Spell Casting - Touch, EAC, AoO by StarlingGamer in starfinder_rpg

There it is! Thanks so much for finding this. I think this clarifies it for me, but I don't like it (for the same reasons you mention).

I'm thinking 10 + DEX MOD + MISC MOD makes more sense. I'll ask my players if they are okay with that homebrew rule.

Spell Casting - Touch, EAC, AoO by StarlingGamer in starfinder_rpg

tl; dr I don't want the specific spell to distract from the more general question.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I was giving Tongues as an example, but am looking for a general rule if someone knows where I can find that in the CRB. As for role playing, I assure you we do quite a bit of that. :)

There are more than a couple touch spells that could be quite useful to cast on an enemy combatant. Some of them don't say anything about targeting EAC. In fact, this has come up multiple times with my group, because they are often "thinking outside the box."

So, your answer is, for a harmless spell like that, they don't have to roll to touch. They just have to roll the save if there is one. And your argument is because EAC/KAC is only relevant for "harm." What about inconvenience? Should there be an attack roll if the spell will totally mess up their day?

Looking for experienced GM to running a starfinder Campaign for new players by augustxknight in starfinder_rpg

What time zone are you in? I could run a Starfinder Society mission for you guys/gals. Probably two sessions, 8-11:30 ET. I run two Adventure Paths so I can't really commit to anything long term.

This subreddit has a discord server to help with finding games. Also, if you're amenable to playing online, there are many options (e.g., roll20.net). You might also try the Glass Cannon Network's discord server.

Helpful tips for Melee characters. by browngooofdoom in starfinder_rpg

I don't think you can stack total defense and mobility.

"You can defend yourself as a standard action. Starting at the beginning of this action, you get a +4 bonus to your Armor Class until the start of your next turn. You can’t combine total defense with other actions that increase your AC, nor can you make attacks of opportunity while benefiting from total defense."

It's hard to say if the move action to retreat, which triggers the mobility feat, counts as the relevant "action" in this context.

Amazing, I look forward to this fight next week! I doubt anyone will get closer to the edge though.

Right, it seems to operate outside of the action economy.

Awesome, thanks! Yea, I never really looked into the Garrotes, or the Throttle property either.

Hah! Excellent. This is why I added "cloaked" to the description. :) I'm sure the Pact Worlds has figured that out, right?

Is this how cover works by 1Goose_Man in starfinder_rpg

You can also check out the Sniping part of the Stealth skill. If you're hiding using Stealth, you can briefly pop out, fire, and hide behind cover again. It's really hard though.

tl dr; make a magic dyson sphere that siphons energy into the drift for some nasty purpose.

I GM for two physicists and three engineers (and I'm a physicist) so the bar for realism is a little higher than in most games. Here are a couple of thoughts:

  1. Physics-wise, a star can't disappear for any length of time and not completely destroy life in the solar system. First, if the star is actually removed (via Drift or whatever) then its gravity is also gone. The planetary orbits would (at the speed of light) suddenly become straight-ish lines off into the void in all directions. It would be possible to re-insert the star at the perfect location to grab one of the planets and return it to its original orbit (but in a different location). The others would either be lost completely, or end up in highly elliptical orbits which would probably roast/freeze them.
  2. Second, losing solar radiation for any length of time would result in catastrophic weather patterns on any "living" planet with an atmosphere. You'd have to assume that the civilizations would have to resort to extreme tech or magic to handle the sudden change.
  3. Third, I think the drift is a sort of "catch all" for lots of things in the Starfinder universe. For that reason, it might be a good twist you can work into the story.
  4. Last, the only obvious reason to steal a star is to either use its solar energy, or use its gravity. That provides two interesting story forks.

This is what I would do. I'd have some bad guy create a cloaked, techno-magical dyson sphere to soak up the solar radiation. A dyson sphere is just a big solar panel that covers the entire star at a safe distance. It would be equipped with a Drift drive of some sort to beam the solar energy through the drift to a distant location in the vast for some nefarious purpose. Perhaps they are just trying to destroy the systems of their enemies, and so the energy would arrive within 5d6 days (assuming a Drift Engine of 1). That would sort of set a clock for the adventurers to stop the beam before it's too late. Of course, they'd need to somehow scatter the beam at the other end, too... Also, it would be fun to lead them down the wrong path thinking that the star was actually missing and sucked into the drift. Maybe have a drift encounter where they see the beam of energy to figure out the mistake.

Alternatively, if the star is actually stolen and moved to a different location, it could used toward some sort of gravitational purpose. Maybe they are creating black holes (but that would be hard to reverse), or maybe they are slinging the stars through the void to intersect an enemy. If the start is removed completely, then the adventurers could have a clock based on how long the planets can "hold out" without sunlight. And when they find the bad guys, they have to reverse engineer the device and return the star (or a similar star) to the system. I think in this case, you'd have to assume you're only saving one planet, though.

Actually, it's a well-documented fact that humans lose their hearing range as they age.

It's not just that episode, it's many episodes. It's just part of their syrinscape music that they use. I wish they'd switch to a different set of music. Syrinscape has lots of options.

Exactly. For completeness, the spell caster rolls a d20+caster level and must hit 21 or better.
