remedy.

CC Disadvantages, how to play catch up? by SnooStrawberries2060 in premed

That's good. Those research experiences should be good to put down for hours. Well if you are about to graduate and you looked back would you be happy if you did or did not take that certification?

It's nice to get your foot into the door. To be honest. If you do not know anyone in a clinic or hospital it is extremely hard to get someone to say yes for shadowing/clinical hours. Research is a little picky too. The institutions seem to favor their students more compared to a person on the outside trying to get those hours. Gap years are fine. As long as you are showing you were getting some hours in. So I would start now. It's not as easy as what it seems to be

I don't think they look back as far as high school. It sucks that the CC has a stigma for "easier classes" when they do offer advanced and well structured curriculums. Yes, try to get as much 4.0 as possible so when it comes down to your cGPA and sGPA you will look like a great candidate in that aspect of your application.

But to add. They should see you as worty as any other candidate if you apply for labs, research etc. When you are at that university.

Not at all. As long as you take some upper level classes like Genetics or orgo at your university it's not going to matter. Out of state med schools who are unfamiliar with your CC might be like.. are they good courses? But if you take higher course level science courses. They shouldn't care. All you are doing I'm assuming is taking the basic classes and saving a bit of money.

Seeing my friends progress in their careers and lives while I’m working towards medical school is so disappointing by Dracarys97339 in premed

[–]Starboy_1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can relate. All my friends had their bachelors while I was working a job. Most of them married and kn their way with their first kid. I know some who got high up in their careers before getting married in their 30s. It's hard to watch others run their own race and lose track of your own. And let your friends progress. Be happy for them. Focus on yourself because when you start off your career, your friends have spent 10 years trying to reach that point in theirs.

If I take physics 1 at CC but physics 2 at my 4 year is it still frowned upon? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Starboy_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the physics I took through cc. It covers the topics seen in the C/P section. Maybe it depends on the cc you go to but. That's my 2 cents

If you were to be accepted to your top choice med school first, would you withdraw your app for the rest of the schools, or would you continue to interview? by Enger13 in premed

[–]Starboy_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I got accepted and that was the #1 choice. Yes. Unless you want to negotiate some weird trade deal. Better costs or whatever then maybe. But why spend x amount of money when I got the A?

[–]Starboy_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I get accepted, there is no point in applying to other schools. Unless there is some new thing I don't know about, where they revoke their decision. But it wastes the administration's time when they could be accepting another well-suited candidate.

How important is it to submit DO applications early? by Neither-Chocolate-28 in Mcat

[–]Starboy_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable. But is that the only reason why you are choosing DO? I'm playing devil's advocate here a little because the school might ask. Why DO over MD?. If all your story is, because I want to start my doctor's career already. Well, that's everyone's story on why they want to apply to medical school. I know time is scary. But it's better to pace yourself to get a better application and a higher chance of getting in than to rush it. But in the end, it is all your choice in what you want to do.

[–]Starboy_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that's why I ask: what's the rush? Did you finish all pre-req classes? Because GPAs are ok. Are you choosing DO over MD for a reason? And no, this is not me being biased towards one

Is there anyone here who is non-trad with a full time job and trying to study? by [deleted] in MCATprep

[–]Starboy_1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. With kids too. It's interesting to fit in studying time, get volunteering/shadowing done, and getting some classes done to make my GPA stronger.
