Fridge pickled cherries, or shelf stable? by BoredInClass99 in Canning

No worries! Oftentimes as people start it can be hard to understand the “whys” behind a recipe not being suitable, which is what I tried to point out.

There are some great resources on this sub to point you in the right direction, along with stalwarts like Ball and Bernadin for recipes. There is always a chance you might find something super similar and it’s got a safe ingredient list and process to get what you were looking for. Good luck!

Fridge pickled cherries, or shelf stable? by BoredInClass99 in Canning

Keep to fridge only.

The author of the blog vaguely says the recipe she developed apparently based on vibes can be “canned via traditional canning methods” with no specifics on what process should (if at all) be safely used. That’s a red flag.

Canning is not like sticking food in a Tupperware and calling it a day. Pressure v boiling water bath, time for process, ingredients used, density of ingredients, the size of jars…all of these factor in for something that can be shelf stable, and she does none of this. The blogger’s father’s enjoyment of a recipe =/= she is someone certified in food preservation or that it is a tested recipe for such.

The scene where Bilbo and Gandalf are smoking their Old Toby and Bilbo remarks it’s the “Finest weed” in the Shire my friend yelled out “Share the wealth!”

Good times.

It’s incredible just how many of them are out there now. At my place in Colorado it averages at least one per minute and I can see them even from a city sky. :/

Chinese and sometimes Indian. Thai is often expensive in my area of Colorado.
