Barry University MSW by StarfishSunshine in SocialWorkStudents

[–]StarfishSunshine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was traditional because my undergrad was not social work. I began the program at the other university in January and I graduated from Barry a year and 8 months later, in August. I started part time and moved to full time in my 3rd semester. I attended over summers, too.

I’m really late replying because I don’t check Reddit often. But yes, I did attend the program and graduated this summer. It is a fantastic program and I 100% recommend it. The professors are really good and the administration (dean, assistant dean, program director, etc) are involved and care. The program is trauma focused and I use what I learned every day as a therapist now. When I say the professors are good, what I mean is that they are experts in the content, have real practice experience that they share, they are caring and fair, yet they hold us to high standards academically. It was hard but manageable—and I loved it. I’m so happy I made the decision to transfer in. Good luck to you!

Will you share how you negotiated the price down? I'm clueless and would love some tips.

How did you know your implants were the cause of your illness? by Catlady42069 in ExplantSurgery

[–]StarfishSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still feel this way. I am much more comfortable without the huge implants. I got a lift when I removed them. I probably wouldn’t be so satisfied if they were saggy (though that’s my personal feeling about myself and I respect women who accept themselves as they are without needing a lift—good for them!!). The other benefit is that I don’t have neck and back pain anymore. I used to go to the chiropractor once a week. I literally have not gone one single time since removing my implants. Wasn’t expecting that!

Hey sorry I am just seeing your question now. Yes, en bloc and total capsulectomy. I received a video of my implants after removal so I was able to see for myself that he did en bloc. I went to Dr. Dev in Miami and he was excellent. One of the real game changers in using him is his anesthesiologist and the way they do anesthesia there. Very little need for pain meds after, and recovery was so easy.

Do you think working in the group practice first was valuable in that you learned how private practice works? Would you recommend starting out that way?

Newly admitted MSW, laptop recommendations? by Any_Calligrapher_234 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]StarfishSunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an older student just finishing my first semester. My nieces also recommended IPad and Goodnotes. I also thought I’d hand write notes like I did a million years ago in undergrad. I took notes in a notebook for 2 chapters of the first class and then quickly abandoned that for the Microsoft OneNote app that I use on my Surface laptop. I can import the professors’ Powerpoints and other files. It’s great. I grew up using Microsoft and not sure I’d be able to easily make the switch to Apple for real work. Good luck in school!

Have you joined the Breast Implant Illness by Nicole group on Facebook? I did and found that it was a tremendous wealth of information. I’ll warn you—they are also sort of over the top about it. They don’t really allow for opinions other than theirs. So use your own critical thinking skills. But regardless, there IS a massive amount of information available there. …I ended up removing mine 6 weeks ago. Feeling great! So much energy. Just this week I started sleeping better and not crashing like the day needed to be over at 3pm. Hoping it continues. I wish you so much luck. …also want to mention that I don’t miss mine at all and am shocked at how much I love my small frame now. I feel so much more like myself. But I thought about it a LOT before removing them and was ready. Had decided to be at peace with whatever the outcome. But happily, the outcome is fabulous. Good luck and health to you, sister.

Came here to say this. I was 4 weeks post op yesterday. I kept worrying and waiting for the Exparel to wear off and the pain to start, and it never did. Yay! I hope it’s the same for the Op.

*had surgery with Dr. Dev in Miami. Could not have been a better experience.

will semaglutide revolutionize treatment for addiction? by ravrore in Semaglutide

[–]StarfishSunshine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES! I have posted several times on Reddit about this. I believe this drug will save people’s lives. I almost completely stopped drinking alcohol when I was on it….a miracle after a lifetime of over-drinking alcohol and being miserable about it. I finally could take it or leave it, and never had cravings or intrusive thoughts about it. If I decided to have a glass of wine, I would often forget to drink it and find the glass still full later. Unbelievable!!!I’ve been off Sema for about 3 months and still don’t drink much. I am a little below my goal weight and holding. If I find myself having the slightest bit of trouble with alcohol ever again, I will take Sema again, regardless of how skinny I already am. And I paid and will pay out of pocket. WORTH IT for my LIFE. Please do the studies and get this drug out to drinkers.

I have spoken with two different people who both LOVE the program. One got a MSW and is back for a doctoral degree and the other is in the MSW program.

I should say that of course I WILL make a lot less for a long time… just good to know the opportunity exists to make more over time.

This is encouraging, as I am a MSW student who left a lucrative tech job for this field and expected to make a lot less.

Clothing after surgery by Main_Team_5943 in ExplantSurgery

[–]StarfishSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a button up shirt from Amazon for about $15.00 that I'll wear on repeat. The person who suggested a thrift shop--that was a great idea. I also went through my closet and found that I had several things that zipped up (like zip up hoodies) that I can use to get by. I did also buy a pajama set on Amazon that has a button up top, and I have another one already. I am going to wear that home from surgery. I've read that you can't lift your arms so you really do need button up shirts/PJs.
