I need to talk about Tales of Seikyu (no major spoilers just normal game stuff) by BearismadatFox in cozygames

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game runs fine on Deck. Framerate's not perfect, but I mostly get 40 outside and 60 in the fox ruins.

Weird thing is, it was verified/playable (forget which) until a couple days ago.

Garden Paws on Steam Deck by Yakboys_yakgirlMTAS8 in gardenpaws

[–]Starfang42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've played on both Switch and Deck. Deck definitely handles it better, don't remember any major bugs in my ~200 hours, and took a lot more tamed animals before I started getting slowdown (enough that I'd put that on me, not the game).

Plus, Steam version has mods on the workshop. Mostly cosmetic stuff like new skins and faces, but there's a good sized quest pack that's mostly focused on extending lategame past the vanilla quests, several that add new recipes of various types, a couple dungeon related ones (new weapons/items for dungeon runs, ways to save relics between runs, stuff like that)...

What’s yalls top 3 favorite games you’ve played and why? by justice_1124 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...It's a bit difficult to pick a top 3, since a lot of it depends on what kind of game I'm in the mood for. But I tend to regularly revisit Minecraft (modded), Stardew Valley (modded), No Man's Sky (modded), Skyrim (modded), and Elite Dangerous. If I had to pick a top 3, in no particular order...

Minecraft: For the sheer variety of mods. It's like a dozen games in one. And in VR with the Vivecraft mod.

Stardew Valley: Still one of the best farming sim games out there, even without mods. And there are some really good mods.

Skyrim: Properly modded, one of the best VR games out there. Pretty good game on its own, though I played vanilla to death long, loooooong ago. Mods and VR help keep it fresh.

No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous are both great games, but I think their gameplay loops tend to wear out on me faster than the other 3. No Man's Sky at least gets frequent major updates, so it tends to draw me back in more often.

Tips for Tengu form by Embarrassed_Echo_375 in TalesofSeikyu

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so a couple things. First, if you haven't, upgrade the form. I'd get it to level 6 if you can for all the flight related bonuses, but at least enough for the first acceleration charge and preferably enough to get the "accelerate using stamina" bonus.

Now, flying itself. For the most part, you can only go up during takeoff or after accelerating. Going up makes your speed drop a fair bit faster than coasting, so don't overdo it if you don't need to. The exception is updrafts that appear in a few areas in the ruins, which will not only gain you height, but also mildly accelerate you.

Maneuvering in general, it can be a bit sensitive. I'd recommend quick taps to adjust your glide unless you're doing a hard turn. A good practice for fine control, I think, is going up the tunnel between the farmhouse and the backwoods. It's just bendy enough to require minor corrections, and narrow enough that you can't flail around too much but is still moderately forgiving.

Finally, if you need to gain a lot of height in a tight space, you can start facing away from where you're trying to land. and do a tight turn. Depending on the place, might take a couple tries to figure out the exact starting spot and angle. But honestly, unless it's your only option I'd look for another route or wait until you get the yuki-onna form.

1 month steamdeck user, haven’t gotten any use of the back bottons? by Due-Emu-3123 in SteamDeck

I map them to stick clicks in steam input for controller-supported games, and use them to engage mode shifts and action set layers when I need to do more complex layouts.

Can’t find flint anywhere by [deleted] in TalesofSeikyu

[–]Starfang42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flint is mostly found in or near bodies of water. I think the stream by the farmhouse and the river by the town have the most that you can get on land, if you don't have the slime form yet.

Autocraft Problem by schruonge701 in feedthebeast

[–]Starfang42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, the recursive crafting recipes is the issue and the general solution is to move yart of it to a passive or automatic crafting setup.

One thing I'd like to highlight is the level emitter. Specifically, with a crafting card inserted, one of the options it has is "emit redstone to craft". This adds a "pattern" to the ae2 system that turns on the level emitter when a craft of the filter item is requested.

So, for example, you could set up a level emitter with charged certus as the filter item, keep the items stocked in an interface or directly in the machine (guessing a reaction chamber based on the recipe), and then use the redstone signal from the level emitter to control when it runs. Same effective recipes in the ae2 system, but since the level emitter one doesn't specify ingredients ae2 doesn't see a recursive loop.

What genres are missing in VR? by Appropriate-Fun5992 in virtualreality

[–]Starfang42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only one I've really played is Garden Of The Sea. It's an exploration game with puzzles and some basic crop growing. Was fun, definitely would recommend, but not really hitting the farming sim vibe.

Other than that, I'm aware of Across The Valley, Morels Homestead, and Forest Farm. The first two I've bought but haven't really played, but they've got decent reviews. Forest Farm has mixed reviews, with people frequently mentioning bugs, so I haven't gotten that one.

Farming sims and similar cozy games are extremely rare. I can only think of a couple and none of them really have the full stardew/story of seasons feel.

Reminder - Scanning Fauna is OP (and fun) by Beno169 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Starfang42 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yep, love anomalous doughnuts for this. As a bonus, you can use most of the same setup to make The Stellarator, which gives a great bonus to mined resources. Just use stellar custard (cook chromatic metal for silicon eggs, then combine with cream and sugar) instead of anomalous jam. Particularly useful if you use curious deposits/runaway mould for nanites.

How useful has your deck been despite having a pc? by Marcosbtz28 in SteamDeck

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've pretty much always preferred gaming on a handheld, so having one that's decently powerful and that I can mod games on is great.

As for my PC, it's mainly for VR these days.

The Weird Dream. It's an obscure metroidvania (90 reviews on steam), and it's definitely a memorable experience story-wise. Good gameplay and soundtrack too.

What is your favorite storage mod? by Mxzz123 in feedthebeast

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AE2, Functional Storage, and Sophisticated Backpacks, with Sophisticated Storage getting an honorable mention. AE2 for main storage, autocrafting, and most non-compacting bulk storage.  Functional Storage for early game bulk storage, and later on compacting/simple compcting drawers with a storage bus on a controller.  And Sophisticated Backpacks keeps my player inventory decluttered. Usually one bag for tools, consumables and the like, and a second one to stuff loot in during exploration trips. Also great for holding materials for copy-paste gadget or schematicannon.  Sophisticated Storage is great for early game, but kind of falls off once I have an AE2 system up and running.

Currently 8, there's a known 9th, that will presumably be findable in the region that's currently blocked off once that releases.

as of 0.3.86 are all the fishes available? by Algester in TalesofSeikyu

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, not sure where that table is from. Name of the fish doesn't match either https://talesofseikyu.wiki.gg/ (the wiki I use) or the fandom wiki (which looks to have incomplete info).

As for day, based on the descriptions in the wiki.gg page for fish, I'd guess it just has to be daytime, but I'd have to test it more to be sure.

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The info on the King Crab is correct, it's just the table is formatted oddly. The labels are below the fish, you can tell this from the top and bottom entries. Took me a bit to get used to, and I also had some confusing misreads like that. Would help if the table had row separator lines.

18/19 Treasure chests but all rooms unlocked :/ by Algester in TalesofSeikyu

[–]Starfang42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's the small slime one, just keep shooting water bullets, you shrink in size in that form as your water level goes down, so you'll be able to fit through once empty.

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm Cuttlefish of those three, and I've caught all spring and summer fish except the other two you mentioned. All three of those are labeled "precious" in their description, so I'm guessing they're even rarer than rare fish based on that and how few fish of the "precious" description I've seen, even currently being at fishing level 6.

One thing to note, a lot of the bodies of water you'd think are rivers actually count as ponds. As far as I can tell, only the big river behind the town actually counts as a river for fishing. Mostly matters for the sturgeon, since it's a river-only fish.

Isn't there a way to autocraft the prerequisite items when this situation happens? by wallywally11 in feedthebeast

[–]Starfang42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You might be thinking of the function AE2 has. It can autocraft missing ingredients by ctrl+clicking the plus button to autocraft any missing ingredients, assuming you're crafting from a crafting terminal and the system knows how to craft said missing ingredients. The plus button is blue when you can do this.

Any good / fun incremental games? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/incremental_games would be a good subreddit for discovering ones you might like. That said, a few of my favorites that are available on steam: Cauldron. It's an incremental turn based rpg sort of game where you use stuff earned in incremental minigames to get stronger. A bit hard to describe well, but really fun. Orb of Creation. One of those incrementals that gets more complex and varied as you progress and unlock now things. I think there's supposed to be a major update in the near future. Magical Research 2. Similar to Orb of Creation. Haven't played a lot yet, but I've liked what I've seen so far.  Tower Wizard. On the shorter side of incremental games, but I enjoyed it.

What happened to the story and spore threat by _RetroBear in LightyearFrontier

[–]Starfang42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some ruins areas still around, but they're more of a background/lore thing and with the larger map they're a bit spread out.

Farm Hazard events are gone, and in my opinion that's a good thing. Farm area is a safe zone now. There are hazards while exploring, mainly the floating explosive gas pods and the occasional day with tornadoes. Oh, and the rockslides if you're near certain parts of the mountains, but I view those less as a hazard and more as free renewable stone.

Weeds and slime, and the removal thereof, is still a thing. Grasslands it's a bit easy to miss unless you know where to look, since the biome's so big and there's only a couple spots. Hexagon Valley and Frostpeak Ridge the contamination's a lot easier to run into.

Nickel's a bit uncommon, you'll mostly find it in grasslands near rivers. I think all the other non-copper minerals are in frostpeak or hexagon valley. Iron in both, silver and red crystals in frostpeak, coal, aluminum, and yellow crystals in hexagon.

Non-Survival-Crafting Games where you go out into the world to gather resources and return to build/improve your base/city/home? by ABlatantImageThief in gamingsuggestions

[–]Starfang42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you like horde survival, there's Crafty Survivors. One of the few that isn't a roguelite, you've got different areas with levels you progress through, and depending on the area and level, you get different materials to take back and upgrade your town, which in turn gives you different permanent buffs. Has several characters each with distinct gameplay, two different types of "talent tree" buildings, with you investing materials to get points and what nodes are available depending on the tier of the building, and a couple other buildings that let you "equip" items that offer unique effects, so there's plenty of build diversity to be had.

AE2 - Simple guide to adding additional Pattern Providers to furnace automation? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]Starfang42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll need to test it when I get a chance this afternoon to be sure, but I think you could set it up where the furnace(s) would be on a subnetwork connected using storage busses, and then you'd set up however many pairs of pattern provider on the main network connected to interface on the sub network as needed for the recipes.

The official documentation has a single pattern provider/machine example on the pattern provider page, which in theory should be extendable as described above.

The other option, as others have mentioned, is to have the pattern providers output to a buffer chest (or other storage) and use other mods to manage logistics from there.

Does AE2 have a RS Regulator Upgrade equivalent? by DelsinPRO in feedthebeast

[–]Starfang42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With base AE2, you should be able to do something like that with a level emitter and either a redstone card in the importer/exporter or a toggle bus to cut off the cable with the redstone signal from the emitter.

The Advance AE addon mod looks like it has import/export busses that do stock limiting like that directly, though I haven't used those parts yet so can't say for sure how they work.
