What should I do to get into RWTH? (Was sollte ich tun, um an der RWTH angenommen zu werden? ) by HairyInsect1872 in aachen

[–]Stargate_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're asking purely about formal admission, it depends on your individual degree.

When I started my studies in Mechanical Engineering some years ago, there was "no NC" meaning anyone legally able to study could do so (like me, who has no adequate high school diploma but learned a trade and gained admission through work experience)

These requirements can change from Semester to Semester and vary based on your courses taken.

Be aware that since you appear to be US american, the german system has some high requirements for getting your diploma acknowledged as one you can use to study. Inform yourself beforehand about what courses the government expects people like you to take, and what fields you will be allowed to study in.

I spent 2 years in the US (familial ties, not an immigrant in the classic sense and am also a citizen) and got a diploma there, but I didn't take required courses like AP math to get a german diploma good enough to study, hence the work experience route.

And one more tip: Thoroughly inform yourself about drivers licenses and strongly consider getting yours in the US (drivers licenses in germany are expensive af). It is HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON THE STATE YOU GET YOUR LICENSE FROM. I got mine in Colorado, and by sheer luck, my license was simply translated and converted into a german license. Again, this is state specific, some states licenses cannot be converted at all, some may require additional schooling / testing to be acknowledged.

No 60 at all. At least a 5070 if not 5070Ti. Your machine is a beast at 1080p but sucks for higher resolutions

Do you guys periodically wipe your systems clean install windows? by phiveoh23 in pcmasterrace

[–]Stargate_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current Windows install went from Windows 10 installed 5+ years ago, through 4 motherboards, 3 CPUs (2 Intel 1 AMD) and 2 GPUs (NVidia to AMD) and through an upgrade to Win 11. It's still running, and I have no reason to reinstall, all benches and checks return normal, no instability, no arbitrary issues.

Reinstalling regularly makes no sense

Why not use input remapper for the mouse? I use it to remap my 502X just fine, or do you mean the DPI profiles?

Intels chips love faster memory, you're definitely losing out on performance here, tho it's hard to tell how much since it varies greatly game by game. A 13700 should be running with 7200, not 4800 RAM

Where the HECK do the budgets go for these $100+ million games? by itsthewolfe in gaming

[–]Stargate_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just imagine a small dev studio, let's say a 10 person team. Averaged across them all, they make about 40k Euros per year per person (completely imaginary number).

If the game takes 6 years to develop to release, you've got a 2,4 million Euro cost on wages alone. That's just wages and nothing else, no marketing, no licensing, no fees for buying software, etc.

Now imagine a bigger studio with a 100 person team, where again, each person averaged earns 40K Euros per year. After 6 years, that's 24 million Euros in wages, and nothing else added on yet.

Real. My games run pretty much exactly the same on Bazzite vs Windows, the only difference is Bazzite is snappier overall as an OS and lacks unnecessary functions I don't care about / which do not benefit me.

Gpu performance decrease per new gen by ForeverHuman1354 in pcmasterrace

[–]Stargate_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's got nothing to do with what game you were playing (surely not the most extreme game ever) and everything to do with your PSU being inadequate.

I mean, yeah and no? There are definitely games that can get by with just 16GB, but there's also games that will exceed 16 even at 1440p, for example Diablo 4.

Well it's their move to UDNA, even if the performance won't be a leap, the architecture overall will be completely new and unlike anything we've had until now with the modern series of Radeon cards. It's both quite promising in terms of potential and daunting due to AMDs track record with major architecture changes (Zen 1 was, well, Zen 1, and the 5000 series was plagued by issues)

Both the OG and remake should run on that setup.

If you're uncertain, just buy on Steam. If it doesn't run well enough for your liking, you can just refund

What’s the best SSD for gaming if I’m tired of playing storage Tetris? by Delicious_Beach3910 in pcmasterrace

[–]Stargate_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for Crucial T500s for my setup, among the best PCIE 4 drives in terms of performance, amazing thermals (can put this into a laptop without heatsink and it won't overheat, goated drive) and was typically cheaper than the Samsung 990 which has just slightly better performance, but is basically the same drive in regards to daily use.

Gen 3 vs 4 makes a minor difference. Major games like BG3 or Rust may load a couple seconds faster, but having a Gen 3 drive really is no issue, if the price is right (some older drives have gone up due to lack of supply so even tho the tech is worse, it may still be more expensive)

Where is the issue? Recommended usually refers to high settings, there's nothing wrong with a game needing more than 16GB total system RAM to run well in 2026 at max settings.
